Hi all,

After much surveying on decent gaming laptops, I have decided to get ASUS ROG G750 laptop. In my country only 1 model available, which is G750JX, and it comes with 1TB 5400RPM HDD and 8GB RAM. For me, these RAM and storage configurations are not that attractive, although they are upgradable with extra cost.

While doing surveying, I come to know that the next G750 refresh are JZ (GTX880M) and JS (GTX870M). I do not know when they will be available at the moment.

So, I like you guys opinion: Should I delay my purchase on G750JX OR wait until the new G750JS launched in my country?

You could be waiting for no less than 8 months buddy. Get it now

BTW, MY G750JX has a 3D screen 120 Hz. + 256 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD + 24 GB RAM from the factory

I upgraded the RAM to 32 GB in order to have Dual Channel mode across all channels

So there are difference configurations of the G750JX the one you mentioned is the worst one of them all

Might not be so accurate. Though I wouldn't wait for the 800m series. As far as I can see it's just a rebrand if anything. If it was something major then I'd wait.

Make sure you wait for a sale on this laptop though. Don't pay more than what it's worth, which is around 1800 USD.

Yes, the RAM and storage specs are the worst one, yet it is the only one available in our country, so sad.

Hi, 1,800 USD is for what RAM and storage configurations? As I said, the one available here only has 8GB RAM and 1TB HDD, and it cost roughly 1690 USD.

That's somewhat high for that config if you ask me. Where do you live?

Malaysia. Local standard retail price is RM 5,600 (approx. 1690 USD) for the 1TB HDD/8GB RAM config. So it seems price is rather high?

If I get this one now, I still have to fork out extra cash to upgrade to 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD.

Whoa, that's really damn expensive for the config mentioned. I think that you need to spend at least additional 200 USD for SSD and RAM Upgrade. I gt mine for 1450 USD with 16 gigs of RAM and 1 TB + 256 SSD and non 3D. That's the best deal in my life and that too from Amazon :)

I guess the price in Malaysia so damn expensive is most likely due to government duty tax.

So back to original question, should I wait for refresh or buy it now. I like to hear opinions from more people.

From the comparison link posted above, 870M looks like a considerable upgrade over the 770M but the issue is not knowing when it'll be relased. As mentioned it could even take months. If you're not in need of a notebook immediately, then certainly you can wait. But do remember, in your country it may be even more expensive than the present one :)

Aren't Malaysian keyboard layouts the same as English (US)?
If so, just buy a better one for cheaper at amazon or such?

I wouldn't wait if you are already wanting a new laptop right now, by the time the new model is available it will even take longer for it to be available in ur country. same way as movie release dates.

That's the one I got, got 1800 USD ($2000AUD worth. Though I live in Aus. What's funny was it was discounted 20%. (Was $2,500)

Knowing Asus, we should have JZ/JS available by June . I would wait.

Edit: On the other hand, 870M will have no more then 10% speed boost over 770M. Is it worth it? Up to you.

To be honest I am more inclined to wait. My wishful thinking is that the refresh model in 2014 by default will come with SSD + HDD and 16GB RAM. Then, the higher price will be justified.

Amazon package doesn't include backpack, mouse and headset like our local package does. So, it's give and take. I am actually not in urgent need of a laptop, just pondering the best timing and best bang for buck for my purchase.

If ASUS announces JZ/JS by June, Malaysia maybe will got it by Sept/Oct. But, no one knows for sure. Well, I am not in desperate need of a new laptop, so I won't reject 10% performance increment. But if I got a superb deal to purchase JX now, I might change my mind.

Why june ? Other brands are gonna release it in feb 2014 so why asus would let them eat some market parts :) ?

You have to base your decision on what is sufficient to meet your needs, and how soon you need something.

There will always be a newer, faster, better model coming.

only 10% ??? i donīt think so.
the GTX 870m is rumored to have

Memory bus 256 bit
1344 shading units

http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-870M-vs-GeForce-GTX-770M

the G750JS will use the thicker case like the JH version. this would confirm the powerful specification of the 870m

I don't know German, but the link you provided already allows pre-order or something?
