Nice one ganji! :)

Here I have pulled one BIOS chip like a rotten tooth ( ordered 2 new ones ) teach me to play with BIOSes....tried 0024 just because....big mistake....flashed older BIOS with FTK tools but something is still not right....BIOS 2 works but still can't OC RAM to 2400 all of a sudden!

ganji
10-12-2013, 08:58 PM
You're not having much luck are ya mate, I'm proper paranoid when it comes to flashin a bios so just bought a new chip last time to save the hassle lol
Hope you get it sussed soon chap.

HiVizMan
10-13-2013, 05:58 PM
Arne you can always flash back to older versions if you want.

Arne Saknussemm
10-15-2013, 04:13 PM
Well I've had to dedicate valuable benching time to investigating BIOS problems...but in the end I've sorted it...

I had to flash back to 1404 with FTK tools to clear out whatever corruption I had in the BIOS from playing with 4xxx series I can now successfully OC the system as in the days of yore :) and in particular the RAM...which would not OC on 4xxx bios now back to 2400+ at timings tighter than a gnat's chuff....

But one of the BIOS chips is toast.....can set up profiles but clearing cmos deletes some leaves others etc etc. gone...have ordered new chips.

HiVizMan
10-15-2013, 04:15 PM
Ah I could have helped you out there and sent you a chip mate.

But as long as you are sorted then all good.

Arne Saknussemm
10-15-2013, 04:24 PM
No worries, one of the chips is fine...the others will be here this week so all good....was really difficult to diagnose though....to all appearances worked fine....but could not get 2400 out of RAM! it's just because I know 100% that this CPU and RAM will do 2400+ at cas9 that I kept plugging away.....

Just goes to show....should listen to the Viz when he says leave your BIOS alone! 1005 and 1404 are great BIOSes!

Right, on to benching...

How many sticks are using for the SP and WP? Two would give you some more headroom...

Also, you could try 2133-2200 range with tight PSC settings... but you should be able to further lower the timings...

HiVizMan
10-19-2013, 12:19 PM
With 2133MHz you should be doing cas 6 with ease.

Zka17
10-19-2013, 12:25 PM

10-19-2013, 12:33 PM
You guys talking the Pi ram here? I was only using one stick to get to 2400 ran 2 sticks like that too but only once...trying to boot again just got 01....I'll try 2133 and see what happens....thanks!!

HiVizMan
10-19-2013, 12:57 PM
Pi ram indeed. It could just be that you have one strong stick and one weak stick. Might be able to help you there.

Arne Saknussemm
10-19-2013, 01:10 PM
When I loaded stock settings it was trying to set different timings for each stick even though the serial numbers on the sticks are consecutive.......so I'm guessing from one kit. both from a 12GBPI set....

I loaded tight PSC timings from RIVE BIOS but when I tried changing any timing first second or third by just 1 (and I tried them all one by one ) they would not work amazing :)....not sure if you have to tweak in sets as it were....

HiVizMan
10-19-2013, 02:20 PM
Even in sets the sticks will clock differently. Normally I have to go through 20 sets to get four sticks that are keepers.

Arne Saknussemm
10-19-2013, 02:28 PM
Holy cow! where did you find 20 sets? I presume you got these when they were readily available....have to scour ebay more often

HiVizMan
10-19-2013, 02:32 PM

Just this morning I saw your score and thought "it's all over" funny what you can learn in a day on a HiViz challenge

Funny thing is wprime took to the RAM like a duck to water but Super Pi 4M...worse than the platinums...go figure..

Why do you guys think that one set of ram timings and frequency works for all 2D benching. Would I really have a challenge that was one size fits all. I think not. Each benchmark will and does have its own unique settings.

Arne, I have never got them to 2666 on the 3930, you would see the smile on my face from where you live if I did

You will need cold and voltage Menthol. Normally about -110'c and suitable voltage.

Yes it's true...kind of forgetting that....have to try xp for SPi and treat it as an individual....none of this commie benching!:D

Once you have everything shut down and only wPrime running run it 3 or 4 or 5 times in a row it saves your best score and first is not best for me...3rd or 4th seems to be.

Or do you all know that already :o

Indeed there are many ways to reach the same outcome, I have told the guys of two. You choose the first one and it works a treat too.

That RB is looking pretty tight Arne most impressed, can you remember when we were all looking at 800 as the lofty goal still to be achieved? :o

As much as i'd like to mate i just can't think straight at the min and I've not even been in my bios since those last scores where posted. I need some sleep n sort my head out before i can do any benching.
Thanks for stepping in for me though its much appreciated.

lol, Arne, you are an all time classic! That's fabulous :D. Now, for the RB thing. I made my first runs in win 8.1 and I noticed lower scores coming up. I switched to an image of 8 with all the updates done and that one worked more efficient. I guess the 8.1 may need a bit of fine tuning from MS or something. If you have one (and the appetite), you may try. For me it's over a day before. Looking forward for the new one :)

Arne Saknussemm
10-31-2013, 08:24 PM
Ανυπομονώ να σας δούμε εκεί ο φίλος μου!

Yes, you are right....8.1 still needs tuning Win 8 gave better results for RB and wPrime. But then a few BSODs had it endlessly repairing and I can't be bothered to do yet another install :o

Arne,
Excellent benching, by the end of the month it is hard to be as enthusiastic as at the start, frustration sets in easily, for me anyway. Zaka did so good that it gave me a break from having to work as hard, just the psc memory alone eliminates so much work it is worth it's cost easily. Realbench, it must be a Greek thing, nik benches it like he was raised on it.

Arne Saknussemm
10-31-2013, 08:45 PM
Menthol! excellent benching yourself ! Kept me working trying to keep up but credit where it's due I couldn't do it even with the PSC you so generously lent! Super stuff from yourself and Z!
