Welcome to the forum

Download windows updates, install a game or two and start enjoying the new toy. Lucky you, I am still saving up for a G series myself

What case/sleeve will fit the g74sx

you'll have to look around as it is a big, unorthodox, laptop. i'd recommend a Targus Messenger (Citygear XL). or maybe thinkgeek's bag of holding.

Yes, you want to use the thermal pads. Paste is not really the same for that application. It's harder to keep in place and it doesn't have the same thickness. I doubt they will really pay much attention to this or care. Usually what will happen is that you have an RMA and if they find that user servicing caused a problem they will push back. If there is just a faulty piece of hardware and you left everything the way you found it then I would not worry.

Did you take the pretty yellow sticker off the CPU?

I unscrew the screw under the yellow

If you broke a warranty seal then yes you voided it. ASUS may still choose to service your machine but that's entirely at their discretion now.

Targus bag works GREAT IMHO, that's the bag I decided to go with, have not seen thinkgeek's bag in person so I can't comment on that one.

it's usually recommended to do that once the warranty is expired, not the day after you buy it.

Yeah, don't fix something until it's broken... especially when you have to take the whole damn thing apart.
