I have a G75VX laptop with Windows 8 preinstalled. I want to upgrade to 8.1, but I need to be able to save the update files to USB or DVD so that I don't have to download the entire 3 GB all over again from the Windows store whenever I want to wipe and reinstall my OS.

I'm trying Methods 2 and 3 on this web page: http://www.askvg.com/how-to-download-windows-8-1-rtm-standalone-offline-iso-for-clean-installation

But both methods are asking me for a Windows product key. My computer has no Windows sticker on it. I've contacted ASUS and they're telling me that a product key is not needed because Windows is already activated. (Humph!) What to do?

Windows Product Key finder (http://www.datafilehost.com/d/829c7acd)
Run pkeyui.exe by right clicking on it then choose Run As Administrator, then find your Windows 8 product key and write it down somewhere safe.
I find the best way is to first off make a Asus Backtracker (http://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1002165/)restore to factory media. With this you can put the Notebook back to where it was coming from the factory.
What I do is, use Macrium Reflect (http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx)and make images that can be installed back to the point the images were created.

Well, I tried the key finder, and it just gave me a manufacturer's key. The Windows installer won't accept it.

Oh if your using a retail ISO, you'll need to use a generic Key to install. then use your key to Activate. Windows 8.1 Core 334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT try this one. Remember you have to install the same version that was original installed. You can't use your key to activate a Pro Version or KN or N
Yea a OEM Key won't let you download an ISO
If that program didn't get your key Goggle for another program there a lots of them out there that will extract your Key and it will be an OEM Core Key

ISO are hard to come by now. hopefully you can borrow one from a friend?

You still have these options

I looked at the installation thread you noted. That should work to get a ISO. That work around has been being used for a few months now.
