I recently purchased a Plextor pcie SSD, pcie card with 256 GB M.2 SSD on it, I had no real reason to do so except boredom , and maybe benching without sata cables running to drives.
So I had a Corsair Force GT 120 GB that I keep with everything on it and have had it on a RIVE with both SB-E and IV-E processors without fresh installs, so it is not fresh and optimized, a OCZ Vector 4 128 GB drive with a fairly fresh OS install of Win 7 on the RIVE IV-E only, the Corsair drive has Acronis Home edition so I used it to clone the OCZ drive onto the Plextor drive. Today I ran AS SSD on all 3 drives 3 times booting to each drive, so I have some useless information. The Corsair is probably the least optimized as its been used on several CPU installations back and forth between SB-E and IV-E. the results are as follows

Running AS SSD from the Plextor

36212

From the OCZ drive

36213

and from the Force GT drive

36214

:D

Does it drop gpu from x16 to x8?

Yes.....PCIe is the way to go....looking about myself....OCZ just released something nice...

Ideal world want a board that can run SLI with two cards @x16, one x8 SSD, and a soundcard...0 SATA connections!

Exactly Arne, fast and clean setup, the OCZ is a raid setup and much faster, more costly I assume, I haven't seen the price yet, but what benchmarks besides storage see an increase using Raid, Realbench see's an increase using raid, I assume PCMark or a hole system type benchmark

Yeah not sure what benefit in reality it gives but mentally I'll be happier....I really would like those 8 PCIe lanes to the chipset optional...and maybe 4 of them left free with just a couple of SATA6 ports for emergency...if 40 is still our lot with Haswell E...of course I'm hoping for more!

Fusion io FX 420GB.
The only option for PCIe storage.

That's a nice looking drive! but the price tag is steep...you can get a 960GB OCZ RevoDrive 350 for less.

And a 480 GB for $830

Of course you can get several 500GB drives and raid them yourself for less at the moment but the hope is PCIe will come down in price soon and leave all this SATA stuff in the dust of history...

Hello

Has the ioFX ever been updated to be used as a boot drive?

The Plextor was simple as eating cherry pie, install drive, install OS, nothing more, Mushkin also have a super fast pcie drive, but they are hard to find and expensive, it looks like well be going to M.2 drives on the motherboard I don't see pcie express really going anywhere

Boredom is cleary everywhere.. Just recently I was slain to. So here is somemore a ssd results Tested:: Corsair Force GT 120Gb OCZ Vertex 3, 128Gb 2xRAID0 (never any problem in >3yr) Intel 520 120Gb RAID0 FROM both Intel and OCZ stand alone scores also.

No SATA(or molex, who the hell invented molex connectors btw, I'd like to have a word with him lol) would be very nice. I have a mSata drive on the wifi/msata combo card on the M5E, they come in sizes up to 512GB if I'm not mistaken.

They're not as fast as a regular drive but I can't tell the difference between the msata and the other samsung SSD's I got.

Ram Cache ftw!
