only a small tip, for G750JM:

Re-install the Intel chipset driver may be a solution to the black screen problem when resuming from sleep. It is not a 100% solution because after the re-installation I have got the black screen happened once - but, it solved 99% of that. If you are suffering from it, just give it a try.

I am thinking that the black screen when resuming from sleep/shutdown is a power management related problem. I tried to remvoe the Asus power4gear software but the battery began to drain fast; and the instant on feature seems nowhere to turn off.

qiliangpei, after uninstalling Power4Gear, you then need to pick which Windows Power Plan to run on Battery and AC.

If you run the Power Saver plan on battery you should get as good of battery time - but go into the Power Plan Advanced settings and compare to the P4G Power Saver plan to make sure you have the same options enabled/disabled.

There is fine tuning to sleep the Wifi, ethernet, pci, etc - the extra battery life is in the details. Some don't like setting the Wifi on high power savings because it can drop the wifi link too often, and some router/AP's aren't so good at reconnecting.

Which version Intel Chipset driver did you install?

currently 10.0.13
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&FamilyId=42&ProductID=816&ProdId=816

What about the rest of the Windows 8.1 drivers? Have you had chance to hunt down the latest ones, outside of the JM support area?

thats the latest one offered on the intel site yes, but the actual latest might be:

Intel Chipset Device Software Version 10.0.22 WHQL

can be found at station-drivers site wich is a pretty decent site for all your (latest) driver needs site is french though, but telecharger means download ;)

Wulff, good site, but I don't like to give out back channel sources, as they often can get people into trouble for no benefit. I used to recommend station-drivers, guru3d, majorgeeks, and a few other less well known, but so far the 3 main sources work well enough for most users.

First, I encourage people to get the latest drivers from their laptop/pc vendor product support area, 2nd - track down similar hardware used in new product support areas on that same vendor site, 3rd from the OEM hardware vendor, and 4th - rarely through the back channels like station-drivers.

I had been searching for a potential fix for the JM BSOD problem from beta/alpha drivers in the back channel sites - but it looks like it was solved with 344.11 Nvidia release.

When I say back channel, I am really saying sites that make available unreleased test alpha/beta and potential release/WHQL drivers - perhaps not completely in accordance with the sources NDA agreements :)

I checked the 10.0.0.22 release notes:

Added Lewisburg devices.

Added YBR to several BDW-DE devices.

Try searching on either one, we don't have those in the G750.

And, the 10.0.0.13 is likely overkill too :)

Installer baseline version changed from 2.0 to 3.0.

Re-add IvyTown E7 brandings strings.

Add new IvyTown devices 0E45, 0E47, 0E85, and 0E95.

Added additional Broadwell-E devices and updated descriptions.

Added additional Baytrail-I devices and updated branding strings.

Allow Baytrail-I devices to install on Windows 8.

I stopped using back channel drivers a while ago because I got bit a few times, and even worse the people I recommended them to got bit too. That's why I stepped back and only offer links to downloads from the vendor and rarely to the hardware OEM supplier.

Thanks for the tips, hmscott.

I am using the driver from g750jm support site - all of them now. I have tried once to install the latest ones but ASUS re-installed its own driver automatically, at least the intel and nvidia graphic drivers, and I don't have much time to fight against it.

After uninstalling the power4gear, it is the system power management takes charge of it. Then after put it into sleep mode in the night, the battery was used out and g750 cannot start up in the next morning, totally.

Yesterday I've experienced the black screen problem once again so I want to try again on the power management things.

I remembered there was a setting for the different sleep modes - one for 22 days and the other for 150days - but now I cannot find it, any tips?

qiliangpei, that is why we uninstall Power4Gear, it provides no benefits over the Windows Power Plans, and goes behind our back and changes things. Go ahead and uninstall it, it won't be a problem :)

Also, if you have Hibernation enabled, disable that, it uses up disk space and these machines boot so fast it makes no sense to sleep. Also WIndows has issues with sleep mode at times, different games in mid play won't restart correctly. So no real benefit to sleep mode either. I just shutdown. My cold/warm boot time is a few seconds, so it isn't an issue.

How to disable and re-enable hibernation on a computer that is running Windows
https://support2.microsoft.com/kb/920730

To make hibernation unavailable, follow these steps:

Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
In the search results list, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator.
When you are prompted by User Account Control, click Continue.
At the command prompt, type powercfg.exe /hibernate off, and then press Enter.
Type exit, and then press Enter to close the Command Prompt window.

Turn off Windows Auto update:

Select Do Not Check At All - and do manual updates every Wednesday - new updates come out Tuesdays regularly.

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/windows-update-settings-windows-8.htm

Then when an update comes up you don't want to install, uncheck it and right click on it and set Hidden. It won't show up again :)

I guess you missed my many postings about how the JM area is now out of date, and to hunt down newer drivers in these areas, or you did and didn't pursue after getting some over installs by Windows - the only one I knew of was Nvidia drivers, but if Intel drivers try to reinstall set them to be hidden and don't install them.

Here is the list of places I look for updates for my G750JH; the best way to get a stable fully functioning G750/G751 is to update all the drivers / apps to the latest Windows 8.1 release.

The G750JW/JX/JH/JM/JS/JZ download areas haven't had new updates for a while, BIOS updates still happen in your model's support area, so check there from time to time.

The G750/G751/551/500/etc share the same basic hardware components; check support download areas for new hardware for newer drivers.

Asus maintains central support areas for hardware component features common to all products, those areas usually have the latest drivers after new hardware releases, sometimes there is a lag before the newer drivers show up there, so still to new product releases support downloads for the latest drivers.

Asus G751 Support / Download areas - Asus hasn't updated all the versions of these support areas, this link discusses the 3 locations were started independantly and not sync'd/updated through to the latest driver releases - check them all to be sure.
