I'm happy you have joined us just about time!
Awesome scores, my friend. You makes me proud and pleased to bench with you.

Goodmorning!
Thanks ganji, you too friend.

Dart, i was afraid i wouldn't make it on time. Had to work for this Sunday, which was unfortunate. I can't wait to start playing around again with my system, don't forget i have in my hands the FX-9, less than a week.
Go Team Young ;)

PS:
:: Maybe you should tell Dart that young is not exactly how you describe one born at '75::
:: Nah, i'm feeling younger already! ::
:: You have white hairs, man ::
:: Shut up! Dart is teh young, maybe i'm the restless! ::

75 is a good year, I have had wives born in 1975

solaufein_gr
10-07-2013, 10:28 AM
in that case, thank god i'm male :p

PS: i just wanted to clarify (see the dialog as a different way to say it) that my time is strict, wife, kid work etc leave little time for a hobby. Then again after some years (when kids grow alittle go to school etc) all of us, enthusiasts, suddenly flood the internet with kitchen tables or couch-storage (ντιβανοκασέλες για τον nikosa42) filled with PC hardware and colorfull tubes with neon lights.
Still my wife seems more happy of me staying late to "play" or screw-"little devils", than call me to come semi-drunk from the pub-bar, which is the "national standard", here.

HiVizMan
10-07-2013, 10:32 AM
That is exactly what I said in another thread, geeks make good husbands as we rather play with our hardware than get drunk in bars and play with other women.

My house is just hardware - we no longer have a dining table.

You mean hopefully? (That's a Team Young topic after all)

Ivy-E at 4.6 is a bit slower than SB-E at 4.9, but here we have a deal with efficiency.
I saw few days ago, Paw posted 14.37pts submission with 3930k@4.9.
I'm not sure is AMD CPU can run at like 650MHz, and even if it can, that it may get 1.31 pts at this freq.

Good job, Sola!

What memories are you waiting for?

solaufein_gr
10-17-2013, 12:47 PM
Rolf, this is a funny story.
i'm waiting my memory modules that gave to a friend, 2 years now and wants me to replace them (obviously only a very good friend would do that :D). They're g.skill f3-10666CL7-4GBECO x2 (8gb) ... and my man wants something equivalent (he wants 1.35 green modules for his server, to be precise and not something like powechip ICs)
Thing is i have write in mobo manual in notes something like ECO=powerchip. I saw that one day and taliking with Dart about memory-old chips etc ... i asked Dart "did powerchip has to do with anything with PSC" (ohh my ignorance!:o)

And since i'm on it, i put a friend in the inside of a retailer, looking for double sided trident X and he sent me a note today that he found some 2600C10 but he didn't write me details. If the price he give me is ok i will propably take those too. Memory is good. :)

Zka17
10-17-2013, 02:50 PM
I see... well, I don't have too much experience with memories on the CHVF-Z... - I have tried only some Corsair Dom GTs and DOM Plats, and these Pi ones...

My CPU does not seem to like the high clocks, only the tight timings... 2400MHz on the memories is not possible for me with tighter timings than CL9...

http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?33883-Summer-Sizzler-time-to-get-hot-real-hot.&p=285910&viewfull=1#post285910 @sola look at the screen of this stick. It's from 2400 but the same stands for 2600. Look for these with the four digits writing 2500. I own the ones with 2500 and they are very good. If you find the 1500 ones don't bother.

solaufein_gr
10-17-2013, 09:51 PM
Very nice.I'll keep it in mind. I have great doubts that the "good" ones, still exists in retailers hands tho. Must have cycled-out but if i'm freaky lucky i'll be happy happy. No complain :P

I wonder what tolerance one without ""extreme cooling needs"" have from an already binned (especially if its an mediocre IC) chip whitch is rated at 1300MHz...

edit: now thats something ... they are indeed those with 2500 (detailed: 13402500355932), also the manufacturer sticker says sep 2013 so its quite newer than those at the link above. I'm buying. thank you very much nikosa, nice hint :) cheers

Hey, i'm on AMD ... my CPU/NB will dictate their speed ... and i cannot stabilize nb above ~2660 or so ... i've also have some weird volt drops there but don't know if it has to do anything. I have the old CVF not the -z don't forget. Maybe has to do.
i have a feeling that g.skill is recycling serials on every now and then revision of chips. I will report later or tommorow ... must dry water to remove memory blocks ... it was about time i say, hopefully i'll gain a couple of degrees in CPU too ;)

Zka17
10-18-2013, 11:26 PM
Sola, what is your NB voltage?

Just a reminder... - in the Crosshair mobo section you can find a pretty detailed OC guide (sticky)...

HiVizMan
10-19-2013, 09:30 AM
All memory vendors change chips on product ranges. That is why there is no guarantee that two kits from the same series will be compatible.

I have just recently benched on that same board and I was able to get pretty high NB frequency, you do have to up the voltage if you want to increase NB and HT.

G;morning and many thanks. Those Trident X had to somehow justify the premium price, i say. :D

Seems strong memory, but it should been a little cheaper and offer a chance not to buy ... ... the ram blower. Omg.
I haven't seen one of those for ages. Yeah, its totally useless unless a case hase literally no airflow at all, in which case i really doubt that pc actually needs that RAM, afterall. Meassured the sticks at 1.8v and 1.75v full linpack stress and the spreaders berely pass 34 degrees with 24 ambient. As a ddr3 should.

It was developed by Benchtec a UK group of benchers a few years ago, Mutent Tractor is one of the key coders for the software. I was privileged to be the Admin of Benchtec UK for a while.

That tool does some nice improvement in SP!

For XP users: be aware that it needs .NET 3.5 - without that it won't work... (in Win7 I assume that it was automatically installed)

Something is wrong with WP though... the classical tweaks results in better scores... - or I'm missing something...

HiVizMan

The classical tweaks will work better, but for some folks they want an easy or one button solution. So we share them and let folks choose.

yeah, sorry for the upload inconvenience, HiVizman, i was in a great hurry, actually packing stuff for trip
Out of benching until sunday, sorry for this :(
I'll have some hours until 9AM monday, but only a few.

No worries mate, I went over to the mate who wrote the software home page and he lists it there.

Ok, last night i started to play again at max, only i wish i could chill this beast of a cpu more! I had 2 shutdowns from exceeding 78 celsius and lots more i break myself not waiting for mobo to stand. I have the slight feeling that the TDP of 9370 at 5.3ghz with 1.56volt must reach 300W but no way to confirm such claim. Gotta love it!
I tried to start with 1.6Volt but i got overvoltage warning at POST, why is this? my mobo-bios has cap at voltage?

Zka17
10-29-2013, 08:41 AM
These FX CPUs are running hot... as you raise the frequency and voltages, they will be even hotter... - a good cooling will show it's value now...

You can go to the Voltage monitoring in your BIOS and set to "Ignore", then it won't give you trouble passing 1.6V...

solaufein_gr
10-29-2013, 09:22 AM
I have the option to ignore voltage monitor? I'm feeling a little dump! :D

(with ~20-22 ambient),my loop has deltawater of 10 celsius when encoding in realbench @ 5100Mhz 1.55Volt and 1.4volt cpu/nb. eXtreme systems psu calculator shows that my 100% of TDP at that spec is 277 Watt.

HiVizMan
10-29-2013, 11:55 AM
yeah I have to set to ignore when benching at 7.8 all the time.

solaufein_gr
10-29-2013, 12:49 PM
Haha, i bet you run more than 1.6 volt more often than my pc :P

Ok i cannot improve more today. Hit some walls here and there, especially RB its still an unknown-land i feel. Nevermind. Here we go:

hexus piFast -- 26.08 sec
28887

ROG Realbench 1.1 -- 648 rbp
28881

superPi 4M -- 1 min 14.515 sec

lol Dart, I was testing my two cores chip, too. Why wasting power to useless cores for single threaded apps? Use the power to step up the clocks. Amazing numbers and amazing timmings. Well done :D

Dartmaul
10-29-2013, 09:19 PM
Well, since we need the same freq to be used for all tests, wprime was the limiting factor so I didn't get any benefit from disabling some cores.

By the way, I won 0.25 sec in wprime by thinning 2nd timings.
tWR 10 -> 8
tFAW 26 -> 22
tRFC 96 -> 78

nikosa43
10-29-2013, 09:48 PM
Dart I don't think we need the same clock for all runs. Isn't this free runs? I think that same clock goes for the rest of the challenge. But maybe I am wrong. We need to wake up Viz :D Your timmings are fantastic. With the two cores, you think I can tighten cl to 8? Damn, lots of things and zero time...

nikosa43
10-29-2013, 09:54 PM
I hope you are wrong about the same clock thing because now I am doing some 5300 runs for spi. In May Madness I had run wprime with 5200, but if you are right, then I am wasting my time because RB is the real limit and for me is about 5100 - 5200 :(

Henkenator68NL
10-29-2013, 09:57 PM
Love your timings Dart... So that CL8 you could get that to run with 2 active cores? I need to run them again with that method!!! Great numbers you got there!!

Arne Saknussemm
10-29-2013, 10:47 PM
There has never been a same clock rule for this challenge...only a cap....you are free to run whatever clocks you like under that cap....No cap is no cap...again run the clocks you like...but not until something goes pop!

A late night stability run,
pifast was stable but RB is never happy :D

Guys is you can see I use the same clocks (both CPU and MEM) and the same timings for all 3 benchmarks so it's not about 2 cores. wPrime with 6c12t was passed with the same mem settings.

I'm pretty sure that it was a rule about same clock, I had double checked it while benching Cine.
In any way, Ivy-E is not that CPU to be OCed under water.

PS All the applauds about mem timings go to Z, who've got me this RAM. G.Skill Pi off course.
PPS Nice freq Sola, you may be using less active cores in your case it may be helpful)

Er were do you get that idea from. No cap means no limits mate.

Newermind that was my mistake.
Actually, I spent most of the time messing around realbench. I get like 815 points but i'd like to push harder. In result I newer get above 800.
So when I bended over with RB it was already 4 hours beyond the moment I started benching and I was too tired. After that I had some BSOD fun with wprime. So when I finally made wprime run I just run SPi and PiFast in a row w\o any changes applied and that's it.

tho today its good here (το χω δαγκωσει, εχω αφησει τη μπαλκονοπορτα ανοιχτή μη καεί το πισακι, θα με φάει η γυναίκα) i can crank up some volt. Psu calculator estimates that 9370 has 301 watt TDP at the settings i'm running. haha

Well, the weather here, is a mess too. From 28, went down to 13 the next day. Stayed there for 4 days and then back to 24. It's like having hiccups. Sola, the wife parameter is the most important tweaking factor in these challenges. You have to be the greatest in between the challenges to buy credit points for the next one :D!

g'evening friend,
yup, that is obvious, for a time yesterday i was ready to remove the SB (another wasted block :sigh:) from the loop to gain a few degrees, i was desperate to keep it under 62-63 because the higher clocks were not achievable. heat wall? maybe ... but 3x120 at 2700rpm for some hours bleeded my ears.
Very "inconvenient" cpu this 9370 ... too much heat feels uncomfortable to overclock while ambient is high.

today i'm fiddling with some PSC (g.skill ripjawx) my good teammate send me (arrived just today). Hope it goes well, i like tight timings, i'm starting to become a memory-junkie ... good lord! ;)

You have done very well, and memory is the way to go if you want to be a bencher. Everything will ultimately come down to memory if you do not go LN2
