Bios version: 208

CPU: i7 4700HQ

Memory amount in GB: 16

GPU: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX870M 3GB GDDR5 VRAM

SSD/HDDs/Optical drives: 1TB HD / 256GB SSD

AC Adapter: original ASUS 180w adapter

Operating system: Original ASUS factory image or clean install? Windows 8.1 Pro Clean Install

Microsoft Activated yes/no? Yes

Drivers Installed (include version and especially any non-ASUS approved notebook drivers): Drivers from asus support page + nVidia 332.60

Any third Party temp/voltage software installed: None

System Overclocked (provide details)? No

Any hardware upgraded? No

Issue (In addition to the problem description please let us know if the problems started recently and if you remember changing anything around the same time, etc.)

I bought a brand new G750js from ASUS at Amazon and so far I am experiencing a lot of bsod of variety of types:

- IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
- DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
- KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
- UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP
- SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

and maybe others (got these since last OS reset)...
It usually happens when I am playing League of Legends, but I also experienced them while watching streams, or even while updating Windows through Windows updates...
Windows updates were made, memory was tested through windows tools and drivers seems to be updated. Even a clean install of Windows 8.1 could not solve this issue.
Do anyone have a clue? Thanks in advance!

First, I would like to suggest you to get it returned because new one should not cause any of problems that you mentioned.
Second, if you can, please do test with GoldMemory for your memory sanity.

G750 series is hard to be disassembled even we simply replace or upgrade RAM or SSD.
If I can, I would like to replace RAM with another one but it's your new laptop so I don't recommend this.
G750's bottom cover is very fragile so I see many people complain about this so it would be better to send it back to seller to get it returned or refund. ( I also broke some of hinges inside of the cover )

alextavella, have you looked through the forum at all the JM/JS BSOD threads?

They all say revert back to Nvidia 332.60 to stop BSOD's, and wait for Nvidia to work out the issue before installing newer drivers.

What version of the Nvidia driver are you running?

If you are running 332.60, then it may be a Nvidia GPU problem... but lets not go there till you downgrade the driver to 332.60 and the problem keeps happening.

Yes, I took a look at the threads here, uninstalled most of Asus`s drivers, including gaming mouse driver, it didn`t fix the issue.
I am running version 337.88 for now, but downgrading right now...

alextavella, I hope that does it, but most threads about that BSOD are for JM's...

When you say you uninstalled Asus drivers, you mean applications like Power4Gear, Splendid, etc, not actual hardware device drivers - you need those :)

And, if you did a clean install, and updated nothing and still have the crashing, that isn't good either, since 332.60 is the Nvidia driver that comes with the laptop.

Did you create an Asus Backtracker flash recovery drive, 16GB USB 3.0, you could boot from that and do a clean rebuild of the disk partitions and that might be something to try as well. Make sure you remove the 2nd bay drive before doing the restore, as it will wipe that drive and rebuild the disk partitions too.

You shouldn't be crashing like this...

There are newer drivers than in the JM/JS/JZ download areas, the central feature download areas, here are places I check:

Here is the list of places I look for updates for my G750JH; the best way to get a stable fully functioning G750/G751 is to update all the drivers / apps to the latest Windows 8.1 release.

The G750JW/JX/JH/JM/JS/JZ download areas haven't had new updates for a while, BIOS updates still happen in your model's support area, so check there from time to time.

The G750/G751/551/500/etc share the same basic hardware components; check support download areas for new hardware for newer drivers.

Asus maintains central support areas for hardware component features common to all products, those areas usually have the latest drivers after new hardware releases, sometimes there is a lag before the newer drivers show up there, so still to new product releases support downloads for the latest drivers.

Asus G751 Support / Download areas - Asus hasn't updated all the versions of these support areas, this link discusses the 3 locations were started independantly and not sync'd/updated through to the latest driver releases - check them all to be sure.

Just got 2 BSOD with the 332.60 driver. So the issue is a hardware component?

It is strange that I can run FurMark without any problems and cannot play League of Legends, which is not as stressful, without a crash for 15 minutes.

alextavella, are you running Furmark at 1080p? Also try Unigine Heaven. If it is a GPU issue you should be able to crash the device driver on both of those.

Do you have the framerate uncapped on LoL?, try capping at 60 fps and see if it still crashes.

Did you start from a fresh restore / recovery booted from a Asus Backtracker flash drive? When you reset the PC from F9 did it take a long time to restore or was it a short time - it might have just reset settings and not reloaded the OS completely.

Others are running LoL fine, so either your Windows/driver/app config is messed up, or there is a hardware problem. You still haven't proven which it is...

Your BSODs don't list the same cause as the ones related to the NV drivers. Those are also specifically about the 860M. Yours look like memory errors or general system instability.

I'd do a factory restore and if it still BSODs, send it back. You would also probably be better off with a return to Amazon than trying your luck with ASUS RMA.

Yes, will try with Unigine Heaven too.

Yes, the configuration at the game is set to unlimited but it still freezes at 60fps. Probably because of some global configuration, I didn't look into it.

Will check that.

Why? Is there a problem with Asus RMA?

alextavella, it's just common sense. An RMA requires more time from start to finish, while a return to vendor can happen immediately.

If you are in the return period of the purchase, and the vendor has a new replacement to swap you, then you can be up and running the same day for a brick and mortar vendor, or 1-3 days for a cross shipping etailer, while an RMA usually takes 1-2+ weeks depending on the problem / solution / replacement parts inventory in the country of service.

The problem I have with returning to Amazon and RMA is that I bought the laptop in USA, but I am brazilian... So it is not possible for me to return... Besides that, the global warranty does not apply to Brazil :(

The good news are that I am going to Sweden to work for 3 months and the global warranty applies there. So, I will have to send for RMA there.

Well I've also had some trouble with ASUS repair centers. It's not uncommon to see poor work from some of them. But this is USA experience.

alextavella, that's too bad that you have a problem with your G750 and have to go through all that to get it fixed, but at least you have a plan to get it fixed for free under warranty :)

Please come back and let us know how it works out.
