In addition is it also possible to post 3D Mark 06 benchmarks instead of 3D Mark 11 in order to compare performance with previous generations G75/G750. Thanks!

Asus_G72GX, good idea, how about they do these FurtureMark tests, to get a wide range of upgrade coverage:

3dmark - Cloud Gate, Sky Diver, Fire Strike, Ice Storm

3dmark11

3dmark Vantage

PCMark Vantage

PCMark 7

3DMark06

And, whatever game or other favorite benchmarks you have :)

Well, no 3DMark06 - but I ran a quick 3DMark with Firestrike (8409) and Cloud Gate (21856):

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/4333560?
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/4333655?

and as for temperatures, everything seems to be hovering around ~41 on the 980m and around 42 or so on the CPU under normal use, I will try to get some numbers under load for something like Shadows of Mordor later on. So far so good, I am very pleased with everything and havent had any issues.

Can someone who has a G751JY in hand please advise us to the actual dimensions and weight of the system. One of Asus' press releases says 2.1" tall and over 11 lbs. Resellers like XoticPC say 1.7" tall and 8.4 lbs. Big discrepancy. I'd like to order one if it is the 8.4lb number, but would have to return it if I got it and found it is 11 lbs.

Thanks so much!

I have a question (sorry if it has already been answered) : do the G751 series also have OPTIMUS ?????

also, how is the IPS screen ? I read several times that these screens have sometimes an "image retention" (or ghost) effect.
like : when you had a static image for a long time on screen, and then change to an uniform background, you see for a limited time a "ghost image" of the previous image.

Hi Marshall

Do you have some geekbench scores for the G751 ? ( preferably Geekbench score when you have 32 gb of ram , as the more ram you have the higher ggeekbench is )

There is no optimus which I actually prefer as there are a lot less problem and the battery life is just fine especially since the 9xx series gpus are very power efficient. The IPS display is absolutely fantastic and blows away every other laptop I have not experienced any ghosting or image retention on the screen what so ever.

My first one the video card went bottoms up and this one has ****ty speakers that make that vibrating sound which makes them about useless although I moved out of my country for a year so I am stuck with crappy, broken speakers. I hope the GPU does't go on this one as well. Other than that the thing is a beast and I love it. I have the G751JY.

Guys, it looks like for the G751JY, it is important to update to the 204 BIOS to avoid CPU over-temp/throttling.

I just played 1 hour of Shadows of Mordor (ultra settings) with a max gpu temperatur @ 75c and max cpu @ 81c

Not sure if that's acceptable or not.. Seems like it's a pretty demanding game after all..

Did a few more hours of gaming (updated to the newest bios as well).

I ran BF4 for about 1 hour and reached following temperatures:

GPU: 76c max
CPU: 85c max

I played some World of Warcraft for about 2 hours as well:

GPU: 73c max
CPU: 85c max

Everything runs smooth - No lag, no nothing.

I will most likely do a RMA after the weekend, since I'm not happy with the CPU reaching those numbers.

3 hours of Shadow of Mordor @ ultra settings:

GPU: 73c max
CPU: 77c max

I had VSync turned on - So that definitely helps keeping the temperatures down.

Just got my G751JT today. It's been a long wait, but it was worth it. The screen is SPECTACULAR. I'm giving up my desktop monitor - this screen is better! The trackpad is the best I've felt since my MacBook. The laptop does, in fact, stay quiet under load, and the heat out the vents has been reasonable so far. I installed a SSD. It takes a little wrangling with Asus Backtracker, but it's well worth it. Great build quality, games play fast. Thank you, Asus!

First post!

I bought a G751JM from Best Buy on 11/3/14. I haven't really been a "gamer" for quite some time, but I picked up Reaper of Souls for PS4 and got addicted, and really wanted the PC version due to some PS4 shortcomings (not hardware, the game runs FANTASTIC on PS4. I was disillusioned by the sheer amount of hackers, so I got out. The PC version is all on Blizzards servers, so harder to hack.)

Buyers remorse set in shortly after for not spending the extra and getting the G751JT (I wanted it NOW, and Best Buy had the JM in stock.) I ordered the G751JT on 11/10/14, and took advantage of Best Buy's excellent return policy. With the sales tax savings of ordering the JT from Amazon, it only cost me $75 to upgrade.

Now I really have to figure out how to get the most out of this thing. I haven't figured out where any of the overclocking functions are ETC, heck, this is my first experience with Windows 8, other than my XBOne.

You can use MSI afterburner - It's straight forward and not hard to use.

+ You can track your temperatures at the same time :)

bobbymcq11/Sagi, Asus has their own Asus GPU Tweak for Graphics Cards that will work on the G751.

Asus GPU Tweak for Graphics Cards, stable at release 2.6.5(.3), newer versions have had problems reported.
http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=9&m=ASUS%20GPU%20Tweak%20for%20Graphics%20cards&hashedid=n/a

And, for unlocked the multipliers in the CPU, I have heard Asus is now shipping Intel Extreme Tuning Utility - XTU in the G751, or you can download it here:

Intel Extreme Tuning Utility - XTU - currently at 5.1.1.25
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&keyword=xtu

The manual should have been installed on the laptop, search for eManual, or go into C:\eSupport\Manual\eManual

You can also download the manual online, in the G751JT download area.

Here are all the support areas for G751's

There are lots of great posts in the forums for tips and tricks on the G750 that apply to the G751, you could read there too. This G751 forum is a bit young so there is not so much here yet.

stoop14, run hwinfo64 in Sensors Only mode, so you can catch Thermal Throttling when it happens - if it happens. Then you know for sure.

Speculating on how and when it might happen without actually doing it doesn't count :)

Also, trying to compare gaming related temps is a hit and miss and very frustrating method. That is why people invented benchmarks and stress tests that can create the exact same test on any machine.

When you are gaming who knows where he was when he saw 62c, he might have been idle in between events - whereas you looked at yours when you knew you had done enough to heat it up. Did he post a monitor display showing 62c, or only mention it in text - without an image of the monitoring to back it up it is not a credible reading.

The benchmarks/stress tests give us a method of comparison that we can use to measure temperatures of closely similar conditions.

Run Prime95 alone, or along with a GPU stress test like Furmark or Unigine Heaven, and those are way higher loads than you will see for most gaming. If you have a game that loads the G751 even more, than also monitor for Thermal Throttling then too.

None of the temps I have seen by anyone on the G751 have been too high, even before updating to the 204 BIOS, the temps were higher, but not so high as to be concerned.

After watching G750 temps for more than a year, and now the G751 temps, there hasn't been a report of a temp on the G751 that is of concern, they are all well below the thermal throttling point :)

I got my JY few dayz ago and running Archeage at max settings. Tomorrow i'll try Far Cry 4 (free game, thank Nvidia) then we'll see about what this laptop is made of.

comparing to my g750jm (BSOD,slow rate transfer) this laptop works just fine but i still have one problem: 0 bass with the subwoofer

I just played 30hours of World of Warcraft straight and here is my MAX temperatures for the entire gaming session:

GPU 75c
CPU 78c

This is still with VSync on!

You won't benefit from more than 60fps anyway (unless you have it plugged into another screen) so you might as well enable VSync, this will reduce the workload on the GPU/CPU.

And make sure you have updated to the lastest BIOS - I was hitting a lot higher temperatures before I did this.

I haven't had the chance to test 25mans or even 10mans.. But 30hours of nonstop farming should still give you an indication of how it's performing :)

I didn't experience any problems with the fans doing this, only a small squirk from the CPU fan the last few hours I was gaming.

So.. VSync and BIOS worked for me - It might work for you as well.

Ok ty for the tip, i don't have AudioWizard anymore and it sounds like better now.
If i want to instal it back where can i dl it?

About performance, I'm actually playing Far Cry 4 with ultra settings with 50-75fps so that's pretty good.

Bad news is i have 3 differents issue with this laptop:

1) Sound issue: No bass at all

2) Wi-Fi issue: my wi-fi is so damn slow but everything's fine when i plug RJ45 cable. But This is a laptop!! How am i supposed to do when i have to go out?

Edit: FIXED!! Check here: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?53836-Intel-7260AC-terrible-wireless-speeds-anyone-else-having-problems

Edit n2: It looks like i still have problem with my internet, i enabled WMM and i really gets improvements with UPLAY (I was trying to DL a game) but I still have slow wireless speed with lot of DL ( JDownloader, Nvidia site, Youtube)

3) Left USB ports (the closer one to me): im disconnected every 10sec. The others ones run just normally.

I paid this laptop 1650E and i can't even have a normal Wi-fi? C'mon..
My first ROG was the G750JM, after 4 mouths i just sold it cuz of those ****** BSOD, i decided to trust again Asus by bying a G751JY and now this?
All ROG in the world are bugged as hell??!

I've just recently bought the Asus G751 JY from Amazon. Now I've seen, that you get assasins creed unity when you buy this laptop. But how? do I get this after registration or from any site? Thanks for your help.

By the Way, after 45 min prime 95 my CPU temps were 72 C is this normal? I've read that there is a BIOS update, but when I start the Live Update he doesn't find any Updates?

Hi,
I've just recently bought the Asus G751 JY from Amazon. Now I've seen, that you get assasins creed unity when you buy this laptop. But how? do I get this after registration or from any site? Thanks for your help.

Thrall2004, historically, after the initial settling to stable operation, Asus stops updating the downloads for specific products. You won't see anything through Asus Live - but in the past people have had a BIOS/vBIOS update brick their laptop - so most of us take those 2 facts and decided to uninstall Asus Live update. Also Splendid, Power4Gear, Asus Gaming Mouse, AsusDVD, Cyberlink2Go, Asus Vibe - there may be more by now...

The way to get new updates, outside of the BIOS - Asus is good about posting new BIOS updates - keep looking for those in your download area., the way to get new updates is to cruise the new hardware releases. Right now it is your laptop, the G751JM/JT/JY - soon it will be the G750JY and other notebooks/laptops/motherboards with the same base components - Asus uses the same Ethernet, BT, Wifi, storage, utilities for most laptops/motherboards/etc - some utilities don't transfer between motherboard and laptop - unfortunately all the cool tuning and monitoring software for motherboards doesn't work on the ROG laptops...anway, here is the list of location I have found - please post others - to watch for updates for the G75x's

Here is the list of places I look for updates for my G750JH; the best way to get a stable fully functioning G750/G751 is to update all the drivers / apps to the latest Windows 8.1 release.

The G750JW/JX/JH/JM/JS/JZ download areas haven't had new updates for a while, BIOS updates still happen in your model's support area, so check there from time to time.

The G750/G751/551/500/etc share the same basic hardware components; check support download areas for new hardware for newer drivers.

Asus maintains central support areas for hardware component features common to all products, those areas usually have the latest drivers after new hardware releases, sometimes there is a lag before the newer drivers show up there, so still to new product releases support downloads for the latest drivers.

Asus G751 Support / Download areas - Asus hasn't updated all the versions of these support areas, this link discusses the 3 locations were started independantly and not sync'd/updated through to the latest driver releases - check them all to be sure.

I am using Asus G751JT-CH71. I love the 17 inch ips screen. I've been using a small screen until now. This is like a new world for me.

I've been running several games with max/ultra settings. All of the games so far works very smoothly to me.
StarCraft II
FarCry 3
Dota 2
Archeage
Civilization V
The fps seems to not reduce even using ShadowPlay while gaming.
Cooling system is awesome so even running a gpu miner for bitcoins, the laptop seems to not get really hot (Just a little bit warm).
I will be testing Watch_Dogs and several versions of Assassin's Creed when I get to finish FarCry 3 :)

D_Pain, glad to hear you are enjoying your new G751JT :)

You can put some numbers to those temperatures with a program like hwinfo64 Sensors Only mode. That way you don't need to feel the outside of the chassis to tell if it is getting warm - the chassis insulates well, so to get accurate heat readings you really need a monitoring program that reads the temperature probe sensors.

hwinfo64 - download (I use the Beta, but the Installer is only available with the current version)
http://www.hwinfo.com/download.php

Set Sensors Only mode at start
43785

Resize and scroll to get readings of interest viewable
43786

hwinfo also has a hardware summary instead of Sensors Only
43787

And a full Inventory View
43788

When a laptop is new, or I am testing new settings, I run hwinfo64 from boot to shutdown. If I need to know how often a temperature is reached I turn on logging to a file, by clicking the Green + button (logging start) on the bottom of the hwinfo viewing pane.

Have fun :)

This isn't a benchmark or anything, but I made a BF4 video with my JT playing on ultra settings. I like how ShadowPlay doesn't cause any lag while recording. I remember back in the old days recording with FRAPS, and the massive lag it caused.

Hi y'all ! First of all, I wanna say that I am happy to be part of a fresh generation of RoG laptop owners :).
I just bought a G751JY-T7015D model this week (after waiting for more than 1 month to make his appearance :)) ). I saw this thread 2 days ago when I was searching for problems related to this model and today I managed to get some free time and run some benchmarks for it. Unfortunately I also have the problem with the sound but the machine feels good until now.

The specs are:
i7-4710HQ Stock Clocks
GTX980M 4GB Stock Clocks
HDD 1TB HGST 7200rpm + 1 WD Black 500GB 7200rpm (No Raid)
8GB DDR3 Single Channel

This is the cheapest model that came with GTX980M (chosen budget wise).

Conditions of benchmarks:
1) Used only presets from benchmark softwares (From the Free Versions)
2) Room temperature 23 Celsius, room humidity 30%
3) All other programs closed
4) Power plan: Power4Gear High Performance
5) Nvidia Settings: Performance preset
6) Stock clocks (No overclock).

The benchmarks that I used today are in the following order (see pics below) :
1) 3DMark06,
2) 3DMark Vantage,
3) 3D Mark11,
4) 3D Mark (2 pics)
4) Unigine Valley Basic Preset, Unigine Valley ExtremeHD Preset (3pics)
5) Unigine Heaven Basic Preset, Unigine Heaven Extreme Preset, (2pics)
6) CrystalDiskMark.
7) PCMark08 (3 pics)
8) ASUS RealBench

!!For the Unigine benchmarks I have experienced some stutters and this kinda worries me. These feel like the stutters that I had on my last G75VW@GTX670M when I was gaming. I don't know if it is only for the Unigine Benchmarks or it also happens in games. I will install a game tomorrow to check it out. Anybody experienced the same in Unigine ?

Tomorrow I will add the PCMark8 results, along with the ASUS RealBench results. Although, the numbers won't be very impressive without an SSD, they should be a good point of reference for this series considering that it just can't be worse than this:)).

EDIT: So, today I managed to finish 3 tests on PCMark08 (Home/Work/Creative) and an ASUS RealBench test. (See the screenshots at the end). I used the same methodology as yesterday with only the Nvidia Settings changed to my own MaxQuality 3D configuration (but I don't know if this affected the results).

Vovastr, that's a great READ/WRITE result, is that a PCIE x4 256GB or 512GB? Which make/model is the SSD? CrystalDiskInfo gives lots of details, perhaps post a screen shot of that? Did you do any tuning or configuration to get that speed, or is that stock out of the box result. The reason I ask is that there have been others posting the results from the Samsung XP941 256GB/512GB and their results weren't this good.

Nice OC results @Vovastr . But did you also increased the voltage to get a stable 6200Mhz frequency ? Because I also tried to go for 6000Mhz on stock voltage and it resulted in hundreds of errors in OCCT... It seems that 5700-5800 would be the sweetspot on my stock voltage.

Just got my G751JY about a week ago. Its a great machine. Here are my benchmark results with 20C ambient temperature.

Idle: 39C
3d Mark Demo Firestrike: 8503 (82C CPU, 70C GPU)
3d Mark Demo Sky Diver: 21434 (82C CPU, 70C GPU)
3d Mark Demo Cloud Gate: 22205 (83C CPU, 69C GPU)
3d Mark 11 Demo: P10914 (81C CPU)
Real Bench Benchmark: 56514 (82C CPU)
Real Bench Stress Test 60 min: Peak 85C CPU, Avg 82C CPU

Shadow of Mordor on Ultra w/o Vsync: Peak 85C, 73C GPU

In terms of performance, I think I'm right on target. And I count myself lucky that I'm not having any problems with the keyboard or screen. But I'm not super happy with the temps, especially after seeing NitroX's results which were consistently 5C lower. I'm thinking mine didn't get the best pasting job.

I know 85C is well below the unsafe/throttling temps but I don't live somewhere with 20C ambient temps, more like 30C avg. And I wouldn't want it running 5-10C hotter at load. Anyone using their new G751 in a warmer climate? Anyone have any idea how much hotter I should expect it to run? Or will the fans just work harder?

NitroX

@ExpatGamer: Yea... the last one I had was getting better temps but I exchanged it due to some minor bleeding of the screen and other aesthetical issues. Now I get the same temps as you and to be honest I'm a little bit worried. I mean, it's winter over here, and I have only 23-24C in my room. I'm thinking that on summer it will hit the 90C(or above) very easily when I'm gaming. That's not quite the cooling that I've expected for this beast of a machine. And I see that the only cooling issue is with the CPU. The GPU, which consumes more power, actually runs cooler. Where's the logic over here O_o?! Also, on my last model, the temps were more stable. On idle it was like 40-41-42. Now, the temps go mad and change from 40-to 46. It also gets some crazy peaks when I open an application (from 45 to 54C when opening Chrome...).

I've also reached higher temps when running 3D mark (81CPU/76GPU vs 76CPU/72GPU) and on AC Unity (85C vs 82C). It's not quite a reason to worry about, but in comparison with my i7-3610QM from the G75 which had a TDP of 45w, this i7-4710HQ Haswell which draws 47W and is supposed to me more power efficient, runs damn hotter! One problem might actually be the fact that the fans have a low RPM even in high load. I remember very well that the CPU fan was running at 3500-3600RPM when I was gaming on the G75, and it only reached a max temp of 80C. On the G751 the temps reach 85C and the fan only goes to 2900RPM. I don't really care for the silence part when I'm gaming, so they could offer us a driver which increased the RPM a little bit.

All in all, these temps are not unusual for gaming rigs with these specs. Though, when I decided to go for a 4kg machine, I was expecting to get way better cooling (just like on the G75).

I've turned on my laptop and in Windows I've noticed message like: There is no battery. I was like, WTF ?
So, I restarted and then second led doesn't stop blinking.

Any Idea ?

ATM laptop is working on battery, when I plug AC i'm not getting errors.

Before that happened, I tried to boot BackTrack 5 R3 (without success, it freezes).
After few attempts I've quit trying and I booted normally W8.1.

Hey, I just got the laptop today. It is really nice and gets good frames.

I have noticed really bad input lag and serious ghosting. Do you guys notice this? If so, should I get a new laptop?

If you guys do not get these effects, should I send it back for a new one or is there something that I can do to fix it?

Please reply,

I'm really ****in tired of ASUS and their products.
I bought T300 and after 9days touch screen stopped working. My Laptop is on RMA and it's been like 30 days already, ASUS didn't send a new screen !!! Still waiting...

And now my G751. I got it 24.11. and today month later seems like battery has issues !!!
Funny part is, I paid and ordered extended warranty which ASUS still didn't send me.

So, seems like this unit is going to RMA to, again like 2 months without my laptop. WTF now ?!!?!
I'm ****in tired of ASUS RMA, really ! Sorry for my language, but this is really pissing me off.

OK, I'm angry because now i'm getting error like: AC plugged but not charging, 20% battery. And that is it... ?!?!?

The first one I had was running 4-5c lower, but also more equal (there is 2-5c difference on the CPU cores)

Hi, Have you tried removing the plug on the adapter wait till the light goes out then plug it again before turning the power of the latop? from what i have known the g751 power brik has a safety feature. to avoid sudden surge of electricity, this happen whenever you unplug the cable from the laptop without unpluging the adapter on the wall..

our battery is integrated and this machine requires more power, our power brick outputs 200+watts unlike other power bricks max output is 180w only, i think this is one of the reason why the power brick has this safety feature, cutting the power going through thw laptop, causing it to not charging, that is what i know base on the research i done before purchasing this product. ;)

hope this help fix the issue.. chill a little bit its christmas :)

I got good news regarding my battery. I found out that BackTrack driver confused my battery chip. So I drained my battery down and then I plug-in AC and after it charged to full my battery works fine again. Thanks God, I was really scared I'll be like 45 days without my laptop... Because RMA in Croatia is really shame for ASUS.

Ok, so taking into consideration the high CPU temps most of the G751 owners get, I decided to follow hmscotts undervolting method to lower the temps a little bit. The results are positive and the temps really went lower. About 5-6C lower to be more precise.

How I did the undervolting (UV) ?
Hmscott's Method:
1) Download Intel Extreme Tunning Utility -> Install -> Restart -> And check out all the things that show on the program before starting to change anything(just to familiarize a bit). There aren't many to see, but for this UV you will only change 2 slides from all options available.
2) From all settings you should find the "Dynamic CPU voltage offset" and "Processor cache voltage offset" and as a first step you should make a small negative increment of -20mv for both "Dynamic" and "Cache".
3) Apply and save your profile. Don't worry if the PC restarts or BSODs because if the voltage gets to low this may happen. Also, the Intel XTU application is smart and won't load the last profile you used if a system error occurs.
4) Next step, before going even lower with the voltage you need to stress test the current settings. Intel XTU has it's own stress test integrated as you can see it on the left side of the window. Just run it for 5-10 mins and this should tell you if the current values offer a stable system.
5) After checking if the system is stable, then you can make further negative increments going from -20mv on both slides, to -40mv on both slides.
6) Apply and save your profile.
7) Make the stress test again to see if the new values are stable. Note!: If the system restarts/BSODs during the stress test, don't worry because the system will restart with the default values.
8) If the stress test does fail, you should lower the negative increment from -20mv to -10mv. For example: if you went from -40mv to -60mv and the system restarted then you should try to go from -40mv to -50mv and see if that value is stable.
9) After an error, set the new value (example -50mv instead of -60mv) and stress test for 10-15 mins.
10) If the last values you have found are stable during the stress test, then the next step for verifying if the Undervolting is stable is to leave your system in idle mode for a couple of hours and if it doesn't restart/BSODs then you've got a stable undervolt (UV)

Check it these screenshots for more details:
447094471044711

My personal experience with UV?

As for my own personal experience, the undervolting process went flawless from 0mv to -90mv (Maximum on Dynamic CPU Offset) and -100mv (Maximum on Processor Cache Offset). I didn't get no errors, restart or BSOD so this may also apply for other G751 owners. The temperature differences as I stated before are about 5-6C in applications that stress the CPU and about 2-3C lower for idle. I didn't do a heavy in-game testing to see what improvement is there but I will do it today.

For now, here you are an example of 3dMark temps, before and after. PS: I don't know why I get these differences in 3DMark because it has happened before.. I think it's something from the Nvidia Control Panel or it's just that random with the current drivers.
Before: 44712
After: 44713

Hi,

My experience with G751JT was a very short one.
Changeing the boot order in BIOS crashed the laptop. No video. And laptop stops after few seconds.
I was lucky that this happened in the showroom - I request to pick it up from there so I can return it asap in case of any problem.
So, now I'm the unhappy owner of a ROG laptop. :(

Did you keep the laptop after it failed? Did you go back into the BIOS and change the boot order back to the original settings to fix the problem?

If so it should be running fine.

If you are unhappy with the laptop, what is the problem?, you should still be able to return it :)

Thanks for the response @wildtiger.

Another thing that I noticed was, when I plugged in the HDMI cable to connect the laptop to an external monitor, the male end of the cable that goes into the laptop's HDMI was not completely sticking in. I mean, I had to change 4 HDMI cables until I finally found one that completely went in. Until then, there was no detection in the external monitor.

Note that the 4 HDMI cables that didn't work on my ASUS, worked fine on other laptops :(

I understand that the HDMI port in the laptop is a little deep inside, but is this a common thing to notice on all ASUS laptops?

Well, here is my review with this laptop.
I got the g751JY with 256 ssd,4710hq,8gb ram and 980m.
The positive:
good performance with a good cooling system.
3dmark firestrike: 8534 score
After one hour of playing battlefield 4 the cpu only reached 81 celsius and the gpu 73. The processor was running on 3400Mhz and vynsc was disabled in game. (this is the maximum after updating to bios 205,they reduced the maximum clock by 100mhz which is sad).
The bad side:
The sound is freaking bad. My 8 years old acer notebook provides better sound than this crap. I didnt only notice the bad imbalanced sound with the subwoofer. It makes a really strange popping sound before and after every audio playback, even if i just adjust the volume. This is the most noticable with headset on and it's very annoying. i uninstalled the realtek driver and the popping noise gone. Btw this isnt a solution cause you cant run the stereo and subwoofer at the same time and also only 2 jacks will work out of the 3.
The ssd got only 95% condition by hdd sentinel and 92% by crystal disk info. I realised it too late so i cant really do anything about it,no replacement option cause it 1 month old :(. The ssd got 400 times more launch/stop period than the hdd. It seems like asus put and already used ssd in my laptop. I want to cut their neck for doing this.
And also i got a problem with booting. Sometimes it boots properly for 2 days and sometimes it boots with a black screen with backlight. I need to power off the laptop and turn it on again in order to get the screen working. Dunno that it is a hardware or software issue.

So in overall, this is a really bad laptop for this price. it has got so many issues as you can see on this forum. This is a gaming laptop afterall,so most users will be satisfied with that, except the sound. Everyone can realise it that it got really poor audio. My gf who doesnt even know anything about computers said that it sounds like a fart which is coming from a box.
-Made for gamers. HAHA,then asus thinks that gamers doesnt even have ears. I know that no one wants magic from built in speakers. Ofc,i use headset for gaming but the popping noise drives me crazy with the realtek drivers. If anyone has a fix for it please tell me.

Edit: I forgot about the coil whine. The 980m makes some really strange noise in some games. Especially in older games with higher fps. It doesnt that bad and i mostly ignore it but it's there. If i mute the audio i can hear the rat racing voice from the gpu when it is on load.

I got my first G751JY one day after Christmas. I had random BSOD's and tried to update nvidia drivers with clean install and everything but the BSOD's kept happening randomly. I sent it back. Now I received a new one and it work flawlessly. I didn't do any benchmarks but I can play Shadow of Mordor and AC Unity with everything in Ultra.

My machine:

Asus G751JY
Processor: i7-4860HQ
RAM: 32GB (4x8GB) DDR3L 1600MHz
Storage: 512GB SSD PCIEx4 M.2 + 1TB HDD 7200RPM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX980M 4GB GDDR5

I use it mainly for video editing and writing, I just have to say that I love this machine but I also have the same clicking sound when closing or opening anything with sound.... what can I do?

Try updating the sound drivers. I had the same popping in music/videos/games, uninstalled and took the most recent version of the driver, now sound is ok. Still not decent for gaming, but at least it works without popping.

A quick addendum to all the reviews...

I am quite thrilled with my G751JY-DH72X. The performance is outstanding, the build quality has been amazing, and for the most part I am completely pleased.

The one downside I have seen in my build has been related to nVidia and potentially ASUS software interactions causing rendering performance issues. I will note, however, that every system, component, card, notebook, etc has its fair share of issues. No manufacturer is immune to this. What really shines is the ROG community which has been stellar in tracking down issues and providing soutions, workarounds, and troubleshooting regimens.

Please do not fault the telephone and e-mail technical support staff! They have a very limited toolset at their disposal to assist with issues! These forums are invaluable when it comes to tapping official and community knowledge sources prior to performing base troubleshooting steps for an RMA.

Has this high-end laptop purchase gone off without a single hitch? No. Does *any* similar purchase perform perfectly? No, not even Apple or other highly engineered brands. Would I buy this very same laptop again with what I know now about potential issues and idiosyncrasies with the G751platform? ABSOLUTELY. The price-to-performance of ASUS's performance notebook products is - to me - the best on the market today.

Even with the minor issues I've experienced, after buying this notebook I have built a great fondness for the ASUS brand and the community surrounding their products. So much so that I'm evaluating ASUS products first for my new purchases and generally choosing them over many other brands. So far, I've bought their 144hz monitors and home networking products as well.

That's my two cents. Is it perfect? No. Is anything in this world perfect? No. Is it as close to perfect as you can get for its price range? You better believe it.

I for one am particularly amazed at how quiet and cool it runs. My formers Dell XPS M1730, even at max fan speed forced, could not compete with it.

Let alone the performance...

So yeah, I also enjoy my G751 JT :)

I think I also have the sound issue as it mostly comes from the left side. Doesn't really bother me since I don't really play with the volume up. Which driver would you guys recommend for the wireless card?

I got mine from the ASUS site, http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/ASUS_ROG_G751JM/HelpDesk_Download/
I know, JM and all, but besides the GPU, all components should be identical.

My puzzling question is... how do you know Asus Turbomaster is present or not?

I bought a G751JY-DH71 from NewEgg.com as an open box (saved me around $455 over brand new). It has been fantastic. The perfect gaming laptop - in all ways except size and weight - but that I can live with due to performance. I did a full write up at this URL, along with a ton of benchmarks (3DMark, 3DMark 11, Unigine Heaven, Unigine Valley):

I'm very happy with this laptop. It's very well designed...and fits my needs perfectly.

TO: hmscott, and also to Asus Forum Representative,

I am having issues with my ASUS ROG G751JY-DH71 that I got as a Christmas present last December 2014. This was purchased 30 Nov 2014 and received 4 Dec 2014. When I opened it up and turned the power on, it started quickly. I was impressed right away. However when I did a warm boot after the initial power on, I got a black screen and it stayed there and not doing anything. It took me three to four times powering it on before I got it to start again properly. Also I noticed that when it goes to sleep, and I wake it up, I tried to right click my mouse on an Icon on my desktop or just right click my mouse anywhere on my desktop, the featured menu will show up in a flash then will turn into black. I checked the reviews on this model and both were known issues since last year. What are the fix for these issues? Again, I am liking this G751JY-DH71 because it is doing what it is supposed to do. except for those issues mentioned above. Another one I noticed is I do not have a software for the optical device. I e-mailed your support team and asked them what are the Specs for the model G751JY-DH71 that I currently have. I was given a list for what ASUS software/drivers comes with it and ASUSDVD was on the list. I checked the Control Panel/ Programs Installed and did not see ASUSDVD. I checked the C:\ drive and nothing there neither. I emailed back your support team and informed that I do not see it in my computer. I was told to download the ASUSDVD. I went to the site and downloaded the ASUSDVD and installed it on my computer. However when the installation was completed, I tried to click the icon for it on the desktop and it was asking for activation code. Again, I e-mailed your support team asking for activation code. I got a reply that ASUSDVD is not compatible with the model I have (G751JY-DH71). What is the real story on this?
Another problem I have is every now and then when the computer sleeps, after I woke the computer everytime I right click on an icon on my desktop or just right click anywhere on my desktop the featured menu will show up in a flash then
will turn into black. What are the fix for these issues?
Thank you for your time in reading
this. Need help on these issues.

Hi hmscott:
I have had my G751JT for two weeks now and it`s a power house.
It does get hot however because the fan speeds cpu and gpu are set too conservatively.
I don`t mind a little louder fan noise but I DO mind heat.
It would sure be helpful of Asus if they would provide a user setting of fan speed relative to temps.
I have seen this issue posted before and I wondering if you have any ideas how I could procede from here.
Best Regards from Vancouver Island, Canada.

Hi Guys, I am happy to help, but I don't work for Asus :)

I would suggest your suggestions / requests go through the Asus channels where they can help you best.

https://vip.asus.com <== create a login, register your laptop, and file a Technical Inquiry with the problems/questions/suggestions stated clearly, and if you have screen shots or photo's then zip them up and Attach the zipfile to the Technical Inquiry.

Asus also has a Feedback channel, and several other support avenues:
http://support.asus.com/contactus.aspx

These forums are owner to owner support for helping each other out and reporting info helpful to all. Asus has a couple of people here that liason with RMA support, but your suggestions, problems, complaints will fall on deaf ears as Asus only accepts such things through the above official channels.

Real hardware problems, enhancement requests, and general reporting of problems you need fixed should get submitted there first, and then if you want to report as a new post to track it with comments / assistance from us owners here, that is how we can help.

ilander, you can make the request, but Asus has in the past only occasionally made changes to fan curves to laptop BIOS's. It is a good idea, but they only have so many engineers and once a product goes for release they are likely already being moved to new development projects. The fan curves are designed to keep Asus quieter than the competiton yet keep the temperatures safe for long term operation. All Asus fan curves follow the same philosophy. Asus added a Full Speed Fan option to the Asus Tweak Tool for Laptops - but it only works officially on the G750JM/JS/JZ - and it won't work on the G751JY/JT. You really don't need to worry about temps as long as they are in the normal reported range, read others reports and do the benchmark/stress test runs and see if your temps are about the same. You can always return it or RMA it for temperature issues, but Asus is going to want to see Thermal Throttling demonstrated to accept it for repair - at least they have in the past.

pongster, I just made a post listing options for Blu-ray/DVD/avi file play back here:
http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?56938-Asus-Rog-r750js-Bluray-fix&p=471303&viewfull=1#post471303

Start new threads for new requests / postings, neither of your posts were reporting Benchmark results / temps, which is the topic of this thread.

You guys didn't PM me, but I do get PM requests for help from time to time, and I always ask them to make a new post and let all of the forum members support them. PM help gets lost, Thread help is there for people to find and read and benefit from for years to come.

Pongzter, happy to help, and it's not a waste of time for me, but if you want to resolve power up issues you need to talk with Asus, we can't help fix that :)

Please do open a new thread so we can track your progress, don't post the case #, but you can PM the case # to cl-albert in case problems come up.

When you get it back from RMA, be sure and check all your drivers/app for updates, here is a list of places to find the newest drivers.

A new video driver might solve the redraw issue, it sounds like a typical rendering glitch, I wouldn't worry about that.

And, don't forget to run some benchmarks, monitoring temperatures, and report back to this thread with the details :)

So, since 2 days ago when I found out about the G-Sync Modded drivers I have been testing a bit this new driver 347.25.

So until now I've managed to get the following results with this driver:

1) Maximum stock score of: 8594 Point in 3D Mark Firestrike. I know, there are people over here that passed 8600pts at default settings. Dunno why but from 6 runs I never passed 8594 (and this was the first score -_- ). Nevermind, it's still very good. Link: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/5741879

2) Maximum Valid score with OC was 9646 with +135Mhz on core and 6100Mhz on Memory. Link: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/5742777

3) Maximum Invalid score with OC was 9731 with +135 Mhz on core and 6200Mhz Memory. Link: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/5742893 . At this run the demo was shut down because of the instability of the memory. The other tests ran perfectly but with lots of artifacts.

All tests were done with the CPU settings: x36, x35, x34, x34 and x36 Cache with -80mv Negative Voltage on Core, -80mv Negative Offset on Cache and 28 Secs Turbo Boost Time, set with Intel XTU .

Btw, these 347.25 G-Sync modded drivers do allow you to overclock the GPU.

3D Mark Firestrike Screenshots (temps, scores, clocks) :
1) Stock Clocks 8594:
46107

2) Valid Score OC 9646 :
46108

3) Invalid Score OC 9731 :
46109

Ok, so, it seems that this baby has some serious processing power. I know that it was already demonstrated but it feels great when I get these kind of results myself.
I do wonder though how did other people with MSI GT72 also with Gtx980m and i7-4710 managed to get past 10000 Points in FireStrike with only a 6000Mhz Memory. They could have better drivers for the CPU and get better physx and combined tests ?

For these results I did encounter many artifacts. Setting the memory speed to 6200Mhz is totally unstable. Artifacts started popping up like Christmas lights. And although the result from 6100Mhz was Valid, there were also some artifacts during that test. I just made these benchmarks for the fun part and to see how far I could go with the score for the G751JY .

PS: During these tests I've also tested the G-Sync with 3D Mark (well in fact I forgot to turn it off during the first 2 tests :D) and I've noticed a big difference in the fluidity of the scenes. The results may be effected but this works as a very good test to prove that the G-Sync actually does its work ( If you want further proof or if you didn't notice while playing games). This works even better than that pendulum test where you have to focus like hell...

EDIT: Hmm, I've just checked the best results for Gtx980M on 3D Mark site and I've seen that the best score for GTx980m and i7-4710 is 9902Points. But I've seen something strange at their clocks. I've seen core clocks of 1288Mhz. Now, how could that be possible ? The result is this one: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/3836215 .
And the best score for Asus G751JY with i7-4710Hq is 9807 (almost nailed the son of a *** holy spirit!!). http://www.3dmark.com/fs/3827378

Does anyone know how to make Turbo Boost go to full 1260Mhz when benchmarking ? Because even though I'm overcloking, the maximum clock that I get is 1,173 Mhz Core. This means that the turbo doesn't even trigger.

Later EDIT: See here why I am so impressed of this Gtx980M :D. With an OC Gtx980M we reach to the performances of a stock Gtx970m (9456 Points) equipped with a i5-4690K. Now this is impressive ! Aaand we also have G-Sync :))

Off-topic but didn't want to create one just for that: when i bought my G751JT, there was at that moment no G751JT option to register my laptop on Asus website. So i register it as the closest one: G751JM.
Do you think it can cause some issues now with a potential RMA/support help?

BigDRim, the serial number should have set it right. Usually entering the serial number causes all the blanks to fill in correctly...

You can send a followup email as a Technical Inquiry, to let Asus know - ask them to correctly classify your serial number as a G751JY.

Please let us know what Asus says :)

I had the same problem like chararusan , after i change the boot order the laptop crashed , the laptop stops after 2 seconds .So, no chance to enter in Bios again . I talk with the guy from service , and he said this model has a bios bug , and many laptops return in service with the same problem. So I got a new laptop, the same model, and i wait for a new bios driver :). Anybody else knows this problem ?

Hello. I can not decide which video card to choose. 970 m or 980 m. I'm afraid that if I choose 970 m not enough. Many doubting which video card to choose. GTX 970 m or GTX 980m. Overall I'm not a hard gamer, I just want to enjoy a quality game. But on the other hand want to have resources to play at least 2-3 years. Thank you. And if you choose 970 meters if I can play The Witcher Wild Hunt a maximum resolution. I apologize if I posted in the wrong section.

If you need fluent gaming, the 980m is the most future-proof choice.
However, I don't think anyone, myself included, which have the 970m, could complain. This card is even more powerful than the 880M, which was supposed to be the best last year :)

If you have the money then I would go for the Gtx980M as it is has a little bit more juice and it is more future proof due to the 4GB memory. If you are looking for best bang for the buck then the Gtx970M stands better at price/value. If you want more in-depth advice you could also tell us what is your budget and what do you plan to do with the laptop on the future.

Thank you for your answers. I am fully aware that 980 is better than 970. I do not want to give each year more than $ 2,000 for a new laptop. This is the biggest reason why I embarrass my choice. I have my doubts that if I take g751 and 970 video card that I can enjoy a quality game at least 2-3 years. If my fears were true it would have to wait a little longer to collect money for a laptop with 980 video card. In the future will use the laptop to play games. Now wait to come The Witcher Wild Hunt. Otherwise, for now I play Diablo 3 and World of tanks.I love playing games like Crysis and Battlefield.
I just read this article - http://www.pcmarket.com.au/blog/asus-rog-g751jy-really-1300-better-asus-rog-g751jt.
What really makes me question myself really 30% more power is worth the money. I think that tend towards ASUS g751jt

Hello, i have had this problem with my laptop . I sent to RMA. It was display fault.

Otherwise, for now I play Diablo 3 and World of tanks.
For this games, which I also play, you'll have no problems as long as you don't absolutely want max shadows and shaders (these are the performance killers).

I run all games on V-sync and have not had problems with any of them on my JT, at 1920x1080 res :) They run beautifully.

No one knows exactly how demanding next-gen games will be, so if you are worried about that, the 980m is your best bet for the next 2-3 years.

BigDRim, the serial number should have set it right. Usually entering the serial number causes all the blanks to fill in correctly...

You can send a followup email as a Technical Inquiry, to let Asus know - ask them to correctly classify your serial number as a G751JY.

Please let us know what Asus says :)

They fix it, thanks!

Got my G751JY, proud to say this is my first ASUS and also proud to join the helpful Republic of Gamers. I received the G751JY model from Newegg about 2 days ago and some of the keys on my keyboard were not working. I played around with it to try to fix it (excluding opening anything just in case it voids my warranty.) Tried factory reset, rebooting, uninstalling driver/installing/then reboot, updating drivers. The only time some of the keys started working was when I took out the AC adapter that connects to the laptop itself so I'm guessing it's a hardware problem. Already RMA'd it, but unfortunately I won't see the likes of it for another 10 days or so since I'll have to send it from Maryland back to California. When it gets back I'll post my benchmarks as well as temps for some really populated games in different areas.

Just got mine today and after about 3rd in of installing programs etc the screen flickered n then I got a green gaze and ghosting effect. I thought it was the graphics driver so u installed that along with all the other graphics driver stuff, rebooted and no effect. I don't know whether this I a hardware problem or something else likey a setting that I've missed. also tried windows display settings but nothing seems to help. Any ideas? how do I reset the machine to factory settings

You have lots of threads in here to search for solutions. The main solutions are : Underclocking, Undervolting and using NotebookFanControl (NBFC) to change the CPU fan profile. Just search for these and you'll find enough information.

Medicius, G750's don't seem to need help from Cooling Pads, although simply raising up the chassis off the desktop seems to help all by itself.

G751's don't have the same sealed cooling design, it might help with them, please run some tests and let us know how this cooling pad works.

Please try some benchmark runs, like prime95 small fft + furmark 15 minute burnin, and monitor with hwinfo64 Sensors Only Mode, without the cooling pad, and with the cooling pad with and without fan on. That will tell you how much the cooling pad is helping.

Please post results here :)

@hmscott, I owned cooling pad before and I (re)use it for three reason only:
1. it raises laptop keyboard and display in a comfy position (personal experience),
2. I can hide cables underneath it,
3. and it does no harm. ;)
If there will be some extra time, I will test it. Otherwise, I completely trust my laptop (ASUS) that it would do a good cooling job just by it self. :)
May I add, I own G751JY for a week now and I haven`t found any trouble yet, non hardware and non software.
It works fantastic!

I remember when cooling pads actually helped, was expecting the G750 to benefit from one, but nope. That is why I am interested in how the G751 is affected by a good cooling pad, and your's looks great :)

Hello everyone!

Jumped in to the ROG wagon and got my G751JY today. I deleted all bloatware and updated all the drivers and flashed a new bios.
Began benchmarking by running Furmark and Prime95 and my machine reached the following max temperatures after 15 minutes: CPU 96 celsius and GPU 74 celsius. CPU temperature is the most worrying in my mind. The cpu model is i7-4710hq.
What do you people think, should I try RMA lottery for a bit cooler machine?

Thanks!

@Mokoko123 - Wall of text incoming.

When I have got my G751JY, I have been getting pretty similar temps (96/96/94/94 on CPU, 78C on GPU). Obviously I was stressed cause I expected them to be lower(I am talking about CPU). Talked with asus customer support and they told me to send the laptop for "diagnostics".

So I RMA-ed it and after a week and half I got it back with statement that the notebook is fine, they did 10hours stress test in which the CPU reached 96C which is under 100C maximum operational temperature limit, so they do not see any problem with the notebook. So technically you should not worry about these temps. However, I couldnt get used to see permanent 90-95C shown on MSI afterburner during gaming, so had to find some workaround which would help reducing the temperatures a bit.

So first I did was to undervolt the CPU by -80mv/-80mV. This helped me with reducing temps at idle more than during full load but still it was better than nothing. After that I reduced cpu multipliers by 3x to 33x/32x/32x/31x what really helped to reduce temps. Didnt see any significant fps drop in games after doing this (maybe 1-3fps in far cry 3 , cpu load is there at 70%, in other high end games I play its like 25-45% ), although I will raise it by 100mhz maybe when GTA5/Witcher 3 comes out, depending on how CPU intensive they will be.

Both undervolting/underclocking you can do in Intel XTU program, you can find tutorial about how to it somewhere on this forum as well.

Even after doing all this I was not satisfied with my temps, so there came NitroX who just finished making his custom CPU fan profile which, when I tested it, helped with reducing the temps drastically. I am running the profile for a week already nonstop and did not have single issue with it, I can say that it works flawlessly so far.
You can find it there - https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?58501-Making-of-quot-Official-NotebookFanControl-G751JY-Profile-quot

Okay so at the end with all these "workarounds" I managed to reach the temps I am satisfied with.
Before I had 86-95C in Far Cry 3, now I have 75-84C peaking at 86-87C for a few seconds.
On less CPU intensive games (but still with 99% GPU load - this is important to have maximum GPU load all the time to see your correct maximum gaming temperatures) like Assassins Creed 4 Black Flag I was getting before 82-94C now I am getting 65-76C !! So ye, it is definitely worth a try.

P.S. - I just want to add that all these workarounds did not help me with combined stress tests temperatures ! But for me gaming/rendering temperatures are important not temperatures during stress tests anyway.
(I will maybe edit this post tomorrow to add screenshots of cpu temps before/after, but I am too lazy now, also sorry for my English)

Thanks Boxis for you answer. Nice to see that there's a rather active and helpful community around here.

I've done some more testing today with stress testing and gaming and decided not to do a RMA. Even if I don't like the high temperatures when testing with Prime95 and Furmark, the temperatures stay below the T-junction and hwinfo64 shows me that cpu clock speed doesn't get below 2,5GHz, so technically speaking there is no problem with temperatures.

I played around with Intel XTU and the undervolting potential is of course nice, but if the clock multipliers are not lowered also the CPU fills the thermal headroom by running higher clock speeds. That of course is free performance which is always nice. I suspect there's some stability testing to be done during the upcoming weekend.

NBFC turned out to be a really welcome software. When playing Max Payne 3 the GPU max stayed below 70 degrees celcius and CPUmax below 80 degrees celcius. below 80 degrees celcius which I consider more than acceptable. Sure it's not the most demanding title available but for now it'll do. Noise level increase is rather small so nothing but a big thumbs up for it from me.

Happy gaming

Hi everyone !
I have a G751JY-T7052H (i7 4710HQ, 16 GB, 980M) since 1 month today and I come on this forum to write my first review.
This rig is a beast in term of design, performance, price etc. My bigger games, Dying Light and BF4, are running easily on it. Graphics performances are awesome.

I have one question for you, about my temps. I tried a lot of settings about v-sync and here is what I get while playing :

With v-sync off in games settings, I get the most FPS it can blow. For example, I'm very rarely below 60fps in Dying Light and rarely below 70fps in BF4.
Dying Light is often at 65+ and BF4 at 75-80+. But with v-sync off, I get the hottest temps. In Dying Light GPU is about 73-75C MAX and CPU is about 83-85C MAX (peaks). I Think average CPU is about 80-82C but I'll do more test with HWiNFO64 to get the exact min/max/average.
In BF4 it's a little bit higher. With v-sync off, my GPU grows to 75-76C, almost never see 77 I think. CPU go between 85-87 (some peak at 89 but only saw this once). Average CPU should be around 85C I think.
I did some tests with v-sync on adaptive to save some C and in Dying Light CPU is about 81-82C max and in BF4 maybe 83-85C, not sure at 100%. More tests to come this evening to confirm the difference between v-sync off and adaptive.

What do you suggest after reading this ? Should I RMA my rig ? Should I only play with adaptive to save some C ? v-sync off temps are acceptable ?

Thanks for your advices.
Regards.

NB : excuse my poor English... (French)

Well, in my posts I was talking all the time about CPU temps because GPU temps are not really a problem in our laptops in like 99% cases :D . I was just saying that when GPU is going at max speed (having 98% load) that it affects CPU temps significantly, thats why some of us did not have good CPU temps when under load. Check your CPU temps please if you can without vsync.

@Akik82 - You have good temps, nothing to worry about. But if you want them to be even lower you can check https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?58501-Making-of-quot-Official-NotebookFanControl-G751JY-Profile-quot . This should help you reduce temps quite a lot.

Thanks Boxis for answer. If others like hmscott can confirm this it would be nice :)
I just played BF4 in multiplayers 64 ppl for about 40 min and here are the values from HWiNFO64 :

Game's settings : ULTRA, 1080p, v-sync off. 80+fps almost all the time.

CPU (i7 4710HQ) max : 87C
CPU average right after leaving the game : 77C
GPU (980M) max : 77C
CPU TDP max : 45W
Current CPU speed : 3292Mhz for all cores all the time

Here are idle temps :
CPU : 37C
GPU : ~41C

No frequency drop during play for CPU nor GPU, no stutter while playing. I guess I didn't get Thermal Throttle thing. Right ?

Thx for your help guys.

Other test on Dying Light for about 1h20.
Game's settings : 1080p, v-sync off, High all settings, view distance 50% (8/16) and ON everywhere else.

CPU (i7 4710HQ) max : 86C
CPU average right after leaving the game : 79C
GPU (980M) max : 76C
CPU TDP max : 41.2W
Current CPU speed : 3292Mhz for all cores all the time

No particular stutter, didn't see any drop in fps or frequency for both CPU & GPU. I guess again no thermal throttle. Hopefully !

Can I state that my temps are "normal" and there is no problem with my rig ? No need to RMA or something else ?

Regards.

@Akik82 : As I said, you should download MSI Afterburner and monitor your temps while gaming with the On Screen Display option. That way you will get to know the real Average temp and you can also monitor if the CPU throttles or not.

By the way, the CPU won't throttle until the core temp reaches 95C, so you are fine and dandy. Though, check what I have said about Triple Buffering in the other thread. Also, you should consider a CPU Undervolt since it won't change the performance in any way. Also, I recommend using the "Balanced" profile instead of the "High performance" one, because the "High Performance" keeps your CPU clocks at max all the time, even when you don't need the power. The "Balanced" profile is better because it will let your CPU cooldown and raise the frequency just when it needs too. Don't worry about any performance drops in games because there won't be any.

Akik82

I just checked out, I'm not in performance mode but in "normal utilization" in power management menu. I guess it's what you call "Balanced".
I'm already using MSI Afterburner and yes the average temps are a little bit lower than the peak temps (~86-87C with v sync off).
Can you link the latest version of D3DOverrider please ? Thx !

EDIT : I tested again BF4 at max settings v-sync off with MSI Afterburner + RTSS on-screen and here are the values :

CPU max : 87C (like HWiNFO64)
GPU max : 76C
CPU average : I saw 1 peak to 87C then most of the time it was fluctuating between 83 and 85C
GPU average : almost all the time at 75C

Seems to be good temps no ? I really love v-sync off smoothness like on a desktop :)
Will it hurt my laptop later ? Hope not...

The temperatures are fine. No reason to worry about. Just keep an eye on them while using V-Sync off. Though, for the love of God, please try using V-Sync On + Triple Buffering. It hurts to see that you are making poor choices without having a strong info to rely on.

If you are still concerned about the high temps, I have presented you all possible solutions in the other thread.

Offtopic: In BF4/CS:GO and so in every online game you should always have turned vsync off so you get as fluent gameplay as possible. When you are turning mouse fast in CS:GO to aim as fast as possible when you have vsync on, your mouse movement is incredibly limited by that 60/75fps cap (you are getting input lag) and you see the difference when you left it at 200-300. Same thing happens in every online game that needs fast reactions.

True. I just tested BF4 again with v-sync on and triple buffering and yeah, it's better than no triple buffer for framerate but I got a big input lag in my opinion. With v-sync off it's much more reactive gameplay. More fluent yes.

Here temps with v-sync on + triple buffer :

CPU max : 86C (only 1C less than yesterday with v-sync off)
GPU max : 75C (1-2C less)
CPU average : about 81-83C instead of 83-85
GPU average : 73-74C instead of 75.

Well, it's about 1-2C less on average results. I'm not sure that it worth the input lag. Plus, triple buffer doesn't work on Dying Light :(

Akik82/Boxis, this is why I suggest de-tuning the CPU core 3/4 down a couple of clicks for multiplier, down from 34x to 30x or lower for such CPU intensive games instead of limiting FPS through vsync or other game setting.

Instead of de-tuning the CPU, you can limit the cores used, for CS:GO specifically, I suggested a trick I use for limiting cores used via Task Manager => Details => Set Affinity on the Steam.exe parent processes before starting the game. Effectively reducing cores used from 8 to 4 - essentially disabling the Hyper-threaded cores - similar to turning off Hyper-threading if we had that option in our laptop BIOS.

Described here:

G750JM high temperature on CS:GO
https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?50742-G750JM-high-temperature-on-CS-GO&p=429501&viewfull=1#post429501

This may help the G751 more than the G750 due to the heatpipe coupling between the CPU/GPU - it could help for all games that heavily load the CPU / GPU as well as those that heavily load the CPU only.

It may not even effect FPS that much in GPU performance weighted games, and the Hyperthreaded cores add way more heat than the added performance may justify under heavy load, so it's a win-win.

If you do try this out please come back and let us know how it works for you :)

Hi there !
I found D3DOverrider and tried it. Let me know if I'm using it in the wrong way : I only use the "triple buffering" toggle and set v-sync ON in the game's settings. Is that correct ?
I tried BF4 and it seems to work correctly. No tearing, no stutters, maybe a little bit input lag but I have to test it more.
For Dying Light, triple buffering works with D3DO but I get a lot of stutters, even with 70+ fps displayed on RTSS. I tried the option Framerate Limit in RTSS and putted it to 75 (my screen runs at 75Hz by default) and it seems to be very smooth now. Maybe a little input lag but I'll give it a try again. For solo-play it doesn't bother me anyway.

Akik82
03-16-2015, 11:32 AM
Yosh !
Final test is over I guess. For online reactive games like BF4 and CSGO I'll stay with v-sync OFF to avoid input lag and get max smoothness.
For solo games like Dying Light I use v-sync ON + force triple buffering in D3DOverrider and maybe Framerate Limit to 60 to get max smoothness. V-sync ON + triple buffering is very nice in this game. I have the same FPS as v-sync OFF but no tearing. A little input lag of course but fine for solo. Sometimes framerate drop from 75 (screen is 75Hz by default) to 55~ and I get a little stutter. To solve this I plan to use Framerate Limit to 60.
Voil ! Thanks for your help and now I'll just enjoy the beast :)
Bisous :o

Just did a session of Dying Light with v-sync ON + triple buffering + 60 fps limit in RTSS and I have to say it's just perfect. For a solo game I mean, for online FPS I'll stay with sync off ;)

Temps during DL gameplay with the 3 parameters mentioned :

Little post to tell you all that the latest Nvidia Geforce 347.88 is out and the G751 screen is now correctly to 60Hz by default. No more need to limit the framerate to 60 with RTSS :)

Akik82, interesting, most people want to know how to set up am Nvidia Control Panel Custom Resolution to run the display faster, not slower :)

I think the IPS screen in the G751 can do 100hz stable. I used to run my Chi Mei Displays at 100hz. My AUO runs stable at 85hz. The IPS running at 85hz would likely be ok if 100hz isn't clean.

Why do you want to run at 60hz?

Because I have to use tricks like framerate limit to get 60 fps. I don't want to get 75+. For heavy games like Dying Light or Witcher 3 should be enough ^^

Hey guys, here's my video of overclocking G751JT (GTX 970M), that I would like to share. Also, PLEASE SHARE & SUBSCRIBE...I will be benchmarking a number of latest games in next few days. Enjoy!! :)

Per my experience, G751 is an amazing machine, and can withstand max GPU overclocking (of course after tweaking to stable memory overclocking). To be precise, increase of GPU clock by +135MHz, and Memory clock of about 500MHz, gave me a pretty stable base data.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bv3bNYfClKE

I have got a separate video (which is still in progress ), that shows before/after overclocking numbers of 'Unigine Heaven' with max settings. Will post it as soon as it's available.

PLEASE NOTE: This overclocking video is only based on my experience, on my laptop. All I recommend is not to overclock if your machine is doing just fine, or if you are not sure what you are doing. Do some research, and try at your own risk!

I think I have read almost every post on this thread and I am sooo confused right now X.x
v-sync on, v-sync off, 100hz huh? So I'm guessing just installing the drivers and downloading the games is not enough it seems.
I'm not really sure from where to start on changing stuff for my gaming after installing Windows and all the drivers.
Yes I am a newb in all this, was used to have everything set up and just download my games.. -.-

Install MSI Afterburner + D3D0verrider to start nice ! Then do what you read about these apps. It's a good start I think.

My G751jy only displays the pnp monitor with 60Hz. How can I do all that you people say to put the monitor to more than 60hz? I didn't understand. Can anyone give a simple guide? Where to change? What are the best options?

i test it only via Nvidia Control Panel there u can set it to 100Hz for example...

the another one is with modded Nvidia driver... that activate the G-Sync on ure Screen...
but i havnt try it...coz for me useless...

And when you set the display to 100hz on the nvidia cotrol panel it displays correctly? Any problem? Is this a good thing to have from 60hz to 100hz? like for example to gaming...i have a benq 60hz monitor...this 100hz setup will be better for me?

u can set it without problems to 100hz...for me is useless coz if 60 or 100 i play all games with good fps 6 no lags! ;)

See tagline, my G751JY definitely has the 256G M.2 SSD and for those that don't have one let me tell you it makes such a difference to load times. As far as I am aware this is the top of the line in the ASUS range - it was a replacement for my G75VX which was stolen.

Even though my laptop was taken has a lot of data on it that ill never get back - it's not like the thief will have anything but a millstone around his neck, it was shutdown at the time and the system was fully password protected and locked down through the razoo so its not like they'll manage to sell it, I am still hoping that they will get caught because then not only have I got my replacement I can grab my data too.

But I am SOOOO HAPPY with this beast its slick, incredibly fast and so quiet .

My only change would be for the keyboard to be a white backlight with the WASD keys in red.

my g751jy is extremely fast. not only did i get 32g of 1866mhz ddr3 memory, but i have removed the blueray writer, and put in another ssd. so i have the pcie 256g m.2 ssd in bay one, an evo 840 1tb ssd in bay two, and a crucial mx100 500g ssd in the caddie where the blueray use to be. a lightning fast combination, really. almost 2 tb of storage which is blistering fast, and with less heat in the box. i have oc my cpu and gpu, and keep it all cool by under-volting, and using a custom fan config. even in stress tests and benchmarks my rig stays well under 80c.
i learned early about the corrective drivers for the realtek audio, so my audio sound is very nice now; a lot more clear, and with the right tweaking, much better bass. i have pushed the ips panels refresh rate up to 100hz, which makes it so much smoother. i think this is the best looking laptop that i have seen anywhere. and every time i pull it out, people say, "wow!" the build is excellent, and you can't complain at all about all of the connection abilities. the one thing that really bothers me is how prone the wrist rests are to fingerprints and oils from your fingers. i really, really hate that. so i find myself cleaning it all the time. yes, that is the one thing i really hate about this rig. other than that, it is a great laptop, which runs very well. especially if you take the time to find proper drivers, and don't use the one's off of asus's site, if you can help it.

Nice AQUASTEVAE, I used a 6" SATA 3 extension cable connected to SATA 3 Port 1 and slipped it under to connect to my 1TB Samsung 850 Pro
SSD in port 2 so that I get the 6GB/s speed instead of Port 2's limited SATA 2. The SSD could not be secured/screwed into the caddy but the caddy is secured & sitting over 850 Pro. Did you do anything similar with your 840 evo or is simply running SATA 2 on Port 2? What custom fan configuration are you using, please explain. Thanks

Here are my results... I do have overclocks (minimal ones really, eVGA Precision +135/+240 and all Intel XTU settings maxed), and 100Hz OC'd display, but I don't think those things would account for the higher performance than I'm seeing most people get? I can't complain, but what gives?

Using the latest drivers I could find for everything (many newer than ASUS provides on the support site), the latest (207) bios, and the Witcher 3 NVIDIA drivers that came out this week. I also happen to have particularly low temps, even though I'm OC'd and measured them after extended stress testing with Prime95 and FurMark - 80 C max on GPU, and 77 C max for CPU.

Also, I get 1175 MB/s read speed on the Samsung mSATA 256GB SSD that came with this! That's twice as much as my Samsung 1TB 840 EVO that I just recently put in my desktop PC! PCIe mSATA SSDs are THE ****!!! Attached screenshot is my 3Dmark scores (the default "primary tests"), those are what are higher than most people are posting.

also i read about many sound problems with this laptop in the past and drivers that supposedly fixed most of the cases. I wonder if distortions on newer drivers are normal, when going above 75% of max volume,
i have it and i think it's rather annoying, i'm using latest drivers possible for my version (gtx965m,128gb ssd+1tb 7200rpm hdd)

Hi Guys !
I don't know if I'm in the right place but I would like to share my experience about Witcher 3 and overclocking.
As you know, Witcher 3 is a very demanding game so to get 60fps I managed to overclock my GPU. With MSI Afterburner I've put core clock to +135Mhz (the max actually) and the memory clock to +250 to start since I don't know which the max is. After that I found that my temps in game din't change at all. GPU is about 76C and Cou peak about 83-84C. I found that my usual temps are the same without any OC so it's great.
Here are my questions :
1: Are these temps OK for an OC 980M ?
2: Is it stable values like that ? Without touching any voltage ?
3: Is it safe to OC a GPU like this ? i know that G751 has great cooling system but maybe I did wrong...

Thanks for replies guys, I'm kinda scared about playing with OC on a laptop.

Hey Guys!
I am new to this forum, but I believe that you will accept me kindly in your ROG community!
I have g751jy rig with 256gb sad drive memory and 24gb of ram, graphics card is 980m.
I am playing Witcher 3.
Previously, I watched one dudes benchmark of Witcher 3 ultra settings with temps and stuff, and then i started to record my own temps.
His temps were 63-71C on his GPU and around 75-80 on CPU.
What I get when I play Witcher 3 on GeForce experience recommended settings are: 75-84C gpu and stable 79-81 on all cpu cores!
I am really worried with the temps!
Got my bios updated to 207 through in-Bios flash utility (updated through pressing F2 and working directly with bios).
Got latest nvidia drivers. No overcloking. Fps is always around 40-60 in-game (Witcher 3). I decided not to mess with screen refresh rate and it is 60Hz.Also, I am playing GTA v and temps in there with also geforce rec. settings my GPU goes up to 73-74C.
Can anybody give me an advice?
Thanks for your time.

CloudGate - 21877

Are those normal scores? Or they are less than average scores? Noticed that my Icestorm score is significantly less than from those guys who ran a benchmark in the end of 2014... Still can't compare up to date benchs with anybody!
Thanks, guys! Waiting for anybody to post theirs...

I have a G751JT-CH71 with 512 GB Samsung 850 Pro SSD. Never had thermal throttling problem and idle temps are 35-38 (using HWinfo). But two months ago i started playing CS:GO (but never checked the temps during gameplay) and last week i noticed that CPU is thermal throttling after more than 35mins of gameplay (not all cores but just one core). It reaches 90 degrees and the game starts rubberbanding (i move forward ingame and end up in the same spot again). I tried creating same stress by playing witcher 3, assassins creed unity and bF 4 thinking i can get some high temps but nope highest i got was 84 after 8 hours of gameplay. Does anyone have the same problem?

vempatyappu this is not caused by CPU but by our WLAN card. It used to happen to me only in CS:GO as well.
I have tryed many fixes for this but only one managed to actually help me. You can try it by yourself if you want.

This fix disables auto-scan for available networks which our wireless card is doing pretty often and makes terrible lag spikes in games when doing so.

1. Open Registry Editor (Windows 8/8.1, right click where Start button was, click Run, type regedit. Windows 7, click Start, click Run, type regedit)

2. Head to 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System\ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Class \ {4d36e972-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} [Be sure to expand the 4d36e.... folder]

3. Inside will be a number of folders named 0000, 0001, 0002, etc. Look through all these folders until you get one that says Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 in the registry.

4. Once the device has been found, search for a value called ScanWhenAssociated.

5. If you see this value, set it to 0 on hexadecimal. If you don't see the value, click edit from the top, select new, and click DWORD (32-bit) value. Rename this value to ScanWhenAssociated (exactly as shown). Make sure this value is set to 0 on hexadecimal.

6. Restart the computer. This is important. The changes won't take effect unless you do.

Sadly I cannot open regedit - I have a G751JT with factory installed windows 8.1. For some reason I cant open regedit
Tried every solution i can find, current situation is:
Have a file named regedit.exe in C drive but it wont run the process even after i click it
tried opening it directly, using cmd with administrator privileges and new task from task manager and even booted in safe mode but to no avail. still no regedit. If it helps i'm using Bitdefender for which i didn't find anything about stopping the regedit.exe from running.

Try runing in CMD with admin privileges "sfc /scannow" - wait for it to complete- it can take 30-60 min.
This will scan for any incompatibility with basic windows structure - and should fix them, if it can.

Plus - if you think your user has been compromised - enter CMD with admin privileges and type "net user administrator /active:yes".
This will allows you, after sign-out, to log into administrator account.

I can suggest also to run a malware scan using free malwarebyte anti-malware (https://www.malwarebytes.org/).

Plus - for your sake - according to this extensive test from this site (http://www.matousec.com/projects/proactive-security-challenge-64/results.php) - please remove "Bitdefender" and install free COMODO CIS (https://www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/free-internet-security.php)

Other then that - please PM us - that subject shouldn't be in this thread.

Thermal paste is grey and its quality seams poor since it was already dry (and awfully applied) when I replaced it after only 7 months of use.
But you are right, thermal compound is blue on the vram. They put a great quantity of this blue "slime" on every vram.
It took me an hour to clean the grey paste and the blue slime and to finally apply mx4 on the CPU+GPU and gc extrem on the VRAM.
The result is that, now, my max temps are really better: 80C CPU and 75C CPU (90 and 85 before), CPU + GPU @100%.
So yes, since I share my experience with the G751JY and the temps that I get while gaming, my comment has to be in this thread.

Hi everyone, I just received my G751JT-T7115H on Saturday so it's early days with it so far and I'm still finding my way around it and the various bits of software on it. Last night, I just done a clean install of Windows 8.1 and was impressed at how easy it was to get a hold of the drivers. I followed a guide on here for the correct order of installing the drivers and software, which worked great. I did the reinstall because the machine started locking up for no apparent reason and it was refusing to let me create a backup of the Windows installation - it kept giving me an 0x8078011e error which I couldn't find a way past. I don't suppose any of you have encountered this before?

So far, I'm very impressed with the beast. The build quality is outstanding and it's plenty quick. I got the version with the following specs:

i7-4720HQ CPU, GTX970m GPU, 16Gb RAM, 256Gb M.2 SSD, 1Tb 7200 HDD, Blu-Ray Drive

I've only done a brief bit of gaming on it before having to reinstall Windows, but was seriously impressed at how 'Alien: Isolation' was running with everything set to ultra. Will post my benchmark tests once I've had a chance to run 'em.

Looking forward to getting to know you lot, too!

Artic Silver 5 may do the trick for the CPU and the GPU but concerning the blue stuff on the Vram...Well I don't know. So, just don't replace the blue slime that is on the VRAM, you can just clean the overflow but clean all the grey paste and replace it with Artic Silver 5 (witch is grey too).

Slightly old thread but if anyone needs to know that blue slime on the Vrams is silicone thermal interface pads.
Asus uses kitagawa industries for their source at http://kgs-ind.com/products/thermal-pads-and-thermal-management/
but any similar colored pads will work and you can get the off ebay or aliexpress in mats or various sizes like here
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Blue-100mmx100mmx1mm-GPU-CPU-Heatsink-Cooling-Thermal-Conductive-Silicone-Pad-/281523853145?hash=item418c211759
The thermal paste is one of 4 different sources asus uses for bulk purchases in automation applications. I have used noctua NT-H1 on every 751 i have worked on and the color is so similar no one would notice. We have had a few units that had to RMA with noctua on them and never had any warranty issues. Just apply it well and use a rice grain as your guide. You can get noctua at newegg, amazon or anywhere else.

Not bad my 4870 gets so damn hot if i dont sit it on a pad for firestrike. ill be in the mid 90s. I really wish Asus had gone the way of msi and adopted the 5700 series for its g sync refresh.

Got my G751 JY *non g-sync asus pls* a couple of days ago with the 980M,4720HQ and 16 GB RAM + 128GB SSD and 1 TB HDD and here's my impressions.
So far I have played these games:
Dota 2 - 100+FPS nothing to report there.
League of legends - 200+ I have it locked on 144.
Mortal Kombat X - 60 FPS during fights but weird drops from time to time for a split second *not sure if game not optimised or running out of VRAM*
NBA 2K15 -120 in game 70-120 during cut scenes or while on bench.
Dirt Rally - Maxed out minimum on the benchmark was 56 but it consistently runs on 60+
Temperatures are good I think. After 1 hour of MK 10 CPU was 84C and GPU was 74.(Room temperature was around 28C).
Running windows 10 on it no problems with that I installed it right away and used a mix of win 8.1 and win 10 drivers.
Problems:
1.NVIDIA Shadowplay doesn't use my webcam no matter how I set it up.
2.A slight crackle if my speakers have been quiet and I change volume or start playing music.( not that bad)
I need to test more with high demanding games like GTA and Shadow of mordor but it's exceeding my expectations so far.
And finally three questions:
I have the screen set up at 75hz could that hurt it?
Can I and should I overclock the 980m,is it worth the temperatures and does it boost performance noticably?
Can I change the ROG Game Center button to something useful cause I don't even have it installed?

no idea about shadowplay i dont know anyone at the office that uses it but the speaker crackle was fixed with updated audio drivers for most people and you can find the info in this sticky
https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?57462-G751-Imbalanced-Sound-Problem-(internal-speakers-only)-FIX-IS-OUT!&p=527814#post527814
the screen is fine at 75 we have people in the office with the older 860m g751s that have been running at 75 since release without a problem and they are using it way more then most users.
Dont bother with an overclock the boost is negligable but you do have the thermal overhead if you want to play with it.

ASUS ROG JT Score P11635 :

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/10244565

Overclocked core clock + Memory clock to 1400 MHZ.

51465

Screen Running at 100HZ (So Far So Good! and no tearing)
Don't ask me why I did it because I couldn't get GTX980M Because only the JT Version was available where I live. and I really wanted the IPS Screen with OC I get the same performance as 980m gpu runs 45-47 on idle with load depending on the game some times 75-80 other time 80-85 - tested it for a week no problem no shutdowns no bsod and no arficats.

Would love to overclock the CPU But I don't feel that its safe and I think it will sound like an overkill for no thing. I would at least need to see more people doing it before I decide.

I am new to the forum (yeah I breezed through the rules), asking mods to spare me for bumping in an old thread, I need some help (maybe guidance if I'm looking in the wrong place). I just bought a pretty much new G751JT-DH72 from a navy guy on craigslist (sweet deal haggled with him down to 950). Pretty new to pc gaming but even newer to notebook gaming, heard the new 751's were sweet and I couldn't pass up the deal. He bought it from best buy (never got the receipt there is a possibility I could retrieve it).
(**** TO THOSE WHO ARE LURKING*****)
Thank you for reading if you are with me this far and willing to help. Now to get to the point, I haven't the foggiest idea were to start as far as updates, tools, and maintenance is concerned before I start really getting into gaming. I've logged probably 24 hours on the witcher 3 but I feel like shes running a little hot. Ive run HW Monitor while playing the last 4 hours on low and the THRM temp got to 77 C....Can someone give me a little direction?

You could literally have just typed g751 temp and found 100's of results yes thats a normal temp. If i just bought a g751 from someone else the first thing i would do is clean install windows 10 assuming you already did the upgrade to have a fresh slate and install the newest drivers. The important temps are cpu and gpu. Depending opn your chip the cpu can get as high as 97 and the gpu as high as 89 and you would still be within normal. If the laptop has a few years on it you might want to open it and clean the fans and even repaste everything if your comfortable with it especially if he was deployed in a dusty area like the middle east.

Confused how this is stock when most of people with jy gets 8000-8600 scores.
How did you improve its preformence?
So you say the Ram made a difference or the SD/HD Made a difference.

Never seen such a large Jump only through Ram and HDD Upgrade. Interesting..

That seems to be the G-Syn Version comes with the 4870 Processor that could be the reason. Interesting results.

Fire strike does not test just the GPU. But Also Tests the CPU (Physics test) and it also affects phsx test (there is a reason why people overclock their desktop processors you know).

interestingly enough your Asus ROG JY G syn version is 30% more powerfull than the original JY version. +1500-2000 Scores O.O

My Theory That GTX980M Is bottlenecked by 4710 processor (I heard that) and 4870 Processor Seems to allow its powers to show and spread. 4870 Seems to pack with the new G SYN Version.

But Still I pretty Much Doubt Its the processor that caused the increase.

According to Notebook Check The one with the 4870 Processor (JYT7 should score 8300+

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-G751JY-T7009H-Notebook-Review.133178.0.html

Seems to be heat sink and the Ram and the New SDD.
Any way amazing scores None the less :)

Not really a problem you are not missing any thing since db3 is extremely limited rare model from the looks of it.
GTX980M is a strong card by default.

Your not missing anything significant with the g752. Im only interested in the nvme and ddr4 support myself but most people wont feel a difference between the ahci and nvme of the sm951 or a fps difference in ddr3 and ddr4. The 4720 you have is actually better for temperature than the 4870. You probably have 10 or more degrees of headroom then i do.

Just received my new Asus ROG G751jy in the mail. Whenever audio is played either if its a chime, youtube, a PC game the speaker underneath where your left wrist rest when typing, makes a pop sound every 2 seconds until the the application running the audio is closed. example will be when I close out of youtube. the audio itself works fine and I just need to find a solution to disable that bottom speaker. I've updated to the windows 10. still no change. installed the new realtek high definition audio file provided by ASUS and still nothing has changed. the only way I can stop it is when I right click over the speaker icon on the bottom right corner of my screen < select playback devices < right click speakers < select disable. the popping sound stops but so does all the audio so that's not a fix. So I know its within the speakers. if anyone could help I would be grateful.

also other things I've tried was adjusts the levels in the speaker properties all to 0 and the audio stops but the popping still continues.

Didn't want to start a new thread just for this, hope somebody can suggest a solution here. Got mine recently, very happy with it so far, but one minor gripe - those plastic thingies on which the notebook resides are uneven, so everytime you place your hands on the keyboard, the left side of the notebook touches the desk, and it's annoying as hell.

A buddy of mine has a JL model, which has rubber thingies and it's completely stable, mine's a JT model and has plastic thingies and the left one is a bit off and unbalanced. What to do? (English is not my first language, so I don't know the actual word for the "thingies" - holders maybe?)

hi guys,

so i've got 4860HQ, 8GB RAM, 980M 4GB,

rog g751jy laptop.

when i play games normally my temperatures run around 70~75ish under load with cpu and gpu less i think.
Now the problem is next:

when i bought laptop (almost a year ago) - it's temperatures weren't going over 70 at all. It used bios 202 and all i had was windows 8.1 and drivers all installed from asus webpage.

Today's situation is somewhat worse - a lot worse. I've upgraded to windows 10 (clean install) - installed all the drivers for windows 10 that were available, and then i tried skyrim + enb. I've watched with aidaExtreme temperatures and fan speed - fan speed got stuck around cca 3200 and when running with fully enb'd skyrim temperature went to OVER 90, around 96 it stopped i think!!
96!!! HELLO!? ASUS!? ANYONE?!?!?

After that i've downloaded bios 210 and flashed through bios, hoping for things to get better. Well now things got even worse, fans didn't go over 3100!

I've downloaded then notebook fancontrol program and used G751jy profile to run fans at 100%. They went up to 3300 or 3400 and temperatures ofcourse reduced to somewhere close to 80, which is a lot better.

Now i'm going to do some more Skyrim modding and let it use more scripts and texture mods, to burden it even more, to see what happens with fans / temperatures.

Anyway i hope bios 211 fixes FAN problems. Also, could it be DRIVER PROBLEMS?

And now for the 2nd problem - when i check my memory in aida it seems to run on 782MHZ (1564 MHz) <- WTF? it was around 1600 before bios / windows update, but now it's 20 mhz less. why? what the hell is going on asus?

IS my laptop ready for selling? Should i sell it and get G752? I expected much and i was happy for some time, but this is really annoying...

P.S. i'm trying to keep my room clean and table clean where i keep my pc, i sometimes blow inside the fans (once a month when pc is off) to dust off, maybe i should check termal paste and do something more about the dust? is it possible that too much dust got in in 13 months of usage?

First off do not double post things one thread was fine.
https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?52467-Got-your-new-G751JY-G751JT-G751JM-Post-your-review-temps-benchmark-results!&p=551529#post551529
https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?79010-Memory-and-temperature-problems-(G751JY)&p=551555#post551555

Secondly there is a search bar you could have used to answer your questions . 96 is normal for a 4860 and 4870 it doesnt mean your thermal paste is dried up or your full of dust. You probably didnt push it as hard before, you have to realize a game is not a benchmark with repeatable temps. If you wanted to be accurate you would have tested it in the exact same ambient temp under the exact same conditions. People have had new 4860s and 4870s run that hot at first purchase in multiple machines not just the asus g751. If you want to repaste you might gain a few degrees and a notebook cooler might net you a few more. You can also run it on a cooler with the bottom cover off. Honestly anything under 100 is nothing to worry about. I have worked on maybe 15 4860s that all ran that hot for much longer then your probably gaming. Dust it out with air and open if you feel comfortable doing so for a better cleaning but i wouldn't jump the gun and buy a new laptop.

I got my G751JY (128GB m.2 boot/1TBHDD) with 980M video card a little over a month ago and I'm loving it. I am grateful to everyone here who mentioned this as a more than solid choice over the G752 with 980M. The latter is what I really wanted, but the cost to performance ratio made it clear that the G751 was best for my budget.

I'm truly pleased with the game performance. Games that were already pushing my poor 6-year-old 15-inch MSI GX640 (with 1GB ATI 5850 video card and mid-range 15 processor) to its knees are humming right along with this system. More than the game performance I am floored at how quiet and absolutely cool this system runs even after playing intensive games.

My only major issue so far was getting GeForce drivers to install both through GeForce Experience and direct install. It kept failing to install and update this evening and I went mad trying to sort it out. Turns out it was a Comodo Firewall issue. I eventually had to just uninstall Comodo altogether and the drivers updated perfectly :)

All in all, this was totally worth the wait to purchase. I even got my coworker to purchase one last week (same model) and he seems to be enjoying it, too!

I just got a new issue with my less then 2 years old laptop.
It is a shame for Asus I reckon.
So the case is, my battery is dead again.
It is the second time, first one was after 9 month (warranty for a battery is only for 1 year)
It is my working laptop, so I was very gentle with it, moreover it is also my second ROG family laptop.
I never had any problems with my first G74SX, thats why I bought this one.
So till now I have already changed a battery one time a screen once, now it is in a service again for about 5 days, at least.
And I having a big problems with my project because of its deadline.
So, dear ASUS it is my last laptop with your beautiful logo. I am very disappointed by wasting my money on a low quality product.

Thats my review and benchmark.
