Hi,
I recently got my G73SW back from yet ANOTHER warranty repair (this time a failed HDD controller I believe) and now my HDMI output is not working! Laptop won't detect any monitor/tv plugged in, tried rolling back to earlier Nvidia drivers which worked before (running windows 8) but no luck. Everything else inc. VGA port appears to be OK.

To me it seems ANOTHER hardware issue.
In the report I got back, it indicates they replaced a "sub printed circuit board".

To save another 3-4 week return, can someone tell me if the HDMI port is part of the motherboard or if it is seperate and connected by a cable which may not have been plugged in properly?

I'm capable of tackling it myself if it's just an internal cable.
Other possible solutions welcome

Cheers.

Thanks Pitcher. I watched a couple of youtube videos and it appears to be attached. Looks like another return for repair :(
Luckily I got the stores extended warranty as the ASUS one expired last month.

Not sure if it's worth going through more troubleshooting, but if you think it's a good idea, we can give it a try.

If you can see or feel something physically wrong with the notebook HDMI port, it may not be worth spending too much more time to troubleshoot though.

Some things to check/answer below if you're interested.

1. Have you been able to get the HDMI working before with the notebook and changed anything else (like a different HDMI cable? )?

2. Try checking the HDMI output while you are in the bios, but not sure if that normally works for your model.

3. If you can get your hands on a different system, make sure the HDMI works with the rest of the same hardware.

4. Before you send the notebook back, try to reload the bios defaults if you haven't already and updating the bios if you aren't going to get into any trouble from the service center (otherwise, let them try this, but hoping they will not complain if a bad bios flash kills your system). Really not sure if this will make much difference though.

Just hoping we can find another way to get it working!

Thanks Albert for your ideas.

I haven't pulled the laptop apart again, but externally everything appears to be fine with the port and the HDMI cable fits in snugly.

The port worked perfectly and I'd had no previous problems before this last warranty repair, which I believe was for a failed HDD controller.
Nothing has changed, same software all reloaded (tried rolling back Nvidia driver). The TV and cable work fine with my desktop PC.

Booted into bios as you suggested with HDMI attached, nothing appeared on that screen, no bios options found. I can't remember if it dual displayed in bios before with HDMI connected. Loading bios defaults changed nothing.

I was hoping not to be without my laptop AGAIN for another 3-4 weeks.

Cheers.
