Good morning all,

i own an asus g750jx and i'm very happy with this laptop, it has very good performance.
Yesterday i received a new modem BBOX3 (in Belgium) to access internet and TV which has a dual band wifi 2.4 and 5ghz, so the modem deploy 2 different ssid 1 for 2.4 and 1 for 5ghz.
In the modem i see wifi 5ghrz 802.11an
my pc with w8.1 can't see the 5ghz band :(
the wireless adapter is a qualcomm atheros ar9485wb-eg.
Does my wifi adapter detect the 5ghz band?

Thanks in advance
Salento.

Hi Salento, the G750JX has two WiFi options: b/g/n and .ac. The Qualcomm atheros ar9485wb-eg doesn't support .ac so you have the b/g/n model, which means you'll only see the 2.4GHz band up to -n speeds.

You can disassemble your G750 to replace the WiFi module as it's simple an mPCIe x1 card, but unfortunately it's not in the user-serviceable area (that's just HDD/memory) which means it's a warranty voiding activity I'm afraid.

Hi Richard, Thanks for your answer.

The 802.11ac (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.11ac). does, it seems to be the last/default wifi technology and should be backward compatible?

Wi-Fi Technologies since B are backward compatible on the 2.4 ghz band. Only N and AC use the 5 ghz band.
