View Full Version : Clean Install: Finding an Official Windows 8.1 OEM ISO

As the title goes, I have the following questions:

1) Where can I find an OFFICIAL Windows 8.1 OEM ISO Single Language edition that will accept my OEM product key? I heard such an ISO can be found on MSDN and have found this link (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/downloads/#searchTerm=Windows%208.1%20x64&ProductFamilyId=0&Languages=en&PageSize=100&PageIndex=0&FileId=0), however none of those listed seem to be OEM editions.

2) What keys do I need to do a clean install? I heard you need one key to install the OS, and another to activate it. I have acquired the latter via RWEverything. It is the former key I am interested in.

Basically what i'm asking for is precise instructions of what official ISO to install, and where to get it from as well as any other info such as extra product keys that I need to know about pertaining a clean (reformat) installation of windows 8.1.

I was half way through making a thread about the exact same question. Any help would be appreciated.

This (http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/windows-and-office/get-the-iso-you-need-to-create-your-own-windows-81-dvd/) link helps for upgrading from windows 8 to windows 8.1 but I'd like to know how to do a fresh installation of windows 8.1.

@OP sorry about the thread hijack.

Windows 8 Single Language System is distributed by OEM sales channels.

U can find following original MS images. I didn't post links. Google it.

P.S. U can also download this original MS images if u're MSDN subscriber.

P.P.S. U can also use MICROSOFT.WINBLUE_RTM.CLIENT-SERVER_LEGENDARY.PIDXCHK.TOOL-WZT
Legendary pidXchk tool for WINBLUE_RTM 9600.16384.130821-1623
Paste serial number into tool and check if your serial number is valid/invalid and also the crypto ID of your serial number. If your crypto ID is around 17XX, or your serial number is invalid for 8.1 than you will not be able to install 8.1 with that serial number. 8.1 RTM accepts serial numbers with crypto ID around 2600.

On my G750JW I had Windows 8 Core as preinstalled system.

@OP sorry about the thread hijack. No problem. I found an excellent, no assumptions made guide on another website, the mention of which, for some reason, seems to be banned in these forums. If this is true, I find it very disturbing on the part of whoever is making this decision as they are effectively preventing people from getting the critical information that they need and are fully entitled to.

@Fuchs - thanks for the search suggestions, but as mentioned in the previous paragraph, I have successfully made a fresh install using a different guide.

You can go here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-product-key-only

Once you enter in your product key it finds the appropriate ISO.

i tried updating to 8.1 from 8, it was ok for te first time. But when i open some of the important app that i use for work like Matrix, 3ds Max...it had some problem.

Is 8.1 more stable than 8?

thanks

Some forums are too strict with what may and may not be posted. Would you mind PM'ing me the link?
Have you done the clean installation successfully? There seems to be a bit of confusion with upgrade vs clean installation ISO's and did all of the drivers work?

Use the link Nehmia just posted and you will see a thread titled "ASUS G750JW Windows 8.1 clean install guide". I followed that guide to the T (without opening up the case to remove my HDD as I only have the latter). All the links in that guide point to valid / non-cracked files. Worked like a gem.

When you do installation from a downloaded ISO, the builtin BIOS key may not work during setup. This is expected. Instead, you use a generic key:

334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT for Core/Home/OEM (Asus win8 version is this type)
XHQ8N-C3MCJ-RQXB6-WCHYG-C9WKB for Professional

to get through the installation. Afterwards, you should be able to use your builtin key and activate.

To mods - this is not illegal, these are well known keys that don't activate WIndows and are used for installation purposes only. They are embedded in Windows itself as a placeholder default key and do not let you activate.

I need a download link for a working ISO for Windows 8.

My computer came with Windows 8. Will my key work with 8.1 installer? If so I'd rather get 8.1 then.

I notice you need to use Single Language only.

Can anyone provide a trustful link, which I'm able to easily burn onto a disk and stow it away for safe keeping just in case?

Finding a great post, there's apparently two different ISO's.

One is a Single Language ISO, the other is specialised for Core / Pro

How will I know which is the one I need? I've downloaded them both, waiting to know what to put on the disk.

You can use the official Microsoft MSDN Windows 8.1 ISO. For install use the generic key. After install use your embedded key from uefi

Generic Key Windows 8.1 Core: 334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT
Generic Key Windows 8.1 Pro: XHQ8N-C3MCJ-RQXB6-WCHYG-C9WKB

These keys won't work for Single Language editions. You need these:
CoreSingleLanguage=Y9NXP-XT8MV-PT9TG-97CT3-9D6TC
gvlkCoreSingleLanguage=BB6NG-PQ82V-VRDPW-8XVD2-V8P66
