Hey guys,

I'm looking into upgrading my ootb screen with my G74sx-1aty to a better monitor. I currently have the standard screen, the one that comes with the limited viewing angles. I was hoping that someone who's already knowledgeable could suggest a few possible upgrades?

Thanks!

Do you mean the glossy screen? I originally ordered mine with the glossy (which had a pretty limited viewing angle, so I assume that's what you have). Ended up not liking it due to the reflections and glare so I replaced it with a matte screen from here: https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/screen-part-number/N173HGE-L21/

Couldn't be happier. No reflections, no glare, and no dead pixels (glossy screen got a stuck green pixel after a year that couldn't be corrected). Great deal and the thing got here something like two days before they said to expect it. 1920x1080 too, same as the OEM screens. Changing it was a bit of a chore, but there are a few really good walkthroughs on Youtube (and one here) that explain the process very well.

No, it's a matte 1600x900 screen. It's the low quality one that if your not looking at it dead on, it's hard to see anything.

I was considering a glossy, but like you said, the reflections and glare would would annoy me. :(

I was able to pick up a full 1920x1080 in a matte finish from screen country pretty cheap. They have a pretty good walkthrough on how to change out your old screen to the new one. My wife got the glossy version and I must say, the matte one looks ALOT better side by side.

Source?

I've used Laptopscreen.com before with my HPDV7T and wound up with an incompatible product and a bent laptop frame, so finding a 100% positive fit would be awesome. I've had the 1920x1080 glossy screen since purchase in December 10, but I've been working in the field for the last year and a half and the gloss is just not working anymore. Would love to have a matte screen with as beautiful and bright colors as the glossy, but am afraid of making the purchase.

Would you (or anyone else) consider the 1920x1080 MATTE screen BETTER or WORSE than the 1080 glossy screen?

I would say better, and I stand firm on that answer.

So I went ahead and purchased that matte screen recommended above to replace my existing 1080p HD glossy screen. After the simple, albeit long replacement process, I powered up to a blank screen. I can hear the startup process and Win7 welcome sound, and my screen does appear to have backlit power, but there is no actual information displayed--just black.

Did I get a dud? I checked once, twice, and a third time my connection to no avail, and ended up just putting the original screen back in :( Furthermore, Im afraid Im going to get screwed by the Screencountry people :(

Any update on this? Did I receive a defective screen?
