Just a head up. For anybody has Samsung SSD EVO 840 and EVO mSATA 840, there's a new firmware update and utility to fix the performance-killing bug.

See this link (http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/minisite/SSD/uk/html/support/downloads.html) and scroll down for Samsung SSD 840 EVO Performance Restoration Software Flash the SSD and then shutdown, turn the pc on and wait for the program to finish. Versions for Linux and Mac coming at end of the month.

EDIT: Read this further from bit-tech. (http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2014/10/22/samsung-840-evo-fix/1)

Hi coyi1895 and thanks for the information. Which is news to me btw. I must admit my system seemed to be performing ok, but what to compare it with.
I suppose some read/write benchmarks to compare with when I update.
Anyhow thanks for the heads up.

Anytime. I've been having problems with my SSD EVO 840 1TB for the last few months. Occasionally froze after booting into desktop, and the applications and shutdown seemed sluggish. I must say after running the tool, everything is sprightly.

Your link to that article leads to a 502 bad Gateway page.
The article from "bit-tech" is broken.

I've been kind of lucky with this, I really haven't noticed any sluggish behavior from my regular 840 Evo… * knocks on wood *
This is good to know though, just in case I do start to notice anything acting sluggish.

Thank you!

Thanks for flagging that up. It's working yesterday and some of their articles are throwing up '502 Bad Gateway'. In the article, it stated the problems start to occur about a month.

Must say that my drive does seem a bit snappier since that. I had noticed a bit of a drag on the system, but had put it down to the godawful MSI board I was using before.
