View Full Version : WIFI Speed goes up and down

08-15-2014, 05:12 PM

two days ago I reinstalled Windows 8 on my new SSD.
However, playing online (e.g. CoD) has been impossible since then due to very excessive lag spikes...

It did work while the System was running on the HDD though.
I have allready updated the wifi card driver.

My PC: Asus G750JX
My WiFi Card: Broadcom 802.11ac
Current driver: v6.30.223.99 (should be the latest on windows 8)

A photo of a speedtest while using the built in wifi card: 40079

Other devices are working properly, atm I'm using a wifi usb stick, so it must be the network card.

I hope you can help me in this case.

Regards, Henry

Right, disabling WMM in the chip konfiguration seems to have done it. ;)

How do you disable this exactly? I have the same problem as you. Or do you mean you disable it on the router configuration?

hemme2411, disabling WMM can limit 802.11n connection speed to 54mbps. What speed are you connected now, and before disabling WMM?

Don't Mess With WMM!

Also, 802.11n speeds faster than 54mbps require using WPA-2 + AES Encryption, otherwise the connection is limited to 54mbps.

Fast Wi-Fi's little secret - you have to turn on WPA2 encryption

For the Wifi connection speed problem, it looks like either the router needs a Firmware update, or the laptop Wifi driver needs updating to the latest Windows 8.x version, or both. My Asus RT-68U needed a Firmware update, I had the same Up/Down Wifi speed instability, I downloaded the firmware update directly from Asus - don't count on the built in firmware update feature. After updating the Firmware the WiFi speed and connection were stable.

You can install the Windows 8.1 version, the installer works on Windows 8.0 too :)

The WLAN download area for 8.0 has the newest V6.30.223.228 available.

G750 support areas - The JM download area has the latest of all the G750, with JS/JZ next, the G750JW/JX/JH are out of date:
