Hello,
I just had a really simple question for someone more knowledgeable on the situation. So I have my Nvidia 660m overclocked to 1085 mhz. Works great in game, and the games I play never put it above 70c ever! Well I noticed that when I ran a Furmark, that the GPU is at 1085 mhz (Bottlenecking 950mhz). Is this bad? What does this mean? Can I stop this?

Thanks in advance!

Furmark really stresses your video card, so it may be throttling due to the temperatures that it is experiencing. Check your temps and see if they are the same. Also, Furmark may be messing with stuff, especially if the default clocks are 950 MHz.

The default boost clock of the GPU is 950MHz. The maximum allowed OC is +135MHz so 950 + 135 = 1085, so no problem :)
Maybe Furmark is made such that it discards any OC and tests the hardware with default factory specs even if someone has OC-ed. It depends on how the program is developed.

If you look at FPS in any game with and without OC and if you see increase of FPS with OC, its working OK.

Thank you for the input. Yes I think I meant Throttling not Bottlenecking...lol. Also, when I went from 950mhz to 1085mhz I gained 10 FPS in Diablo 3. Temps didn't change at all. So it must be working. I am only using Asus GPU Tweak.

At 70c you will not be prone to Throttling. You want to make sure that Asus GPU tweak is running because when you close the Application the overclock will automatically be removed. You can check your GPU speeds with a utility like GPU Z to make sure that it is actually running at the speeds you set it at.

Can you run NvidiaInspector while running Furmark? I am not sure if Furmark actually throttles to 950mhz when you have set Asus GPU Tweak to overclock to 1085mhz. What does NvidiaInspector say while running Furmark?

Also as requested, if you can run latest 3DMark (2013) overclocked and post your scores that would be great.

I will do that now.

Here are my 3D Mark 2013 Results.

Stock Results:
18040

Overclocked Results:
18041

First time running this test so not sure how good/bad these really are.

Right where yours should be. Overclocking got you a 12% gain in firestrike. Numbers look right on where they should be

Good to know. I am pretty sure my G55 has a good paste job to. On idle I am at around CPU 40c GPU 35c. 4 hours of League of Legends or Diablo 3 never bring me above 70c ever. I say this because when I had my Asus G73sw, after 4 or 5 hours of League of Legends (which is by far not very demanding) my temps would be around CPU 90c GPU 85c. They would never go over this ever though. Either I had a crappy paste job, or they have come a long way on these things.

The 73 used the 740qm that ran like a oven. The new chips are pretty cool.

Yup... Same scores as me :) ...Basically Nvidia Kepler makes a massive difference. That's why 2013 Nvidia is back in action, with Tesla on high-end, Kepler on mid-end and Tegra 3/4 for mobile.

I think the thermal paste job makes some difference but most of the "new" difference is because of Kepler being much more power efficient than Fermi. Fermi really took Nvidia out of the performance-per-watt game but Kepler's brought them back.
