I see there is a dropdown option now for Windows 8.1 in the G750JX, JH, and JW Drivers download page since 5 days but it is empty and has no drivers

When is ASUS gonna give us the drivers I have Windows 8.1 Installed but I am hesistant to install drivers other than from ASUS

Im pretty sure you will be fine with Windows 8 drivers for windows 8.1. Service packs don't change the core of the OS.

I am hoping for today or tomorrow, considering the Windows 8.1 Update Release is supposed to be tomorrow :)

You could file an Asus Technical Inquiry asking for it, but asking now would likely get a response tomorrow... and well, you know.

you are wrong

Bluetooth Drivers for Atheros v 8.0.0.229 is NOT compatible with Windows 8.1, only v 8.0.0.230
Intel Chipset Drivers 9.4.0.1016 and 9.4.0.1017 is NOT compatible with Windows 8.1 only v 9.4.0.1026 and above is compatible
If you install MEI (Intel Management Engine Interface) version 9.XX your system will not boot upon the next restart! You need 9.5.XX to work or higher

so....you were saying?

Hmmm... So what happens when i update to 8.1 from Asus's 8 install?
hmscott:)??? Help?!

I never do updates so I can't tell, I always do clean insalls

That's when I discovered the current drivers are NOT compatible

Check this bro:

http://i40.tinypic.com/16liuly.png

That shows the current drivers have no Windows 8.1 support, only 9.4.0.1022 and above support Windows 8.1 for the Intel Chipset Drivers

The old MEI could render your laptop NOT bootable and FUBAR (google what FUBAR means)

I had to do another format after I installed the current MEI from the G750JX download page and I updated to MEI 9.5.13.1706 only then things were ok

Current Bluetooth Drivers will definitely not work! you need the 8.0.0.230 drivers

Nehmia , not to worry. :)

I have backups, and I have the original OEM disk for booting / cloning. And I have another SSD set aside to use should I need to build a parallel test.

If the Update works, I am done.

If it doesn't work well enough to use, then I boot on the OEM disk, clone, restore, and wait for drivers :)

I have all updated drivers, but I want them to be from the ASUS G750JX downloads page I would just feel better:

Intel Chipset Drivers 9.4.0.1027 (http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/DigitalHome/DAV/Driver/Chipset/Chipset_Intel_Win8_64_VER9401027.zip)

After you download the *.ZIP File, copy the folder you extracted to C:\ and rename the folder to chip.

Now, right click on the Windows 8.1 Start Menu button and choose Command Prompt (Admin)

Type CD\ then hit Enter

Type cd chip then hit Enter

Type setup.exe -overall -overide then hit Enter.

http://i41.tinypic.com/28a5bex.png

This command will install the full Intel Chipset Drivers not just the components that are missing. This is very essential.

Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver 12.8.0.1016 (http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/DriversForWin8/IRST/IRST_Intel_Win8_64_VER12801016.zip)

Intel Management Engine Interface 9.5.13.1706 (http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/DriversForWin8/MEI/MEI_Intel_15M_Win8_64_VER95131706.zip)

Atheros AR9485 WLAN Driver 10.0.0.263 (http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/DriversForWin8.1/WLAN/WLAN_QualcommAtheros_Win81_64_VER1000263.zip) (Unzip the folder, then manually browse to update the drivers through Device Manager)

Atheros AR8171 LAN Driver 2.1.0.21 (http://www.mediafire.com/?5h8r46epc3xo1zx)

Atheros Bluetooth Driver 8.0.1.306 (http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/DriversForWin8.1/Bluetooth/Bluetooth_QualcommAtheros_Win81_64_VER801306.zip)

Power4Gear Hybrid Utility 3.0.5 (http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/Apps_for_Win8/Power4GearHybrid/Power4GearHybrid_Win8_64_VER305.zip)

DeltaActual, I won't delete it, and if I do I will back it up to an external drive before deleting it. But, that is just me.

You can probably toss it unless you want to have it around to revert back to Windows 8 - if that is even possible. :)

But, for now, since we don't know what might be in there, I would wait a while.

It is a lot of stuff though...

Thanks for putting that list together Nehmia :)

I wouldn't get too hung up on limiting yourself to the Asus downloads for now during the 8.1 update - you can always go back and verify that Asus is supporting that version - or another newer version - after they start posting their 8.1 drivers for the G750's

As long as you get the driver from a OEM site, you should be ok. The vendors will get their drivers out first, and then the integrators/builders will push out their tested version. You can always roll back the driver and uninstall it if you have a problem. Keep around the previous version that was working just in case so you are ready to reinstall it should the new one fail.

LOL. Fools. Obviously drivers will work with 8.1, even microsoft aren't THAT dumb.

It is never foolish to be cautious. I don't want anyone to think I did this because I thought it would work - I did it to find out *if* it would work :)

Then the recovery process is one that I would have taken notes about, so I can help clients that get into trouble.

I wouldn't suggest anyone have done this like I did it, unless they are prepared to do a complete rebuild from backups, like I was ready to do.

From past experience I knew that vendor drivers, updated for 8.1, would be included in the Update - they would have to be in order for anyone to be successful in doing the update.

All the component makers helped Microsoft in the development and packaging for the rollout of Windows 8.1 :)

Etthernet, Wifi, and Bluetooth are working. I had to remove and re-pair my Sennheiser MM550's, but using them right now and it sounds great.

I had already installed the Windows 8.1 Realtek driver while still on Windows 8.0, and it is still showing that I am running .7040

28091

http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?38118-Sonic-Radar-Realtek-Audio-Driver-V6.0.1.7040-for-Windows-Win-8.1&p=318262&viewfull=1#post318262

That is as far as I have gotten on drivers, I am checking apps and other things now, I will get back to comparing driver versions - and use Nehmia's list to check versions - it looks like the Athereos driver I have is a couple of versions older than Nehmia lists, and there might be others.

But, I am doing work, streaming video, and have no stop the presses problems so far :)

There are a number of incompatible addon's disabled in IE...

28092

Virtualbox booted my Centos 5.5, 6.4, Ubuntu 12.10, and 13.04 VM's and are network connected and running fast.

Tried to use IE 11 to run the Intel Driver Update Utility, and had to update Java to 7u45 to get the test to run, but it wasn't successful.

28095

Then I tried Firefox 24.0, and Java worked fine.

28093

28094

http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect

The Java update site is really slow, it acts like it is getting hammered...

My WIndows 8.0 IE Flash addon got messed up a couple of weeks ago; it was a real nuisance that I couldn't just reinstall the Flash components for IE like I can for Firefox - the 8.1 Update reinstalled/fixed Flash (Macromedia addon), and that also fixed the Hulu Desktop app.

Had to reinstall the Classic Shell app (4.0), and all the settings were still there, except for enabling overriding the Start Menu => ran the "Start Menu Settings" app in the C:\Program Files\Classic Shell folder and checked the Replace Start Button option, and the Shell icon replaced the Start Icon.

http://www.classicshell.net/

28096

Had to reinstall 8GadgetPack, downloaded the latest version from August - for Windows 8.0, and it seems to be working fine - I have my gadgets back.

http://8gadgetpack.net/

I should mention that Norton Internet Security 2014 Beta is working great, and running LiveUpdate did 6 updates after the Windows 8.1 Update, and NIS didn't require a reboot after applying the 6 updates.

The Intel Extreme Tuning Tool maintained settings and didn't complain after coming up in Windows 8.1.

The Asus GPU Tweak Tool maintained settings and is also running fine.

Turned on BOINC for 100% CPU and 100% GPU runs, lets see how stable it is... :)

Just wanted to chime in - updated 8.0 Pro (custom clean install when I got the laptop) to 8.1 Pro. No issues whatsoever, all programs work fine, drivers are fine as well.

All in all this felt like a feature-rich service pack, rather than a new windows version. First time I change windows versions without doing a clean install, and oh boy, do I like not having to reinstall every single program I have.

Microsoft did a good job on making the update work flawlessly and painlessly.

Although, it took quite a while to complete, and it sat there a few times without a lot of feedback for 10 minutes or more. With a fast processor (4700HQ), fast storage (Samsung 840 Pro 512GB), and 12GB of memory I kinda expected it to be a little faster and less drama giving - sitting at 78% completed for 15 minutes was a bit unnerving - and then hanging on another 6 minutes at 79% done was a nice touch. :)

CpuScore 8.2

GamingScore 8.1
DiskScore 8.15

My Windows 8.0 scores were 7.7 System, 7.9 Memory, 7.9 CPU, 7.7 for both Graphics and Gaming, and 8.2 for Disk.

I don't know if this means Windows 8.1 is running things faster, or that the different system components are indexed at a different number for the same performance.

That's weird, I don't see them there. I am logged in at Asus, and refreshed the page, bounced to the other OS options and I see more files in those sections, but very little in the 8.1 x64 section:

I am seeing the same thing as hmscott. Have tried to reinstall Power4Gear Hybrid Utility, but every restart I'm encountered with an error saying it's just for ASUS systems. My system information doesn't even show the ASUS logo anymore. Sadly, even lost the ASUS screen saver that I liked.

I have the G750JW. My Sony MW600 bluetooth headset adapter didn't work after the Win 8.1 update, the device seemed to have been forgotten and didn't work even with removing and re-pairing and resetting the device itself. My version of the broadcom driver was V12.0.0.6951 or something like that, the latest on the Asus website was V12.0.0.6955 (nothing in the Windows 8.1 section). I tried just letting Windows search for a newer version, it installed V12.0.0.7820 and it seems fine again so far.

Haven't noticed any other issues so far with 8.1, not to say there might not be some!

Cool, guess they're busy adding things, they've added a new wireless driver too now to the 8.1 section. It seems quite a large download (175MB) vs whatever the Microsoft update did, which was quite quick, but I'll give it a go. Cheers.

The one driver missing, so far, is the Broadcom 802.11ac driver update.

I found the smallest version in the Asus Z87-DELUXE/QUAD Motherboard download area.

Version 6.30.223.143
Description
Wi-Fi Driver V6.30.223.143 for Windows 8.1 32bit.(Beta)
Wi-Fi Driver V6.30.223.143 for Windows 8.1 64bit.(WHQL)
File Size 16.36 MBytes update 2013/10/04

I updated from the Device Manager pointing to the unzip driver folder, and then ran the Setup and did a Repair and rebooted.

you are wrong

Bluetooth Drivers for Atheros v 8.0.0.229 is NOT compatible with Windows 8.1, only v 8.0.0.230
Intel Chipset Drivers 9.4.0.1016 and 9.4.0.1017 is NOT compatible with Windows 8.1 only v 9.4.0.1026 and above is compatible
If you install MEI (Intel Management Engine Interface) version 9.XX your system will not boot upon the next restart! You need 9.5.XX to work or higher

so....you were saying?

Sorry to prove YOU wrong.. Typing this on a bluetooth keyboard I just sync'd.. You were saying? :)

I had the same problem. I went with the Windows 8.0 installed Broadcom Bluetooth driver, and the Windows 8.1 update "fixed it" by showing I had the old Broadcom driver, but actually also loaded, and was using, the generic Windows Bluetooth driver.

After I installed the Broadcom Bluetooth driver Asus just posted, now it really is using the Broadcom driver.

Asus just posted a new Windows 8.1 Athereos Bluetooth driver too:

MIcrosoft covered the problem by making generic drivers to handle the function, but they aren't what you should live with long term.

It is a bit of a catch-22, you can't install the Windows 8.1 drivers under Windows 8.0, you need to be running Windows 8.1 - and to bridge that gap Microsoft provides the generic drivers, and Microsoft can install a vendor driver if one exists.

Now that Asus is uploading the Windows 8.1 drivers, it is best to take the time to install them.

ASUS are really falling behind schedule with these drivers, they had all the time in the world to prepare them, back when the Windows 8.1 preview started they should've updated them, then the RTM hit last month, still no updates, now they start to work after it's already released! WOW! GREAT!

not all of them, and that is exactly why ASUS made a separate section in the drivers download page of each and every one of their laptops that says Windows 8, and then Windows 8.1, you think you know better than ASUS? Just because you don't immediately notice a problem doesn't make them compatible

Just to make sure I am doing this the right way.
After the 8.1 update, should I go to Asus website and download every single driver for Windows 8.1 and install, or is there some Asus automatic tool which does this operation?
I've got Asus LiveUpdate, which came with my G750JH, but it has always said everything is up to date so far, so I really never got a chance to see if it actually finds drivers or anything. It did not find the new nVidia driver anyway, so I do not know what that utility is used for.
Thanks!

Cool, guess they're busy adding things, they've added a new wireless driver too now to the 8.1 section. It seems quite a large download (175MB) vs whatever the Microsoft update did, which was quite quick, but I'll give it a go. Cheers.

uekiyasan, have you been able to install the Broadcom BT driver V12.0.0.7900? I unzipped the downloaded file, ran setup, and rebooted when prompted. When I check the driver version, I still have V12.0.0.7820 (vs 7900). I disabled the driver under device manager and ran setup again but still have 7820. I also uninstalled the driver under device manager and ran setup. Still remains on 7820. It may not be a big deal since my BT devices are able to connect and work as before. I'm just frustrated that I can't get it 7900 installed.

how do j00 check?

Run a graphics benchmark, like fuirmark, while running Asus GPU Tweak tool to monitor the GPU frequency - after furmark has been running for say 25% of the test, unplug the AC so the laptop is on battery, let it run another 25% and plug the AC back in. Then stop the fuirmark and look at the graph for GPU frequency and look at the high and low values.

New driver posted today by ASUS for laptops:

Intel Chipset Drivers 9.4.0.1027 (http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/DigitalHome/DAV/Driver/Chipset/Chipset_Intel_Win8_64_VER9401027.zip)

After you download the *.ZIP File, copy the folder you extracted to C:\ and rename the folder to chip.

Now, right click on the Windows 8.1 Start Menu button and choose Command Prompt (Admin)

Type CD\ then hit Enter

Type cd chip then hit Enter

Type setup.exe -overall -overide then hit Enter.

http://i41.tinypic.com/28a5bex.png

This command will install the full Intel Chipset Drivers not just the components that are missing. This is very essential.

I did as you instructed for version 1026. When I checked installed version in Device Manager and it showed 1025. I came back to this thread to check if I did anything wrong. Then I saw version 1027 and followed your instructions again. At the end of the installation process, it said it installed version 1025. When I checked in Device Manager, it shows 1023! Can you please check what version you have on your computer? Do I need to disable the driver first?....Uninstall it first? I'm afraid to do either. BTW, I restarted my computer before checking after the install.

that's right man, don't worry, when we say version 9.4.0.1027, that doesn't mean all those files are compatible with your specific computer, it means most the files are of those version but if you noticed during the install process, it actually installs a bit older versions which are 1023 and 1025

Anything above 1022 is compatible with Windows 8.1

Another example:

If you install the Intel Chipset Drivers in the G750JX download page, it is 9.4.0.1016 but it installs a bit older things like 1013 as well

The Intel Chipset Driver in the G750JH which are 9.4.0.1017, those actually install 1017 for all components

Don't worry, the installer knows what its doing and what it's installing for the found components on your laptop

Thanks for the fast response, bro. You put my OCD mind at rest. BTW, is this the same thing that happens when I update the Broadcom BT driver V12.0.0.7900 (vs 7820)?

I am just like you bro

I don't know about the Broadcom because my laptop ha the Atheros Chipset but it shouldn't be the same, it should actually state the new version of your driver

if it didn't, what I would is is uninstall the driver from control panel, then reboot

then install the new driver, then reboot

if that also doesn't work, go to device manager, right click on the bluetooth device, properties, update driver, and browse to the folder of the driver some of them have the inf files there so you will force it to update

hmscott i have a question when you update to win 8.1 do you lose the rog logo came when you turn on the pc?

fhurer, yes I get the Asus ROG silver/red swoosh logo + Republic of Gamers still shot while the swirly circle of dots briefly spins (have an SSD boot) after updating to 8.1.

The only problem I have noticed after the 8.1 Update is:

The SSD settings to turn off Indexing/Prefetch/Superfetch were reset to on/default - I used Samsung Magician to check/reset the options.

http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?38703-warning!-jh-and-raid-owners-watch-your-ssd-after-8.1-update&p=324758&viewfull=1#post324758

Otherwise everything is running aok.

You can check your Windows log files to see what is running / complaining (errors) during boot. Right click on the System Icon on the desktop and select Manage. Then go to the Event log section and the System log to view your start up log entries.

Do you have an SSD, or the original HD as the boot device?

Do you have Hibernation enabled, paging enabled, both take time to rebuild at boot under certain circumstances - I disable both.

Prefetch and Superfetch also run at start - and after a large update will need to rebuild to "speed up boot". I disable both because I have an SSD boot drive - but after the Windows 8.1 update both were re-nabled so I disabled them both again.

It shouldn't be a driver related issue if after boot everything is as normal performance wise. But, if the logs are complaining about anything, follow up on it to resolve.

Let us know what you find.

uekiyasan, have you been able to install the Broadcom BT driver V12.0.0.7900? I unzipped the downloaded file, ran setup, and rebooted when prompted. When I check the driver version, I still have V12.0.0.7820 (vs 7900). I disabled the driver under device manager and ran setup again but still have 7820. I also uninstalled the driver under device manager and ran setup. Still remains on 7820. It may not be a big deal since my BT devices are able to connect and work as before. I'm just frustrated that I can't get it 7900 installed.

Just to follow up from my previous reply, I have found this 8.1 listed driver seemingly not working as well with my Sony MW600 headset as the original driver. I also tried uninstalling the driver from device manager, rebooting and reinstalling, and it still says 7820. It seems to not always reconnect easily, eg after it goes out of range, even if it says it's still connected, and I have to switch the headset on and off, or remove and re-pair it etc. I didn't notice these kinds of issues with the original pre 8.1 driver. Hopefully something better in the works.

I show the same amount and sizes as you, both the 900mb and 350mb recovery were added after win 8.1 upgrade, not sure why ! I did a win 7 backup image and recovery disk from 8.1, hopefully will never have to find out if it works.

Uekiyasan, thanks for the update. You have probably done this already but have you tried to go back to the original pre 8.1 driver? Unlike you, my BT headset (LG HBS-700) has no connection, reconnection, dropping problems. Unfortunately, that version is not available at BB anymore. The current version (LG HBS-730) is available ($70) but they will price match Amazon (currently $42.40). Beware that when the 730 first came out, some were complaining of connection issues. However, the latest reviews on Amazon and BB seem good (ie they seem to have fixed this). The problem with your Sony MW600 may be the version of BT? I can't find the version of BT on the 700 or the 730 nor on the G750. I assume that the Asus G750 has BT version 4.0 (newest computer with newest BT version)? The HBS700 lasts a very long time on one charge. I read somewhere that the closer the versions of BT, the more compatible. BTW, I don't mean to hijack this thread and talk about different BT headphones. I'm just trying to offer solutions to your problem.

When is ASUS gonna give us the drivers I have Windows 8.1 Installed but I am hesistant to install drivers other than from ASUS

After two weeks of problems and many hours with tech $upport I think we need Windows 7 drivers, not 8.1
MSI has the right idea, we want to game, not beta test the OS. Keep 8 off the ROG series til it works.
If you think 8.1 is working check the Win8 forums, especially networking with XP and 7 machines

I updated to 8.1

There are obvious issues right after. Most notably the subtle black and grey lines which I haven't has since I updated Nvidia back in windows 8.0. Also some of my Start(Apps) Shortcuts pathways are no longer valid. The icons, for example, Battlefield 3 will be a general exe icon and will not initiate anything as the pathways is no longer valid. I can open it through its file in programs/BF3.

Also Wifi randomly goes to limited after the update. I have reinstalled the Wifi adapter driver, but still acts up time to time.

Also, Asus Install is no longer on the computer after install. I have no idea why. And eSupport file is gone.

All in all fairly messy after the install.

Lots of new 8.1 drivers up now, at least for G750JW :) The bluetooth driver they added was a bit strange, it was a lower number version than the previously posted 8.1 driver; Version V12.0.0.7800 instead of Version V12.0.0.7900. I wasn't able to install it as it said there was a newer version installed. If I uninstalled and "delete software" or whatever the check box says in device manager, when I restart it just installs the same driver again automatically. Anyway, bluetooth is ok for me, maybe still not quite as good as the original Win 8 driver (which didn't work with 8.1) but ok. Everything else seems fine so far.

true, their numbering is messed up they post older drivers instead of newer ones. same with the intel wifi wlan driver
