Congratulations! And... any questions? ;)

What is exactly your G750JX model?
What about the noise level?
Which Wifi card do you have exactly?
Which drives do you have exactly?
Which SDRAM do you have? (Frequency? Any brand?)
Do you have the thunderbolt sticker?
So, you got a G75VX, now a G750JX, and you think the new one is really better? (Screen? Touchpad? Keyboard?)
What means a "much better" screen?

Thanks!

jsarver

g750jx-db71
low noise levels. similar to my previous vx
Broadcam 802.11ac wifi
liteonit 256m3s ssd and st1000lm024 hdd- these are both partitioned in half for a total of four separate drives...seems like a weird thing to do.
no idea on ram
yes it has thunderbolt
this screen has far better color and viewing angles. it also seems brighter to me then the vx from BB.

Thank you very much! Sometimes it's hard to get information...

The SSD seems pretty good according to this site:
http://www.harddrivebenchmark.net/hdd_lookup.php?hdd=LITEONIT+256GB+LCT-256M3S&id=740
Close to "Samsung SSD 840 PRO", and better than the "Kingston SSDNOW 256" I found in a G75VX. (Even if I guess it's not easy to notice differences when using it... and that the most important quality for me is reliability.)
I think this is not the worst way to partition it... ;)

I forgot one question: are speakers good this time?
I read several issues on G75VX... (All soud going through the "fake" sub woofer", low volume not really low, sound control different on speakers and subwoofer, subwoofer working when using headset, ...)

For the RAM, there is BIOS, or some free programs listed below to get details. However, when it's related to computers, I prefer never advice anything. So it's as you wish. :D Not being a tech guy, maybe I'm totally outdated?
CPU-Z
Everest
AIDA-64
PC wizard
etc...
(MemTest86+ or MemTest to check RAM... but hopefully you'll never need it ;) )

ram is 16gb at 1600mhz cl11. dont feeling like popping it open for a brand. no problem on the info. keep the questions coming.

i personally dont mind the sound. the sub doesnt provide much bass and actually seems to work as more of an all around speaker. the sounds is loud and clear, but once the volume is maxed it seems to give off a bit of an echo as the sound bounces off everything. hope that makes sense. the sound doesnt upset me one bit and if people hate it that much then you can always grab some headphones i suppose.

BTW OP, can you please try installing Nvidia reference drivers from their site. Cause G75's vith MX cards have had problems with those. Thanks.

I have tried and the installer is telling me it didn't detect compatible hardware. Tried modifying nvidia inf file but not sure if I did it right. The only one available was the newest beta so I'm hoping that this issue is fixed on final release. Never had issues before on my vx

OK, I've had it up to here with the whining about the subwoofer crap; it's time to talk facts.

When was the last time you ever saw a 1.5"-2" in diameter subwoofer? Never, right? Do you know why? They don't exist. A cone that size can't produce the frequency a subwoofer aims to produce without being enclosed; it can't, period. The inclusion of a 1.5"-2" speaker on the bottom is to emulate a subwoofer and give us deeper frequencies that can be produced with the standard (puny) speakers included in notebooks.

How anyone can even think that a cone that size should work as a subwoofer is just completely ludicrous. I suggest you all learn to play with the equalizer settings to get the best sound you can out of what you are given (cause they definitely can sound decent in a pinch, but any serious person would use either external speakers or a headset to get better sound reproduction); and be grateful it isn't a notebook with just 2 puny speakers like so many other notebooks out there.

NVIDIA guys said it might be a little longer before those drivers will support this laptops GPU.

I think because ASUS put one of their custom MXM cards NVIDIA hasn't written in the device ID yet. (Which would explain why the Clevo & Alienware cards work since they're generic MXM)

And I'll just quote myself from my reply to that thread.

ADF is here... Once, there a was a G73, with almost perfect speakers. I guess you missed it. Then, there was a G75 with the worst audio I've ever heard on the laptop. But I guess you've missed it as well. And now this. It is really annoying when audio comes out stronger on the left side of the notebook, due to that stupid speaker underneath. And you can barely hear your right side. No one is talking about professional level audio, so stop your whining about my concern with asus QA. Thanks to "pros" like you, on the nextgen G series, Asus will decide to drop the speakers altogether. Who needs them, right?

Hit F2 when restarting the laptop. Has to be a restart AFAIK, can't be a cold boot.

jsarver
07-01-2013, 03:42 AM
this man was correct...you can only enter bios by using the restart function. not from a cold boot. it is esc key as well. bios is 206...looks like its update time! fingers crossed :)

I've been having some problems with the 311.59 Nvidia driver. Driver crashed once while playing Max Payne 3 and I had a couple of graphical issues. Will be rolling back, since I didn't have any problems pre-update.

Is this tested and stable?

No, that's why it's called 'beta'

It's use at your own risk.

** There's no device clock settings or vBIOS type things in this driver so the chances of hardware damage are very low. However, it's possible for system instability to occur (BSOD, freeze, lockups etc)

Gotcha. I think I'll hold off for now but thanks. Hopefully some people on here run it and I can get some feedback. Any idea on when nvidia will support this version of the 770m.

Curious was this just an inf file mod or is it more involved?

bf3 played well. ran between 70 and 90 fps. temps were 70 while sitting on my lap. ambient is about 22. i used the settings that geforce experience recommended. its a custom setting that mixes ultra with some low. ill give a "normal" setting test here soon. everything looked great though

Hiya guys! Got my G750JX last Monday. It's been workin' really good, except that since two days ago, it's been doing cold booting issues. :( Turning it ON for the first time in the day will just leave it stuck on the ROG logo. Turn it off (could hear the secondary drive stopping noise :( ) and ON again will resolve the issue. Anyone has the same issue? Other than this, the unit works good, really good.

Hi,everybody :)
I have one question that nobody can answer me :(
Does this ROG model G750JX support SDXC memory cards (128Gb & 256Gb)?
In the specs only SD.But it is tricky, because all those cards SD,SDHC & SDXC are under SD name.
Can some of you, confirm or deny about SD slot if can read/write SDXC 128Gb & 256Gb cards?
For example, the best Toshiba Qosmio model SD slot supports only up to 64Gb.
Thanks in advance!
Also,if someone can write dissadvantages(if any) of this Asus model, compared to older one G75VX.

I played with the G750jx at BB and I just bought the g75vx like 2 months ago. I can say I like the G75VX better because one the frame. The G750jx has the G55vw body which im not a fan of. I like the matt finish that is on the G75VX also the keyboard feels a lot nicer. The screen is nicer on the G750jx and it sports a nicer graphics card. The processor is higher but the both max out at 32gigs of ram on the motherboard. I thought about bringing back the vx but i think im going to keep it. whats your thoughts about the differences? since you owned both machines....
