Hello everyone,
I had to recently RMA my laptop to NewEgg due to fan issues. They are denying my RMA because they claim I removed a recovery partition. I didn't remove any recovery partition, and my friend just mentioned to me that Asus might just use the built in functionality of Window 8.1 to do a system restore.

Does anyone know if that's the case? If this is the case, I need to know asap so I can contact newegg and either demand they fix it or demand my money back.

Thanks.

cpeumr, the Asus install on the G750 creates a recovery partition, and using F9 at boot - or creating an Asus Backtracker recovery flash drive from the recovery partition - allows a restore back to the original Asus install.

Apparently newegg tried to do a restore and it didn't work. If you didn't do anything to the disk partitioning - delete or reinstall Windows in your own fashion, then tell newegg.

Just because newegg can't get the recovery to work doesn't mean you changed it - it might just be broken on it's own as it came from Asus, or the newegg tech worker is doing it wrong.

Suggest to newegg they try to create a 16GB USB 3.0 flash recovery drive using Asus Backtracker - if the F9 at boot method isn't working. If that fails tell them they can take another G750 of the same model, create the Asus Backtracker flash recovery drive from that, and restore to your laptop.

And, I don't think newegg should be able to refuse your return because you re-sinstalled the OS on your own removing the restore partition.

Even Asus doesn't deny RMA if you change the OS. Asus will blow away your configuration and install their OS build so they can service the G750, but Asus won't refuse RMA service.

Tell newegg to stop being jerks and refund your $ :)

Thanks for the quick reply hmscott. I'll let them know.

They claimed that by removing a restore partition, I somehow voided the Newegg warranty. I didn't check out of the box if there was such a restore partition, because the laptop's fans were clearly malfunctioning. I'll let them know this new information, but I'd rather just get my money back from them and purchase the laptop from somewhere else. I really liked the laptop's feel from the short time that I had it!
