Hi there

I checked Asus's site and they have a max of 16GB for the G73SW, but is that a max due to the MB or because it ships with Win7 Home Premium? I upgraded the OS to Ultimate, which will support up to 192GB, so I'm just wondering. Thanks.

Hi,

Actually looks like it's related to the cpu on this model since it appears the memory controller is part of these cpus instead of the chipset.

If you want to check Intel's website for the Intel® Core™ i7 2630QM specs, it's listing 16Gb max memory size for that cpu:
http://ark.intel.com/products/52219

If you want to check the details for the Intel® HM65 Express Chipset, Intel's website has a block diagram indicating that the cpu interfaces directly with the memory:
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/chipsets/value-chipsets/mobile-chipset-hm65.html

Finally, if you didn't already know or try it, there should be some old forum articles about memory upgrades on the G73SW if you want to search for them.

Hope this helps to answer your question!

Hi,

I want to upgrade my ram to 16GB (from 8) so I was wondering... Since when I open up my laptop in the back there are no modules installed and 2 slots, what kind of ram should I get?

Are there also any better RAM modules than others?

Thank you!
