Do I treat this as a single drive when installing 8 or as a raid? I want to make sure trim works so do I also need the latest irst drivers for the install? Not familiar with pcie ssds or raid setups

hey i read that multiple times before posting. it doesnt actually tell you how to treat the drive though. does it need irst? does it control trim on its own or does windows need to? im thinking it should be treated as one normal drive but not sure. if someone could help with the basics i can take it the rest of the way.

Hello mate, if you have the drive simply pop it in the PCIe slot and follow the normal way to install your OS. It is a single drive and has its own ctrl-m (I think it is) to set up the RAID on your RAIDexpress.

ok cool so no irst needed during install? it arrives tomorrow from newegg.

IRST is for Intel SATA controllers. Irrelevant for PCIe storage devices.

mine did not automatically install RAID - had to use my bios to create Raid0 - if you dont it will show as two drives.

That is correct.

So what exactly are the steps to install Windows 8 Pro (fresh install)? I'm having lots of trouble with this. I have tried all different methods. No luck so far. Always get an error at the step of choosing drive to install the OS on. Different errors for different ways tried.

Please help! Thanks,

Jimmy

You have to enter the RAIDR interface and setup your RAID-0 array. After that continue with normal installation of Windows. If you wish to install in UEFI mode, then after setiing up the RAID-0 array, switch the card to UEFI mode and proceed with the guide in my signature.

This drive is causing me greif. I've created the raid array & then switched it to uefi. Rebooted & installed Win 8 on the 3rd partion that it creates then when i reboot again the drive is nowhere to be found & won't boot. Any ideas?

Are you selecting "Windows Boot Manager" as your boot device?

I can't see windows boot manager, the only boot device is my optical drive. I've followed all the guides and read all forums regarding this, my gut feeling is telling me the hardware is fine but something in the bios possibly isn't right or the firmware on the RAIDR may need updating ( i can't even seem to do this) I've secured erased the drive tho.
