Hi, this is my first post, I will soon be a g-series owner :).

asus g53 - 15.6", i7-2630QM, 8gb (16gb +$60), GTX 560M w/2gb GDDR5, 750/7200rpm, 4x Max. Blu-Ray Reader, Win7 Pro = $1,346.36

asus g74 - 17.3", i7-2630QM, 16gb, GTX 560M w/3gb GDDR5, 750/7200rpm, 4x Max. Blu-Ray Reader, Win7 Pro =$1,603.41

going with one of the above for sure, i would really like the first one, but for $250 more i get so much more... thoughts? (prices from pro-star.com, has custom options)

edit: is the 2gb 560m 128 bit in the g53?

The G74 is having a LOT of issues. Touchpad and keyboard are the top of the list. Get the G53.

It seems like the only thing the higher price will get you is a larger screen. So what you need to decide is whether you want more portability or a more desktop-like experience.

from what i've read, the 74 is having more issues, but seems to be from having the wrong/missing drivers. i'll be getting the 3 year warranty + accidental damage warranty to help with any other issues. was looking for was answers on the 128bit/192bit gfx card on the models i posted. also do the prices seem fair? also is 3gb 560m and 16gb ram useless? should i just stick with 8gb/1.5gb video? i have the money to upgrade, just not sure if its necessary or a good investment (sorta like yeah why not?).

No offense, but you really need to get off that train. We get it, you don't like the lack of numlock and the touchpad...well, mine works fine... A lot of problems? No, not really.

The G53 is great, but the G74 is too. Not sure why you're taking every opportunity to bash the G74 and say it's crap because it's lacking something. I could call the G74 crap because it doesn't have an eSATA port or DisplayPort. What crap it that! Oh wait...it's great for what it is and I actually don't need either of those things.

Maybe instead of blasting the G74 all the time you could try to, I don't know, educate people on WHY you think it's crap so they can form their own opinion.

Not sure if you noticed, but the happy G74 owners in other threads outweigh the people having "problems."

most likely will stick to a g53, just because i own a current 15.6", and i'm scared to make the switch and not like it after spending $1k+.

does the g74 have better cooling? aside from it being bigger and having more airflow, someone told me that they use some type of brass that conducts heat better than they use in the g53.

I don't know about better, but the G74 has insanely awesome cooling and it's nearly silent under all conditions.

Doesn't the G53 come with 128-bit memory on the 560gtx with 2GB of mem, thus slowing it down a bit compared to it's big brother?

1,5GB and 3GB = 192, and 1gb/2gb = 128. ??

so i pulled the trigger on an asus g74sx, and spent WAY more than i was expecting to, i hope it was worth it :)

Model: G74SX-TH71
i7-2670QM 2.2GHz, 3GB GTX 560m, 12GB DDR3, 500GB 7200 HDD

Bought a Kingston 128GB SSD, with Windows Professional loaded on the SSD for main boot drive.

compusa is setting mine up, hopefully they will take care of everything, or i'll be bringing it back to them to fix whatever problems it has.
