Hi Guys,

For the last few weeks i noticed that my Windows 7 keeps freezing and is running very slow.
I tried everything possible to find the problem, without any luck.

Would a Bios update improve the performance.

Thanks in advance.

Out of curiousity and this is a way left of the field question, but....do you have quite a sizable font collection?

Myk left field indeed, go on I will bite what is the relationship between fonts and slow speeds of PC's?

OP - most of the time this is caused by a build up of junk in your system. Do you use CCleaner or similar to empty out the accumulated dross?

What virus application do you have running?

When I updated my BIOS on my G75VW-T1086V, it fixed a problem where the CPU was always @ 800 Mhz. now it is always @ 3100 Mhz. :)

The only thing which would fix your sluggish per ormance is a CLEAN install

I had it happen to me not long ago, I trawled the net for a few weeks looking for free to use Fonts and amassed myself a sizable collection - 16444 to be exact lol. I put them all into the Fonts folder and instantly I noticed that when I loaded up Firefox, PhotoShop or anything else that uses fonts....the load time is extremely slow. I Googled the problem and came across the link above :)

Hi Myk SilentShadow,

Sorry please and call me stupid but what do you mean by font collection?

I found 229 fonts in the fonts folder, is that what you mean?

@Danish Kid,

Hmm Ok sounds like a plan.
I think i will end up doing exactly that.

I am about to buy a SSD and i would have to clean install the system anyway.

Cheers

sure let me know if u need any help

make sure u disable UEFI boot as soon as u install that SSD otherwise the partition wizard will force you to create a GPT partition which is very tricky to back up (as in create a system image)

I usually partition my SSD using Gparted via the Gparted boot CD and just create a C: Partition (50 GB) and the rest on D:

then I put all my personal files like music and docs and pics on the HDD which is a 1 TB HDD

Have you installed any new software in the last month or so?

@HiVizMan,

apart from updating Windows 7 I only recently installed Norton 360.
The Startup takes around 2 min as well.

I really havent got a clue why it would take this long for the past few weeks.
