Hey everyone,

Im pretty excited about my new laptop, but im facing a serious problem with mine, WIFI is not working properly.
It can connect to the router no problem there, but the internet access isnt stable, afetr like 15mins it shows the i have "Limited" access, in other words no internet access, and i cant seem to find a solution.

I bought it yesterday brand new running Win8 (didnt upgrade to 8.1 yet), and i have 8 days to return it to get a new unit. I found out that alot of ppl have this issue on Windows 8, so is my unit faulty or its an known issue that can be solved easily ??

any help would be appreciated
thx in advance :)

FalconFX, to give the JH a fair full shot, you need to update Windows 8.0 completely via WIndows Update, then do the Windows 8.1 upgrade, and then download and install all the latest Windows 8.1 drivers for your hardware components, then you can make a fair judgement call on whether you want to keep it.

Don't forget to create an Asus Backtracker USB 3.0 flash recovery drive so you can restore later, or mid updates, should you want to correct your efforts - sometimes it takes a couple of passes through to know the right order to do things - and mistakes happen :)

The Wifi problem is common, until you get fully updated.

Also, uninstall a few problematic Asus utilities: Asus Splendid, Asus Power4Gear, Asus Gaming Mouse, Asus Live Update, and set the Windows Power Plan Balanced to CPU min/max 0%/100% and High Performance to 100%/100%.

Here are the links I use to check for the latest drivers - the JW/JX/JH download areas haven't been updated for a while, so you want to dig into the latest product releases of the same components - the JM/JS/JZ have newer updates - and then the shared areas might have even newer updates.

G750 support areas - The JM download area has the latest of all the G750, with JS/JZ next, the G750JW/JX/JH are out of date:

Here are the Asus posted VGA drivers, it's better to get the latest from Nvidia - currently 337.88, except for the JM/JS/JZ owners you probably want to keep using 332.60 to avoid random crashes - as reported by a lot of people. 340.43 BETA is good for the JH, mine runs great but needs MSI Afterburner for OC'ing the GPU.

Having the latest Windows 8.1 updates, which we have been waiting for for such a long time, is key to getting the best most stable performance.
Once you have updated, let us know how it works :)

Thank you so much for replying, i tried to update via Windows Update as you suggested but some if not all of the updates failed (i wasnt in front of the computer) but it restarted a couple of times with the message "Failure configuring windows up dates, reverting changes", im trying to redowbload them (653mb in size), but i don't know if they are the same as the ones that failed in the first time, anyway i will keep you posted :D

FalconFX, that's too bad, I hate when that happens... here are some debugging tips/tools from Microsoft:

Use our Windows Update Automated Troubleshooter - Solutions for common Windows Update errors - Windows 8
https://support.microsoft.com/gp/windows-update-issues

"Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer" error when you try to install Windows updates
https://support.microsoft.com/kb/949358

If none of that works, and you don't have too much installed - or don't mind reinstalling and redoing the installs - you can do an F9 restore at boot to do a recovery install to the original out of the box configuration to re-start the update process from scratch. You can also use the Asus Backtracker flash recovery drive you made to do the restore.

Make sure to give the update troubleshooter the time it needs, and the same for the resulting updates, when it takes so long it seems best to reboot or power cycle while it is running - but walk away and do something else and let it complete if it can - it may hang so don't wait forever :)

Good luck and let us know how it works out :)

Run the fix it program again - and keep running it till it comes up clean with no problems, try other things in the links for solutions - search and try those things - give up and backup your stuff and reload the OS.

Never abort an update, power down during an update, or skip an update after it has started. Even so, these situations come up.

It keeps coming up with 2 to 3 problems every time i run it, im really dissappointed, i pay 2300$ for a laptop that drops wifi, and i had a 400$ one that worked flawlessly from day 1 ????, what do you recommend doing next ?

FalconFX, that's good news on the Wifi driver :)

Long term you want to fix the Windows update problem, so you can get updates, and eventually update to Windows 8.1. It may require a recovery reinstall - F9 or use Asus Backtracker to create a recovery flash drive - boot on that and restore you boot disk to original Windows 8.0 and then do the updates to Windows 8 again.

Don't forget to backup all your personal stuff to an external disk before doing the recovery restore, and backup or remove the 2nd Bay drive as the restore will erase that and repartition it at the same time.

Let us know how it works out :)

Oh i forgot, about asus backtracker, i installed some games and programs on the OS partition, if i use a USB to backup the recovery partition using it, will it take the whole OS partition or just the raw image on the hidden one (not the OS partition), and will i be able to use that USB to format my laptop as using a DVD ??

FalconFX, Asus Backtracker only backs up the recovery partition, not anything else installed on the laptop - or personal files. The recovery install puts the OS boot disk back to the original out of the box configuration. And, if you have a Bay 2 drive, it will delete the existing partitions and recreate them as they were out of the box.

Yes, the flash drive will be bootable, and the install runs from it. Get a very fast USB 3.0 16GB drive so that you get all the recovery stuff and the creation and restore run quickly. USB 2.0 is way slow - hours to create and restore.

Have fun :)
