View Full Version : G73 2nd HDD/SSD caddy?

My G73, with its two drive bays, only came with one caddy. I'm assuming this is normal. Where can I get another caddy? Nowhere on the ASUS site is there a section to order parts like that. Right now my SSD is just kind of chillin' in there with no caddy. The SSD is really light, so I'm sure it'll be okay for now, but I'd much rather have a caddy to mount it in.

A bit of folded paper or some foam from the box your SSD came in should hold it until you get the caddy.

I found you a link to a store on Ebay:
http://global.ebay.com/Asus_G73_/260613792235/item

Personally I just live with a bit of foam in there pressed against the cover. Like you said it's lightweight enough that it's not really an issue.

Hello Matt,

To find accessories for ASUS products you can check http://estore.asus.com

I believe the following link may be what you're looking for but eStore does not currently have it in stock. However, it should be in stock soon.

Thanks a bunch. Hopefully when they come in stock they aren't too expensive for what they are. The SSD doesn't really require one, but if I want to mount another traditional HDD in there it will be nice to have it on hand.

Oh nice, been looking for a website or e-tailer to get one of these for a while. Double-sided sticky tape just doesn't cut it....

It would be nice if the store actually had them listed anymore, much less in-stock.

I need one of these too. I find it extremely ridiculous that in the first place the second caddy isn't included with the laptop, and secondly they aren't even available to buy right now. Honestly they should be free when they are available, in my eyes you shipped in incomplete laptop and for as much as these laptops that is quite ridiculous.

It shouldn't be included in the laptop... the product is sold for people that want to purchase a single harddrive. upgrading to a 2nd is just an option and possibility.

I just talked to our estore team and at the moment we have discontinued bringing them in. They are unsure when they would start to bring them in again. sorry guys..

Wow really? With the amount of requests from various sites and forums you would think it was a no-brainer. Bummer

Here is a link to the EU site, they still have them in stock.

yea, im sure the caddy is a hot selling item as everyone wants to upgrade their harddrive. all i can do is let the estore know that people are requesting them and they are in demand.

Sorry but that is just pure BS. You have all the necessary hardware for a second HDD and for $1500+ you could give us a $5 piece of metal. The fact that you call it an option is extremely laughable too, it apparently isn't since they AREN'T AVAILABLE. That argument would almost hold if you could buy them but for the amount of this laptop costs and the fact that it is seen as a high-end gaming laptop the second HDD bracket really should be included.

well you have to understand that we sell the notebooks advertising as a single harddrive. we never advertise that it comes ready to upgrade for a 2nd harddrive. we have special models that offer double harddrive configs if needed. but yes it is "possible" for you to upgrade harddrive, memory or cpu, but we do not promote it nor support it. think of it has a freebie to those that want to take advantage of the 2nd slot. its only there because different vendors want different configurations. its much easier for us to take 1 harddrive out rather than redesign the notebook specific with 1 sata port. again its that added benefit if you know what you are looking for.

this can be an easy fix if you use industrial strength velcro.

This is really disheartening. Is it so hard to just sell us $5 of metal? Or include it in the box? You're really telling us to use velcro?

That is what I am saying. It is not like they are short of them because they are obviously still selling the laptop which means they have the part they are just refusing to sell it. It is bull, and I honestly will never buy Asus myself after this or recommend them to any of my customers. At least other companies give you the 2nd hdd caddy/ allow you to buy one. Or the laptops are built in such a way they don't need the caddy.

all i can say is at the current moment, thats what im being told from the parts department. velcro is just an alternative fix if you cant get access to a caddy. i will continue to see how we can bring these in the future.

I made my own, but it would be nice to have one that was made for the G73. Mine works fine but it looks a little ruff .

I tried to find the caddy in the link above and couldn't. I just found them on eBay for $25 or so: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230573084820. Just ordered one.

fyi. Although the G73 caddy is listed on our 'newer' U.S. and Canadian ASUS eStore site, it's out of stock currently, so hoping we will be able to get more especially since they appear to use the same caddies as the newer G75VW, G750Jx, G750Jw models.

http://us.estore.asus.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=3018

It may also take a while if the U.S./Canadian eStore can still get them, but hoping they will show up eventually for anyone that's still interested.

Edit 1/26/15: From what I've heard the U.S. eStore does not expect to get more until June 2015, so anybody still interested may want to check the eStore site around that time. Sorry for the very long delay.
