View Full Version : Can you swap the motherboards between the G73JH and G74SX?

Friend of mine just got the G74 and prefers the 5870 over the 560m for various reasons. Well, I prefer the 560m because of the better framerates on specific games I play, so we agreed on a fair trade. However, the chassis' seems different between them and was wondering if anyone knew if the motherboards would swap between the two?

A lot of if there, that an asus engineer could answer in a second..

That said, If I had a bad laptop MB and got another, same manufac. with
a bad screen or something...
The first thing I would do, is flip it to see if the screws match..if they dont
your probably done already.
Then Id look at the inputs..match? no? done.
You said the chassis is different, how?
one is 17 and the other 15..your done.
DVD is on the other side...done.
Then if all that is a go..it still is iffy in the cabl'ing
inside.........I'd guess...NO.
But if you are determined,,haha..anything is possible

Good luck getting everything to line up correctly with the G74's cooling so your GPU and CPU get proper cooling.

My understanding is that the two machines are laid out differently. You would not be able to swap them.

Yeah, the heatpipes wouldn't line up properly with the different chassis. A G73JH and G73SW would be a better match. Why not just swap whole machines?

why are they talking about swapping the boards. why not simply swap the video cards?
