Hi guys...

I've just received my Asus G73JH from Amazon. The laptop shuts down reaching 75C, tested with Furumark, with factory Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and clean Windows 7 Ultimate x64 installation.

Currently using AMD Catalyst last drivers.

The Idle readings from HWinfo64 are:

CPU: 44C to 56C.

GPU:
Thermal Diode: 59C
DispIO: 55C - 56C
MemIO: 59C - 60C
Shader: 53C - 54C
Fan Speed: 30%

My ambient is between 25C - 30C.

I've read many topics from this forum and i can't say that my laptop has overheating issues since is not reaching 112 (Standard emergency shut down).

This is my third G series(G50, G60 previously) never experienced any problem, i don't want to be dissapointed by this issue.

Is there any way to disable the "automatic shut down" and see if it keeps heating up?

Thanks for any help... :o

PS: Sorry for my bad english. :o

Download HWINFO64 and install this. Open up the sensor panel, and you will see the 5870M has 3 temps. I'm guessing MemIO is getting up too high and causing the shutdown. The fix for that is a repaste. If you cannot do it yourself, take it to a local Asus ASP location if you live in North America.

Thanks for the advice...

The thing is that i've allready done that...

The idle temps are:

Furmark Bechmark temps:

After 1.30 minutes of furmark, the gpu reaches 75C and shutsdown the laptop, it's not even close to the 110C that supposed to shutdown the laptop, so i don't think is an overheating issue.

Is there any way to disable the "automatic shut down" or change the setup...?

In your pic, MemIO is reaching 82C. When it shuts down, how long does it take for you to be able to reactivate it?

Instantly... as soon it shutsdown i can power on the laptop again...

Is 82C on MemIO toooooo high? Becouse if it is... i'll manage to do repaste the GPU...

Thanks again Chastity!

If you can reboot instantly, then it's not thermal shutdown.

You may want to check if your memory and HDD's are mounted correctly. Or reseat your battery. Something is causing your machine to just black off.

Are you using a legit copy of Windows Ultimate, or a warez'd edition? The hacks for the warez edition can do weird stuff like this. And tbh, there's nothing to get from using Ultimate that Home Premium doesn't already give you.

I will check the ram and hdds. I'm using a legit copy of ultimate 64 and tryed the home premium factory install.

Chastity you are awesome... thanks for taking the time to help me....

Does this happen while your system is running on batteries or while using a PSU?

I think i Finally solved the problem... with the help of you guys:

First Try:

I've dismantled the laptop becouse of the unreacheable ram memory module on the back of the motherboard. To see if all the memory modules were properly installed and repaste the gpu, then installed the asus vga official drivers (2009).

Here are some pictures.. it was such an exciting experience!

I've got the same results, vga heating up to fast (1 minute) and reaching 85C this time, but idle temps 7 to 10C below average (Artic Silver 5).

Second try:

Unpluged the laptop's AC, and run the Furmark test on Batery:

This time i've got 70C after 15 minutes (A new record :P).

If i'm not wrong, i'm affraid the laptop's AC has issues or is not appropriate.

AC details:
Output: 19.5V and 7.7A. Are this values ok?

Looks like i'm gonna have to buy another one right?

Once again.... thanks so much chastity and Flint! Would love to buy you some beers, but i'm very far away... i don't know how to thank you!
