Hello All -

Up until the last year I was a pretty heavy laptop user due to travel. I do not travel as much anymore and my laptop tends to get neglected versus a tablet or desktop.I decided to show the G46 some love by swapping the hard drive and quitting my dual boot and go full Mint.

1. HDD: Seagate Solid State Hybrid - ST1000LM014
--> I was looking for a better boot time but not give up on storage capabilities. After installation of the SSHD and LMDE, I rebooted 4x consecutively and watched the boot times decrease significantly. I would say the reboot times are just slightly behind an SSD but read/write and non-repetitive tasks are on par with a 5400rpm drive. Overall, I am satisfied with the purchase.

2. Linux Mint 15 (Olivia): http://linuxmint.com
--> I have been a fan of Mint for awhile now. It's a very easy, straightforward OS to use. It gives the Linux experience in a very friendly format. Outside of Mint, I run two dedicated Ubuntu Servers (1x media server/back-up device and 1x CCTV/Remote Video server).

The hard drive install was very straight-forward. I queued up the YouTube dis-assembly video and walked through it in about 20 minutes. I tested that the terminal would boot up before putting it back together and was good-to-go. I then installed Mint via bootable USB drive and had the OS launched within another 10 minutes.

To get the best use out of the 660M, I installed Bumblebee (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bumblebee#Installation) which takes advantage of the nVidia Optimus technology.
