View Full Version : nView missing for GTX 460m?

I'm using my G53 with two 23" external monitors. I was expecting to have the nView buttons in the title bar of my application windows so that I can send windows from one monitor to the other, or span the application window across both monitors. Apparently nView isn't included with my G53 (and have been told that nvidia has dropped nView for geforce cards in order to make quadro cards more appealing). Does anyone know if there is a way to get nView working on Windows 7 for the GTX 460m? This is one feature that I'm really missing from my old XP desktop. Or maybe I'm unaware of a Windows 7 keyboard shortcut to send windows back and forth, rather than having to click and drag across the displays. Thanks for any help.

Google found this http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/6327-nvidia-nview-desktop-manager.html

And this http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/563692-want-nview-win-7-heres-how.html

Hope it helps

nview's been gone for awhile. like since 195.xx

in order to get it working, you'd need to roll back to driver 186 or so. even then i don't think it'd work with a GTX460m.

just update to the 285 beta.

Should I download from the links Chastity's Driver Thread?
Which one of these should I install?

[JW/SW/SX] Modified 285.27 Beta for NVIDIA (for those who cannot use the normal Verde Beta package)

[JW/SW/SX] Modified 285.38 Beta Updated INF Driver Pack (for those who cannot use the Verde notebook pack from NVIDIA)

What's the benefit of these drivers? What's the quickest & most efficient way to move an application window from one monitor to the other?

Supposedly, you can extract the nview installer from the Verde package and install it separately.

even then i don't think it'd work with a GTX460m.

why not? used to work fine on my old EVGA 6600GT. it also worked on my old 5200XT, and on my asus nforce 1 w/integrated geforce 2, board.

for the life of me i don't understand why they ever removed nview from the drivers.

They didn't remove it, it's still in the package it only installs for Quadro cards. Nvidia's way of making nview a bullet point for the more expensive Quadros.

Nview can be forced to install, though, with a simple .INF mod.

i think they quit making it a feature for the geforce cards because they were working on something like Ati's Eyefinity.

still, it was a good feature and i used it many a time.
