Was wunder'n if someone could tell me the blu-ray brand and model number that is in their G750JZ, Asus is out of them in their store and they want $145 and they show a model number Blu-ray Burner Super Multi Combo Drive (UJ240), They do not say what brand, I found a Panasonic on amazon with the model UJ240 for $55 and do you think this would fit?

Mat****a bd-cmb uj160

The forums swear filter kicked in, so just replace the 1st asterisk w/ an s, and the last w/ a t... you can probably guess the rest.

Reaper22, nice find, I had been looking for one too, I have the UJ160 in my JH, which is a BD-R DVD-RW - I assume you want to write Blu-ray's - just so you know - it takes *forever* to write a full 50GB at 6x :)

Panasonic UJ240 6x Blu-ray Burner BD-RE/8x DVD±RW DL SATA Drive (Black) $25
http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-UJ240-Blu-ray-Burner-DVD%C2%B1RW/dp/B003AXW2YQ

It looks like there are several newer models, at least larger model numbers:

Panasonic UJ260, UJ-260 6x Blu-ray Burner 8x DVD Burner Player SATA Laptop Drive - $50
http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-UJ260-UJ-260-Blu-ray-Burner/dp/B00BRF4O7M/ref=pd_cp_pc_1/182-8732153-2307508

Panasonic UJ262 UJ-262 9.5mm SATA Super Slim Ultrathin 6X 3D Blu-ray Burner BD-RE Dual Layer Recorder 8X DVD-RAM Writer Tray Loading Optical Drive for Dell Laptop
- $90
http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-UJ262-Ultrathin-Blu-ray-Recorder/dp/B00HG77LSO/ref=pd_cp_pc_2

Panasonic UJ-265 Slim 6X Blu-ray Writer SATA (Slot Load) - $62.00
http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-UJ-265-Slim-Blu-ray-Writer/dp/B00A29FYD2/ref=pd_cp_pc_3

Brand New UJ265 UJ-265 6X Blu-ray Burner Drive SATA Interface For Laptop 12.7mm - $67.93
http://www.amazon.com/UJ265-UJ-265-Blu-ray-Burner-Interface/dp/B00CFXZ9VA/ref=pd_cp_pc_0

They are all the correct form factor, it is up to you to decide the model/vendor.

If you want fast burning on the JZ, you could build an external burner on USB 3.0 using a fast 5.25" Burner, like the Asus 16x:

Asus BW-16D1HT 16X Blu-Ray Disc Drive
Extreme 16X Blu-Ray writing speed, backup 25GB data for only 8 minutes
http://www.asus.com/us/Optical_Drives/BW16D1HT/

ASUS Computer International Direct Blu-Ray Writer BW-16D1HT - $96.24
http://www.amazon.com/Computer-International-Direct-Blu-Ray-BW-16D1HT/dp/B00DWFPDJI/ref=sr_sp-atf_title_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1409133839&sr=1-2&keywords=Asus+BW-16D1HT+16X+Blu-Ray+Disc+Drive

A nice external enclosure:

Vantec USA NexStar DX External 5.25-Inch Optical Drive Enclosure USB 3.0 External Interface Optical Drives 14700365 (NST-530S3-BK)
http://www.amazon.com/Vantec-5-25-Inch-Enclosure-Interface-NST-530S3-BK/dp/B0093HKFYW/ref=sr_sp-atf_image_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=undefined&sr=1-1&keywords=vANTEC+ST-530S3-BK

Of course, you could do both...

Please report back which you choose and how it works :)

I recently purchased a LG BT30N Blu-ray player
/Burner also plays and burns to 100GB BDXL disc and M-disc $84.00 (This model I was referred to me here the forums).

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BKEC65M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Its gone down a buck.

I pre-purchased my upgrades for my soon to be purchased ASUS G750JS-RS71

I also picked up an additional 4GB stick of OEM SK Hynix RAM to top off the OEM 12GB to 16GB.

And also got a great deal on this:

SAMSUNG EVO 840 1TB $379.99

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E3W16OU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It has since gone up.

Got this also ACCELL high speed 3.0 Sata data transfer cable. This one has 2ft transfer cables

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007B5SCBQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hope this helps.

Reaper22, wifipedia, Panasonic:

From 1935 to October 1, 2008 the company name was "M a t s u s h i t a Electric Industrial Co., Ltd." On January 10, 2008, the company announced that it would change its name to "Panasonic Corporation", with effect from October 1, 2008 to conform with its global brand name "Panasonic". The name change was approved at a shareholders' meeting on June 26, 2008 after consultation with the M a t s u s h i t a family.

@Reaper22 Please let us (me if no one else :) )know how this went post install as I have no doubts the slotted drive will work in your laptop. My concern is the OEM bezel no longer fitting on the drive and how a slotted optical drive install will change the overall look and drive functionality in some way. Post a pic if you can, I'd like to see what this drive modification looks like.

rurik133, your link didn't come through, but I found it on European sites, like Amazon.uk:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dcomputers&field-keywords=SN-506BB

Only 1 listing has a review from an actual buyer, but they confirm it works with Windows 8.1 :)

Looks good, and there are others on the Amazon.uk site:

This one is a slot loading drive, I am posting it because in the area below called "Customers Who Viewed This Item Also Viewed" there is a list of many of the Blu-ray writeable drives on the site, handy :)

Well I received the Panasonic UJ-265 Slim 6X Blu-ray Writer SATA (Slot Load) it did fit and works but there is a gap in the bottom that needs filled in somehow, If you get a drive it needs to be the slim 12.7mm, I bought the cyberlink 11 program and for some readon the power dvd 11 won't read my blu-rays, any one have any ideas? the drive shows up in device manager correctly and I can read files on the drive so it is working with my puter..

Reaper22, you may have purchased the DVD version... are there any Blu-ray icons in the app, or Blu-ray section in the settings?

Cyberlink PowerDVD Ultimate 14 is the current version for the Blu-ray supported PowerDVD:
http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdvd-ultra/features_en_US.html

Free Trial
http://www.cyberlink.com/downloads/trials/powerdvd-ultra/download_en_US.html?affid=2581_1102_555_0_0_ENU

I use the Live version now, so I can quickly install it where I need it, and update it quickly:
http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdvd-live/features_en_US.html

If you are handy with tools, and have a Dremel tool + vise + fittings you could cut a slot in the face plate facade that came with the G750 DVD. :)

Hey Bro I got that PowerDVD 11 working, I downloaded and installed a trial to another program it was TotalMedia Theatre 6 to see if it was the drive or progam and was able to play blu-ray dvd's on it and all of a sudden the PowerDVD started working. Must been files that did not come with powerdvd 11 that came with TotalMedia Theatre 6.
Thanks for the tip on the face plate I also have access to a maching shop at work, So I'm guessing the faceplate will snap on but how do I go about the eject button, geuss I could machine it in to or just use the softwear eject..
Crap just dawned on me, cut old face plate out to fit the new faceplate inside of it "DUH" lol ...
Thanks man

I've got the same laptop on the way and I am looking at basically doing the exact same thing. I'm stuck between the slot-load (UJ-265) and the tray (UJ260). I'd really like to get the slot-load by my number one concern is getting the faceplate to look right. I feel like if it looked bad, I would regret not getting the other. I saw that you were considering modifying your faceplate and was wondering if you could show me what you did? Any insight would help!
