View Full Version : Windows 8.1 Upgrade/Fresh Install thread for G75VW

Hi All,

I did a lot of digging and there doesn't seem to be a collective place to get all the info to get the G75VW series notebooks properly running on Windows 8.1

I have a fresh install on an SSD running fairly well, but am running into issues such as Wifi Disconnects and the inability to use the wifi radio Fn Hotkey.

Can we start a definitive list of what software versions/orders work, recommended drivers, etc? I love this G75VW but getting it to run Windows 8.1 is way harder than it should be for this new of a notebook.

Your referencing 2 very different NB here G74VX and G75VW, the G75VW works fine on 8.1 I have no Idea about the G73.
The G75 has 8.1 drivers for WiFi and Bluetooth (http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=G75VW&p=3&s=388). My BIOS is still on 210

Sorry Clint, typing the post too fast last night. I did indeed mean to reference the G75VW. I do have it running but the issues I currently have are:

Wifi Disconnects when using the latest driver : V10.0.0.263 Qualcomm Atheros Wireless Lan Driver and Application

Hibernation does not seem to work. It drops to a black screen and never fully hibernates

The Fn + F2 key combo does not work to turn wifi on-off. I have the latest ATK package installed, version 100031. Attempting to install the Wireless Radio Control 1001 results in a cryptic error on install.

Everything else seems to work well with the drivers I have found, however the ATK package does not seem to have the on screen notifications as it did in Win7.

Hope this clears it up!

No problem. I clean installed and have no issues, I upgraded from 7 HP to 8.1 Pro with my $14.95 upgrade. After reading your post last evening I found that also my FN F2 does not work. I no longer get the wireless manager to come up. I installed the latest Bluetooth drivers and have an Icon in task bar hidden
I believe that with 8 and 8.1 Hybrid shut down replaces Hibernation? every time you shut down you are really only basically Hibernating? That's how the get the really fast boot times!
Asus put out special win 8.1 driver for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It appears that we lost the wireless manager that used to come up FN F2
Also the ROG power management now only has two options.
All the drivers I'm using are from the Asus Support Download. For the G75VW OS 8.1 and 8.0
Except for the Graphic Drivers which are the latest from NVidia. Chipset drivers newest from Intel, also latest IME, IRST
If you weren't having Wi-Fi issues before the 8.1 install? Then you could try reinstalling that diver with the one Asus site!

We don't recommend you use that website. ex-member here has had repeat bans. Anyone promoting said website is now on our watch ;) Please don't link to it.

I wonder why the mods here insist on not linking to that website when I find it the most useful and always has updated driver with links from ASUS themselves and all legal ISOs

Hmm wonder if the requests for donations on that site has anything to do with it, er yes it does.

not trying to defend that website but I think it's perfectly fine if someone puts a donation link for their hard work. At the end of the day, donations are optional, the site doesn't ask for the donation to reveal the content. The content is publicly available for everyone and the saie doesn't have a single AD if you notice. just noting

I will not repeat the history but after multiple requests, said user has been banned multiple times and is a very large irritation to us. Nehmia I have been through all your old posts and deleted all references to that forum. We are now watching you.

> Your IP is from the same area (although does not match) said previously banned person.
> Your registered email address is from a disposable domain. Why? It's very irregular here.
> You hide the links behind shorturls.
> You are super defensive about the page.

Final warning - you're welcome to stay and help, but if we find another link to that forum again, you're gone. ;)
