I don't see the 780m anywhere ? :)

I've only seen the 770m on the EU sites.

Well, if there is Thunderbolt, it must be shared...because the voice-over didn't even mention it on the laptop...only on the splash screen before the unboxing commenced, not even looking at the hardware list did I see TB on this model.

hey thanks for the video!

@GenTechPC, one question: can we really upgrade the cpu for jw and jx models? i mean, unless it's a jh that has a 4700mq, the cpu's for jw and jx are 4700hq. from what i've learned, the package size of cpu is different between 4700hq and 4700mq.

It was a mistake on the voice, should be Thunderbolt Port.

All G750 has i7-4700HQ, non of them has MQ at least for USA SKUs.

yes CPU is upgradable on all G750.

ok; thanks for the confirmation; because the jh model at gentechpc.com has 4700mq listed as cpu. the other two has 4700hq. so i thought only jh model can be upgraded because of the right package size.

I know it was inspired from G46 but it looks like previous 2 gen..

@GenTechPC no more aluminum brush finish on JX and JH models too?

Question for ASUS reps:

Why has there not been more noise made about these laptops through official channels?

EDIT: Contacted the website and apparently ASUS moved embargo up till next week which is why it's not available atm. Guess I got lucky getting mine early lol. Hm to think about it E3 starts Monday as well so maybe something to do with that?

i am still curious about the cpu specifications, and need good information on this one.

from ark.intel.com, you can see in the list of 4th gen mobile cpu's. in that list, there is a 4700mq, and a 4700hq. there is a difference in terms of package specifications that i saw in these two:

4700mq - 37.5mm x 37.5mm x 4.7mm; socket: FCPGA946
4700hq - 37.5mm x 32mm x 1.6mm; socket: FCBGA1364

when i checked the specs of a g750, it said it has a 4700hq. apparently the socket type for this cpu is a BGA. really? why BGA package? from google, BGA is supposed to be permanently soldered cpu.

i ask this because i will do cpu upgrade by myself when the time comes. if the above was true, asus is taking away the chance for us to use cpu's that we want to :/

That is how it always works. New model replaces older for generally same price. I made the mistake of purchasing the g74 right before g75 was announced lol. Sold for the same price too.

The 765m is less powerful than 670MX. The CPU price is about the same as well as the power. That is why the 750 model may turnout cheaper than a VX. The card is cheaper.

Ah, you no longer have access to your dual fan.
That makes cleaning a little harder :(

That makes me sick to be honest. I very hope JH version has different chasis and with access to our fans!

Any news about G55VW replacement?
Since we already have a 17" replacement for the G75VW :D
4.7KG for a 17" isnt exactly ideal to carry around :|

Apparently there will be no such thing as a "G550" model. I've asked around and people say the only G series now are the 750's.
I find that to be very weird, I really don't think that is a smart move.

Come on Asus, and bring us G550:
G55vw chassis and cooling system +
Core i7 4700 or 4702
Geforce GTX 765M or 770M
And possibly also Matte IPS/*VA screen and SSD options?

17" is too big for many while 14" is too small.
I know many people (including me) consider 15" as the perfect balance of mobility and screen estate.

Currently only options in 15" class with Geforce GTX 7 are Clevo/MSI which have much weaker&noisier cooling systems than ASUS.

Current technology, of the high caliber you are talking about, needs physical volume to do a good job cooling. 15"/14"/13" is too small - when I run such small machines I have to put them up on Dixie Cups to enhance cooling otherwise they "burn up" under my normal use.

There is a reason why the Alienware, Asus, MSI machines that have the best performance are so huge, they need the space to fit the cooling and diffuse the heat.

17" is the optimal size for now.

Get some exercise, get a 17" + a couple of spare batteries, heft and tote that 17" around like you love it
