View Full Version : My G75VW laptop started making an "alien-ish" fan sound, what is it?

Hi!

Yesterday, my G75VW-laptop started making a low whirling noise (not sure what you call it...), but it does not come from either of the two fans that i can check easily.

Any idea on what it is, how to fix it, or if it is a guarantee case? It`s annoying as ***** so i gotta get it fixed.

The only modification done to the laptop is that i have setup two SSD`s in RAID0. ;)

I recorded the sound: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/..._fan_sound.3ga

Hmm, your link is not working, if you removed both hard drives then the only moving parts you have left are the CPU Fan and GPU Fan, and Optical drive where I suspect perhaps your noise is coming from?

Whops, better link here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/83758451/strange_fan_sound.3ga

Strangely enough, today the sound is gone... for now.

Well I don't have a player that will play this format. Still you told us that you replaced the hard drives with SSD's, that only leaves the optical drive and the 2 fans that are mechanical if its a rotational noise it has to be one of the three. I would remove the optical drive and if that doesn't stop the noise it has to be one of the Fans. You can remove the bottom panel to check one them the other has its own cover. Thread (http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?14583-Upgrading-the-G75VW&country=&status=) showing where fans are.
