View Full Version : G75vw external monitor problem

I have a G75vw, and i bought a Benq xl2411T, and i connect them via MinidisplayPort to DVI-I, and then dual link DVI-D from the adapter to the Benq.

The problem is: i cant output 120hz from the benq monitor, it only shows 60hz/75hz in all resolutions and 120hz only in 800x600

I have all drivers ( Benq and Nvidia ) and i have the correct adapter/DVI cables (i think)

Here are the adapter and cable that i use:

Mini DP to DVI-I : http://www.fnac.pt/Belkin-Adaptador-Mini-DisplayPort-DVI-Cabo-Informatica-Outros-Cabos/a681157

DVI-D cable that i use: http://store.apple.com/us/product/HB086LL/A/belkin-dvi-d-dual-link-cable

The Adapter really needs to be DVI-D ? or it can be DVI-I ?

What is the problem ? can someone help me ?

Your issue is related to the Mini DP to DVI adapter. In order to run at 120Hz @ 1080p with this kind of adapter, it needs to be USB powered since your BenQ model of panel doesn't have DP input.

And where can i get one of these ? can you provide a link please ?

And how do i connect that ? i need to connect the miniDP and the usb ? or only the usb ?

You can try eBay and local shops as well for a similar product.

You connect both the USB and the mini DP, yes. Then you use your DVI cable from there.

Hm ok thx. You sure that will work ?

You can even do some Google searches of your own to confirm it for yourself.

The adapter (usb and minidp) just plugs into your notebook and then you connect your DVI cable from the adapter to your display.

It's because of your setup that requires this option to support 120Hz. Your display does not have a DP input, and your G75 does not have any DVI outputs. So your only 2 options are either buy a different monitor that has native DP inputs or buy an "active" miniDP to DVI adapter; "active" means actively converting. Passive or pass-through adapters are not "active" and are used to convert connection types, not their signals.
