View Full Version : G74 strange issues?

09-09-2011, 06:57 PM
I recently got a Asus G74 but it seems to have some issues allready :\

First for me is that the only fn keys that work for me is the fn+f1 for sleepmode and fn+f5-6 for the screen while everything else is innactive. So im unable to turn on the keyboard lighting or change the sound while gaming.

The 2nd issue i got seems to be that my windows explorer.exe crashes when i try to enter my computer. this seems to happen randomly and once it gave me the message thatmy computer dont have enough memory to run explorer.exe:(

Any one here knows how to fix these issues?

Reinstall to factory is easy as pie. Reboot and push F8 during boot I think. It's all over the net how to reinstall an asus laptop to out of box state. Google it or look on forums here for detailed procedure. Remember there are risks, but the slick brand new feel is worth it I think. The method used for most asus laptops should apply to our G74 as well. Have fun and hope everything works fine after a clean install. It takes a,while so grab a beer!

Reboot and hit F9 to do the factory install ;)

Ok thanks. But as i mentioned earlier the explorer.exe problem seems to be fixed.

And with the keyboard thing i'll think i just ned reinstall its driver.

Only problem then... i dont know the driver name, or atleas i cant seem to find the driver on the asus webpage. :\

There are 2 parts:

Keyboard Filter 1.0003
ATK Package 1.0.000010

Just setting up a new Asus G74 and had the same issue where windows explorer kept crashing, restarting, crashing. Tried all the "windows" fixes and then started looking for Asus specific fixes. The one that worked for me (found elsewhere, but remembered this thread) was uninstalling "asus web storage" (which I was never going to use anyway). All working fine now.

go to the asus website, in the support section they have a area where you can tell them what model laptop you have. select win7 64-bit, blah blah blah.

they'll have a list of drivers you can download. alternatively you can grab the driver disc that came with your laptop.

you're missing the ATK drivers (i think there's a few of them)

It was the same problems with explorer.exe+web storage after i reinstall OS from recovery disks.
This problems means that you should disable or add smth to context menu. In this case - webstorage-
to disable i used ShellExView.exe, problems gone. Also i reinstalled webstorage-the same result.
ShellExView.exe just to search app with trouble: on/off item and see is it ok now.

if i'm not mistaken i saw that a new nvidia driver release is supposed to fix the hdmi sound thing.

from all the posts i have concluded that the asus g74 was a failure, plauged by faulty hardware and faulty software. i think that anyone who has these sorts of problems with the laptop should kindly return it, and choose a different laptop.

i feel that asus rushed these for whatever reason and that the problem is ultimately a result of that. the only other possible explanation is that every person who posts a problem about their g74, is stupid, and since i doubt that very much, the laptop is garbage and should never have been produced.

Im not saying that the laptop is bad but it is faulty...
The cooling system is fantastic and so far ive had no issue with ither the sound or graphics.
It is also easly to upgrade Ram and Storage space since those are easly located.

But none the less the keyboard is buggy and the software is faulty something that they should have adressed before the released the product...

None the less i got 2 Year Guarantee so if a bug casues the laptop to fail i should get a free repair due to producer error.
