Hi guys,

Just needed some pointers, here's the story so far:

I've been using my G75VW (which came installed with Windows 8 64-bit by default) for a while now with no issues, and just recently bought a SSD for it. Now, I want to do a clean install of Windows 8, rather than cloning/disk imaging so I can start over with a fresh system, all the data I need is already backed up.

Two things that seem tricky right now:

1. How do I get the Windows 8 license key, as I don't seem to have a Windows sticker anywhere on my laptop with this info, and I can't find the Asus utility that allowed you to check this? (I know I'm not imagining this, and there used to be a page with this tool after you register your laptop)

2. Can I use a vanilla Windows 8 image from Microsoft, or will it give me a license key not valid error (assuming I somehow solve the first question) later on since it's an OEM key, and not vanilla Windows?

Any input/guide on this would be appreciated, thanks :)

And just after posting this I see a thread with almost the same question, answered by rewben >.< Reading through it right now!

hi @echineko,

1. check this out (http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?39158-Need-help-with-G75vw-clean-install-of-WIN8-no-disk&p=331212&viewfull=1#post331212).

2. firstly determine the windows edition using slmgr /dlv. the key can only work if the windows edition matches with your w8 image. some notes can be found here (http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?28758-GUIDE-G55-G75-Upgrade-Notes).

edit: ah you saw that :) ok.

Once you have extracted your win 8 Key, go to Microsoft store and download the 8.1 ISO, Save you time doing it later. Its a free upgrade for win 8 user. Clean Install is the same for 8.1 as for 8 in rewben notes.
