This is taken from the ASUS's facebook site under the PAX East events they will be hosting.

You will be playing on a G55 with 670M :D

Even tho I had hoped for a bit more, 670M will do!

Hopefully they will announce a release date soon, before I end up buying a MSI instead

In the booth we will be gaming on:
2 Maingear Powered by ASUS systems (https://www.maingear.com/poweredbyasus/)
GeForce GTX 680
ROG G55
GTX670M
ROG G46
GTX660M

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I just bought my G55 like 2 months ago! If they come out with a G55 with the 670m... :(

I guess the few games I play run great on here with max settings, so I would survive!

Well, I bought it two weeks ago....

But considering that I have no issues with performance at all (I don't think I've even *begun* to push it yet) and I likely got it a bit cheaper than a model with 670m, I'll survive, too. ;) As long as there is no ~CRITICAL SYSTEM IMPROVEMENT~ we're going to miss out, on, of course.

I am with you there. You make a good point about the price. I picked mine up for $1200.00. I am sure if they make a 670m model, it will be more than that because they will still have to sell out all of the 660m models.

Personally, I have been looking at this machine for nearly a year now.

Going from 660M to 670M will increase my avarage fps in bf3 without having to reduce that many settings.

They haven't confirmed it yet tho.. But I'm sure I found a leak there :D

But ye, the current G55 has gone down in price and I have been tempted to buy it!

Seems like something Asus would do. Use the old out of date fermi based GTX 670m when they should be using the GTX 670mx that's much faster.

I have to agree.. 670mx would have been a better solution.. But I guess they don't want it to compete with the 75vx ?

Never the less, it's still better than 660m and about 15% increase in performance.

People who know how to OC might not agree with me :)

Until they announce it official i would just chalk this up as internet BS. More things point to this will not happen then to it will.

That would put another mobo revision for the G55's. Perhaps one with thunderbolt.

The GTX 670m was only made to sell off the stock pile of GTX 570m's. Its a GTX 570m just clocked higher. Nvidia is not making them that's why all of a sudden the kepler MX's show up. No sense in releasing something that theirs no parts for as they have not been in production for a while.

The G55 has ok cooling but it wont handle a fermi based card well at all. .

They might be planning to put the GTX 670mx in the G55 but really i don't see that happening. Its not about the cost its the fact it would put them on the same field as the NP9130 as its highest optioned gpu for that system and Asus has been staying in the lower to mid end of the gpu's for the systems. I would consider this option if they went with the GTX 675MX in the G75's but since they went with the GTX 670MX im gonna stick with them only putting the GTX 660m in the G55's until asus announces the official specs in a press release.

Unless it's a typo, which I highly doubt, the G55 will get a 670m :)

So much fail. Why put a hotter and older Fermi card if they can put a 670mx.

I agree with you.. But 17.3' is too big for me, so I guess i'll have to settle with a 670m :/

17.3" fullHD for full multimedia and gaming experience then grab yourself a 3-4lb 12.5-13" on the go laptop like a thinkpad x230.

I don't like having everything in a wannabe trying to be a portable laptop but not really and trying to be a desktop replacement but not really because of the small screen and low resolution.

I absolutely agree, this would be an idiotic move and it would also impact battery life

If I had the Money to do so, I would prob buy a desktop instead :)
But really like the size and design of G55..

Even tho I'm starting to consider some of the MSI models.. GT60 0ne with 680m :D YES PLEASE!

I would imagine that's a typo.

Or it's possible ASUS made G55 prototypes using the 670m and those are the only free roaming 'demo' units they have left.

ASUS North America no it has a 670m in it

From the facebook site.

So it's not a prototype - It's the actual G55 they are going to release.

Ah, I forgot that 670m's a Fermi and it's 670mx that's Kepler....

So getting a 660m version is actually way better for me! I live in the tropics, there's no way in hell that I'd be able to use a laptop with a Fermi. Previous gaming laptop I had dragged with me from the US was almost unusable here, not even for Dosbox, for god's sake. Do anything more than Solitaire and it'd start to show up overheating symptoms...which the G55 hasn't done yet, wonders of wonders.

I'm still waiting for someone @ the ROG team to confirm this.. Or at least explain WHY you would pick the 670m rather than 670mx.

Makes no sense at all..

That's how 'Game On' is played .. hahhaa ..

I am sure this was a typo. I highly doubt they would revise the motherboard in the G55 so it could use the 670m. That seems like a lot of work for a laptop that has been out for this long. Priorities are probably much more focused on a G56/G76, then doing something like this. The facebook post you are showing was probably meant to say G75, not G55

Alot of work on a gpu that's not only no longer in production. Thats like comping out with a projection TV now. Makes no sense

Just wonder why that he would confirm it then.. If it was a typo?

I specifically asked "does the G55 have a 670M" and the person who replied to my post confirmed it.. So seems a bit strange imo.

So after ALMOST ordering a G75VX I decided to go MSI instead - GT60 with a 675M :/
Almost impossible to find a decent 15.6'' That holds a somewhat "future proof" Card, unless it's cleavo, saga or w/e that we don't really have in the EU (Scandinavia)

I'm so dissapointed with ASUS right now.. No one seems to know anything or simply refuses to say anything.

Would gladly have bought a G55 if they could actually come up with something better than 660M

Doubt anything great will be annouced @ PAX East, but if so.. I might consider cancelling my GT60.

Peace out!

A somewhat future proof card. You know the GTX 675m is a fermi right? And the GTX 670mx in the G75VX is slightly faster and can oc with no increase in voltage to get pretty close to a GTX 680m at stock.

I guess if higher numbers help you sleep at night then cool. But i would take a kepler over any fermi any day of the week. And for the price point i would get a HD 7980m that would mop the floor with the GTX 670mx,675m,675mx all day long. $1,100 gets you a MSI GX60 1AC-021US. Yes the A10 is slower but that APU is not as slow as people think it is and it is still a way way way way way better gaming system then the G55 and G46 can and will ever be i mean its $1,100 and its packing a HD 7980m in it.

Sagi

Seen a test of the A10.. It scores about the same as a I3.
Anyway's it should have said 675MX - 680M is still far to expensive, not gonna spent that much on a laptop.

PS. I don't like AMD

Even if you dont like it that MSI is still a better gaming system and cheaper. A10's are slower then i5's in some stuff but in a few benches they wreck a i7. But encodeing and most benches the intel win but in gaming the A10 with a HD 7980m will obliterate a i7 3630qm with a GTX 670mx every day of the week and it will take some descent oc's on theGTX 670m to even catch up and even then the HD 7980m can oc and kill it off even harder. Remember the HD 7980m is on par with a GTX 680m .

Like AMD or not that is the best 15inch gaming laptop for the price and a G46,55,75 cant even touch that thing in games.

Unless your going to be doing encoding and what not the A10 + HD 7980m is a far better buy and thats just a fact. For pure gaming a A10 with HD 7980m will win every day of the week against a i7 and a HTX 670mx and GTX 675mx. And even the games that run like crap on ATI systems that HD 7980m will still run it slightly faster then a GTX 670mx

Sagi
03-21-2013, 01:28 PM
Everyone has their own taste in Things, AMD is just not mine :)

You don't have to tell me how good the 7980M is, I know it already - But never been a fan of that brand, only had bad experience with it.
I don't think CFing a 7970m with an A10 would be the best idea, primarily because of micro-stuttering.

ASUS has just fallen behind MSI when it comes to developing a propper gaming laptop.
They do everything right, but only  The GT60 is not in stock atm. so I do have the option to cancel the order if it actually turns out, that there is a G55 on its way with something better then 660M.

Hehe, just hope I didn't make a mistake buying MSI. I have not been able to find any real reviews that I felt could be taken serious.

But then again, there are plenty of people who seems to have a lot of problems with the quality of their ASUS products.

Not all that much thicker then the Asus. The GT60 is 1.77" thick the back of the G55 is 2.00 inches. Tapers in the front for it don't see like its 2 inches thick but that thing is way to thick for what it is and what it lacks. It should of beent he same size as the G46 in terms of thickness.
