The 13.3-inch ASUS UX31. One half of the Ultrabook PC Revolution

The next revolution in PCs is here. Ultrabooks are set to take the world by storm this Fall and redefine the way students think about portable computing.
It used to be that going for an ultra-portable PC meant at least some sacrifice in performance – usually a slower processor designed mostly for web browsing and daily tasks – fine to get you through the school day, but leaving some students wishing for more power. All that has changed now though -

The ASUS UX21 and UX31 feature ULV Intel Core i5 and i7 processors

The 11.6″ ASUS UX21 (http://campuslife.asus.com/index/products/ultraportables/ux21/) and 13.3″ UX31 (http://campuslife.asus.com/index/products/ultraportables/ux31/) aren’t just insanely slim and lightweight (http://campuslife.asus.com/index/4653/behind-the-scenes-with-the-asus-ux21-ux31-ultrabooks/) – they’re powerful too. Each comes equipped with 4GB of ram and the next generation of 32nm turbo-charged Intel Ultra-low Voltage (ULV) CPUs in either Core-i5 or Core-i7 trims (Intel Core i5-2467M, Core-i5-2557M, or Core i7-2677M). With two cores and four threads each these aren’t your run of the mill lightweight processors. This “Zenbook” duo pack a serious punch that will easily handle everything you can throw at them throughout the school day, including most of the latest games.

Get options of 128GB or 256GB SATA III solid-state drives with uncompromised speed up to 500MB/s

But performance doesn’t end with a fast CPU – that’s just the start. The UX21 and UX31 both come equipped with the new fastest SATA III solid-state drive (SSD) technology with 128GB SSDs coming standard and an option of a 256GB SSD in the 13.3″ model. Max read speeds of 500MB/s mean that every application loads faster and feels crisper. Waiting is a thing of the past.

SSD technology also cuts start-up and shut-down times (http://campuslife.asus.com/index/4461/how-much-faster-does-a-solid-state-drive-boot-up/) by upwards of 70% so your PC will feel like it boots up in no time at all. That means no more waiting what seems like forever for your notebook to boot up in the morning. You could pull out your notebook when the prof pulls up the first lecture slides and be ready to type notes before they’ve said more than a couple sentences. But that’s only if you actually turn off your notebook between classes…

ASUS Exclusive Instant-on technology resumes your PC from sleep-mode in just 2 seconds

With exclusive Instant-on technology from ASUS the UX21 and UX31 can both resume from sleep-mode in just 2 seconds. You could keep your notebook running for more than 2 weeks on standby (battery life lasts 5-7 hours during normal use) ready to activate with all your open programs ready to go whenever you hit the power button. Imagine pulling your PC out of your backpack between classes and being able to get onto your email within seconds, or being able to close the lid on your notebook between classes and have it ready the moment you opened it again at your next lecture – without it draining the battery while it’s in your bag.

Right ports: mini-VGA-out, micro-HDMI-out, USB 3.0 port, and DC-in

And you won’t have to worry about your mobile phones’ battery either. The ASUS Zenbooks both come with SuperSpeed USB 3.0 (http://campuslife.asus.com/index/514/all-aboard-the-usb-3-0-express/) technology that’s not only up to 10x faster at transferring data than USB 2.0 but also charges devices nearly as fast as plugging into an outlet. That means you’ll have one less power adapter to carry around.
You also get Bluetooth 4.0, a mini-VGA port, and micro-HDMI port to make plugging into an external monitor or HDTV easy in case you need to extend your screen real-estate past the 11.6″ 1366768 resolution screen on the UX21 or the 13.3″ 1600900 resolution screen on the UX31.

Left ports: USB 2.0 port, headphone jack, 5-in-1 card reader (UX31 only)

And thanks to ASUS’ collaboration with Bang & Olufsen ICEpower not even audio is sacrificed for portability. ASUS has managed to fit exceptionally clear audio into the UX21 and UX31′s ultra-slim 0.67″ profiles. It’s hard to believe these uni-body aluminium notebooks both weigh less than 3lbs. If you thought that getting an ultra-portable PC meant you’d have to sacrifice performance or buy a second PC for home use then it’s time for a re-think. Now the performance you want can take up less space in your school bag than a coil notebook. The ASUS UX21 (http://campuslife.asus.com/index/products/ultraportables/ux21/)and UX31 (http://campuslife.asus.com/index/products/ultraportables/ux31/)Zenbooks change everything.
