I have a G73jh.I loaded yesterday first 11.8 and i could use maximum resolution in 1400*xxx than i removed that and tried again with 11.8 and 11.7 but nothing changed. Till tomorrow i had no problem. Than i updated driver on Windows device manager but know Cataliyst doesnt work. Can anyone tell me whats the solution and which driver is the best for Ati Mobility Radeon 5870?

I do not have any experience with the ATI Mobility Radeon 5870 or the G73JH, but if I were having trouble with Catalyst and needed to choose a driver, I would go to this thread:
http://www.asusrog.com/forums/showthread.php?1150-G73-74-53-Series-Driver-and-Application-Reference

In it there is:
Video System:
[JH] AMD Catalyst WHQL : 11.08 (08/17/11)

That is the one I would choose. I would then uninstall my current driver, reboot, sweep for any AMD video driver files, install this 11.08 version, and reboot. If problems persisted, I would contact Chastity or another ASUS rep on this forum and explain your issue.

Hi,

I would do the same as dstrakele saying, clear your system for all AMD (ATI) video drivers, reboot, and then download the drivers on Asus own support site (http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=G73Jh&p=3&s=252) before you install the newest drivers from AMD (http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx#1). :)

1) Uninstall your current AMD drivers, reboot.

2) Download and run ATI Crap Cleaner

3) Install 11.9 WHQL

Alright, Here we go. Chastity's modified process:

1) Uninstall your current AMD drivers

1A) Uninstall again from Device manager this time checking the delete files box

2) Download ATI Crap Cleaner and / or DriverSweeper ( google it for quick download )

http://pcaudio.ath.cx/stuff/ATI%20Crap%20Cleaner.zip

2A) Reboot in safe mode, again uninstall your video card software via Device manager checking the delete files box.

2B) run ATI Crap Cleaner with administrator rights / run driver sweeper and reboot

Now you should have a clean slate to install anything you need.

Download one of the drivers listed here:

3) Install 11.9 WHQL

http://www2.ati.com/DriVeRs/mobile/1...dd_ccc_ocl.exe
http://www2.ati.com/DriVeRs/11-9_mob...2-64_xcode.exe
http://www2.ati.com/DriVeRs/mobile/1...ydravision.exe

or 11.10 Preview

http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDC...iewdriver.aspx

When the download is complete, run the setup program as an administrator and do an express install.

Everything should work great after this.

Profit!

/edit If you are not able to install the drivers after the last reboot, just reboot again and it should be fine. Seems like a big process, but it should work.

Bonus, a few things I have noticed previously with my G73Jh

If you used an older version of Driver Sweeper it could have likely removed several ATI files from the system driver cache which will cause you a LOT of problems down the road so you'll likely need to restore those if you do a "sfc /scannow" from an administrative command prompt and it complains there are issues it can't fix. -- This issue caused me to be unable to install video drivers on a system with a new clean load.

When you updated your drivers, did you go directly from the drivers from the disk/asus support site to 11.8, or were you running drivers in rev 11.x prior to the update? If you were using the drivers from the base driver disk prior to the update you may have to update your Video Bios if you have not done so previously. http://www.asusrog.com/forums/showthread.php?519-G73Jh-GSOD-Vbios-Update

The old vBIOS wouldn't cause his mis-identification of his panel, tho having the updated vBIOS is always recommended.

He could try uninstalling his displays from Device Manager and let them get re-detected. Barring that, I would suggest either a Factory Recovery or Clean Install.

Actually Chastity the error on his video card I saw because of driver sweeper which is more where I was leaning, it would identify the video card but be unable to start the driver which would then cause the issue with the monitor only working as a "Standard Monitor" and not a "Plug & Play Monitor" or the proper model of monitor which gives the oddball monitor resolutions as opposed to the proper display panel rez.

Bonus
If I remember right it was 4 files Driversweeper removed from the Windows Driver Store from C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\... which caused havoc when trying to install the ATI drivers of any revision.

If you run a system file check "sfc /scannow" and it says it can't fix erorrs the best bet is to run "findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log > C:\sfcdetails.txt" and view the file to see if any Intel or Ati related files are missing then open Driver Sweeper and restore them from the Archive "if you had the program Archive them" if not then extracting them from install media or copying from a working pc can get VERY fun and depending on the state of your PC Chastity's suggestion for a clean load would be the way to go.

Have you got the new VBIOS? www.asustreiber.de/G73/G73JhAS.213.zip http://www.asusrog.com/forums/showthread.php?519-G73Jh-GSOD-Vbios-Update
Unless you have that you can't really update your graphics drivers without constant crashing.

Also the 716mb is normal (or at least it says that on mine too), you still have 1024mb of graphics memory but for some reason its split into 716 and 308mb.

yes i did both of bios updates, when 716 is normal, it means everything in order. Thank you all for your supports.

I was pretty much limited to the OEM drivers ASUS posts on their support page until I upgraded my vBIOS. Now I am running the latest ATI drivers 13.6 Beta 2 without problems (so far). I had a really good benchmark for GSOD with COH2 and it does not do it anymore since the vBIOS update. If you don't do the vBIOS I would stick with Asus's website (v12.10)?
