So, I'm getting a laptop for college. Purchasing one on friday. This is the laptop I've been looking at:

Everyone I've talked to says its a solid machine and a damn good price. What do you guys think? I'll be using it for school and light gaming. Probably bring it to friends houses when we play l4d2, it should play that at around medium settings no problem.

I just wish there was a budget ROG laptop. What do you guys think? Max I could probably pay for a laptop is $550 with shipping.

what do you plan to do with the machine? is it a desktop replacment or will you be carrying it around? 17.3 inches for carrying around school is huge.

why dont you check out a B43 notebook: http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-B43J-A1B-14-Inch-Business-Laptop/dp/tech-data/B0041UE0ZQ/ref=de_a_smtd

has a core i5

Looks like a good machine for the price. I say just get what you can afford and don't try to overextend yourself. You can always get a summer job for some extra cash if you want a faster one next year. However I might even consider going down to 15" myself. I found that when I was in school I would often consider whether I really wanted to bring my laptop because of the weight. Going a couple of inches smaller will probably save you a pound or two, plus it won't take as much space on a desk or lab bench. That was the other problem, not having enough room for an open book + laptop.

I considered a VERY similar 15 inch but, this one has more power. I like power :P

I'm hopefully getting a job at the college I'm going to in their IT department. My friend who works there now says Im a "shoe in", we'll see. If so, I'll save up for a nice ROG laptop :)
