I'm a very cheap gamer who never has money for anything, since college is sucking all of it. With that in mind, what are some decent gaming headphones? I can't stand using my iphone (that's the only apple related product I have) headphones anymore...

If you're looking for decent sounding inexpensive headphones, the Sennheiser HD201 ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0007XJSQC) gives you bang for your 25 bucks.

I recall one reviewer being "shocked" that he could now hear the footsteps of other players coming up behind him in a game for the first time.

If you're willing to wait a bit longer, woot.com/tech tends to do a headphone sale and you can get a set of turtle beach x12s for 30ish? Good sound quality and decent mic.

if you are looking for a cheap gaming headphone then it will be possible that you can get like some philips, sennheiser or even the headphone for sony psp/vita. but for me, you can just save the money first, then buy a good one when you already have enough money.

I'm with Dstrakele. Go for Sennheiser.

Can't vouch for the 201s but I've been using the (similarly priced) 202s for years. Absolutely worth every penny. I wear them for hours with no probs.

Another thing to keep in mind is that most headphones sound bad out of the box. They need their burn-in time. They say the same thing about speakers, but I've never really heard a difference. With headphones I have heard a difference over time. I can't remember EVER being impressed with the sound of a brand new pair of headphones.

Edit: 2 things I'd like to add:
a) Apple's headphones are notoriously bad-sounding, so anything else you get will be an upgrade:) Can't vouch for the new ones (don't know if the changed anything) but the pair I had a few years ago deserved all the ridicule they could get.
b)Try to get a pair of oval shaped closed-back headphones. Round ones look cute when you are out and about but most are uncomfortable and because of the shape sometimes just don't sound as good. In other words if you aren't going for the 201s or 202s IMHO at least try to get something that "looks" similar to them.

The Sennheiser HD 202 go for $25.98 on amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-202-Professional-Headphones/dp/B003LPTAYI/

The Sennheiser HD 201 go for $24.44
http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD201-Lightweight-Over-Ear-Headphones/dp/B0007XJSQC/

Both of the above headphones do NOT have a mic. Are you looking for a gaming headset with a built-in microphone? Also I had a closer look at the 201s and it looks like they swivel. Personally not a fan for two reasons:
a) one more thing to break
b) one more thing to make extra noise
But again I've never tested them, so maybe someone who has can jump in.

The ones Tomislav suggests DO have a built-in mic and go for $38.24
