View Full Version : G55V with boot issues

I have a G55V (G55VW-ES71) that has just developed a significant issue. After shutting it down, I returned later to boot it and it now will not get past the initial ROG logo page. It loads for a few seconds with the keyboard back lights coming, then starts over again, ad-naseum.

I attempted to run the Repair option from the Windows 7 installation disc but I get an error reporting that it cannot fix the version of windows that I have installed (which is Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit0.

From the installation disc I was able to get to a command prompt and verify that the hard drive is there. I tried a great many things with no luck. I tried fixing the boot record (with several different methods), making changes to the bios, etc. I have tried so many things I have lost track so I'm taking a step back to regroup.

Any suggestions for a "most likely" cause that I can start looking at? The Windows repair would seem optimum but I haven't had any luck getting it to run. Nothing I tried towards that end (for example, changing the boot order in bios) has made any difference.

Thanks,

Michael

EDIT: never mind. As these things usually go, I tried again to repair the boot sector and this time it worked (although I have no idea why it did this time and not the times I tried before).

Welcome to the forums!

Changing the boot order in the BIOS will only help if the OS is installed on a different drive, which I doubt. It will help if you are often trying to boot USB or optical media (for recovery purposes). If you don't have data (or have it backed up), I would recommend reinstalling Windows (or better yet, switching to LINUX [end shameless plug ]). If you can, please try booting a live USB (or live DVD) of Linux Mint and let us know if that works (it will help to eliminate hardware issues as the culprit).
