Hey all,

Does anyone have any suggestions for 'must have' software and/or hardware upgrades for a new G55vw owner running Win7?

I'm not super familiar with Linux yet - although that seems to be the OS of choice for a lot of people in my field.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Also, in addition to software, is it better to let a shop handle an RAM and hard disk upgrade? I'm not super comfortable with cracking open a brand new machine, but I feel like 8 GB might be limiting.

Anyone have any insight?

For me no mater what computer I'm on, I have the same basic programs installed. NIS, MS Office Pro, AutoCAD, Adobe CS, SnagIt, Roxio, I'm not a gamer but I do have the Witcher 2 installed trying to learn how to play it when I have time.

Totally using Linux. (VSIDO Velociraptor which can be had here; vsido.org) Best Linux laptop I've ever had! Hands down. Using the VSIDO distro, everything works OOTB except the kbd backlight which ends up being an easy fix with a quick google search.
