View Full Version : G53SW won't show Ethernet Cable connected ?

I have tried all of the usual techniques ...clean install, uninstalling & reinstalling drivers, but for the life of me I can't get my G53sw to register when I plug an Ethernet cable into it. It has all of the newest drivers installed, I have checked to make sure the pins aren't damaged and still nothing.

I know its not the cable because I unplug the working connection from my G55vw and plug it straight into the G53sw and nothing.

Any other ideas on how I could remedy this issue ...I have kind of hit at road block at this point ?

Get in command prompt and type ipconfig /all

Post what it says.

Have you tried booting a linux key, and seeing if that doesn't work? Because if that doesn't, I would guess that you have a failed ethernet port/controller.

I haven't tried a Linux key (honestly I don't have any experience with Linux). Is it possible to replace the existing Ethernet port/controller in a device like this? I have no issue changing the RAM, HDD or WIFI I just didn't know if the Ethernet was replaceable.

What does the device manager say about your network adapters? Does it say the ethernet controller is present and working correctly?

...it was the cable.

Why it works in my G55vw and didn't in the G53sw I have no idea. Thanks for all of the help and sorry for the trouble.

That almost certainly means it was either a break in the cable that closed/opened based upon position, or a slightly bent wire in the end, that the difference in port design made obvious. Glad it was cheap to resolve! :)
