I wonder if i can upgrade my G750JZ in the future to a 980M from the JY. If not i think i will sell my JZ and buy JY, i like the design of g750 more then the one on g751.
Maybe it will have a better price then G751.

The card isn't soldered to the motherboard, it has a slot and it can come out.

The G750JW can be upgraded to have a 770m if you can find the card that's custom made by Asus.

The G750JZ however.. I am not sure how different the 880m and the 980m shapes are in the laptop, though I have a good feeling they won't fit.

Check it out more, mihaimoga, though your biggest obstacle I think is getting your hands on the 980m that's shaped for your actual laptop.. then the second biggest obstacle is applying the paste to all 38 components properly.

Even then, the motherboard might not be able to properly provide for it, or just won't be compatible. Power supply might come into question, too.

mihaimoga, sorry, I was out the door and didn't read the link...redid the post :)

OMG!! A new G750 Without Optimus?!!

And, 8GB VRAM 980m!!

And 17.3" Auto Full HD (1920x1200) !! I don't see if it is IPS, but it is *1200 vertical instead of 1080* more editing space.... yeah!

And,it looks like it is thinner than the JZ/JH, it doesn't have the double fan vent stack in the back, just the single stack. I guess the 980m runs so much cooler they don't need the additional vent exhaust.

The Gallery doesn't have a view of the bottom, I can't tell if the battery is removable...

So... When and How much? :)

Wait a sec... I'm a bit confused... isn't it the official ASUS website? it states G750JY with 980m graphic card and 8GB VRAM... is it true? If yes, do we know when they'll release it? Did I miss something? o_o

Wow, I didn't notice the link either. A G750JY with a 980m. That's amazing. I might not bother with the G751 then..

I wonder what it's form factor is and if it can be purchased separately. Might be able to hand down my 770m to a JM user if it will fit in a G750JX.

If not well, new laptop. Woohoo.

Now the question remains, does it have the full copper fin sinks and is the screen an IPS?

Also, Scott that price from Romania looks like around 2600 USD. Not too bad.

And the dimensions on the page say "(W x H x D):410 x 50 - 18 x 318 mm" and that "50" being 5cm is the same as my JX, so.. unless they copied the stats off another notebook and made loose changes.. then, you might be right. The G750JY will be the low profile model which will be awesome.

...and it comes with Free-DOS.

maybe need to add the cost of windows 'something' to that then
i suppose it has Optimess also :(

I was laughing at that, free DOS! ;D Wew!

Not sure yet Gazz, we'll have to find out eventually. I have a good feeling it'll have Optimus though.. but, maybe Asus might turn it off.. don't know. :c

FreeDOS is a popular option in that region.

Optimus isn't mentioned anywhere so far... I am hoping it won't be Optimus'd :)

I wonder if anything will bottleneck in the model.. unless it's just the shell that's the G750.. but all the components are up to date like IPS screen, motherboard and so on.

I think yesterday I saw on a website/store that it should be available in this early December... I am wondering the reason of this choice of making a G750 version with the new 9xx GPUs... maybe it's because some users said the G751 look is "less professional", maybe because of the G751 keyboard color that, from what I read, isn't really appreciated... I don't know what to think, I just hope they will make cheaper versions (with 970m) because, honestly, I like the G750 look more than the 751... maybe it will even have less % of issues out of the box? :p

Of course now the point is to get real infos about the specs... I could be wrong but maybe the screen is the "same old".. I could be wrong on this but from what I read people didn't appreciate the new IPS screen not being 120Hz... was the "old" 750 screen 120Hz?

IPS screen (who cares about 120Hz?!) and no hissy amp = dream machine, shut up and take my money etc etc.

Make it happen.

Is that laptop out yet? I really hope it will have IPS screen as g751 has which I saw recently and it was just awesome.

I hope it will have an IPS screen cause that laptop is just the perfection IF it handle the heat correctly, which I expect because it did with optimus+880M, that card is an OVEN !

Isnt the 765M soldered unlike the 770/780M ?

Hello.
Two days ago, founding a nice promo offer in a retail shop, I bought a ROG model G750JY-T4020P and I cannot find many advices regarding this particular model.
It seems someone else bought it initially and returned it because I found some downloaded stuff from internet. Also when I try to register my product it says the S/N is already registered. I did a windows recovery and set it up again but not sure if it's enough...
Anyhow to be sure there are no viruses left behind (ones that even a antivirus program cannot find yet) I was thinking to format my RAID 0 (2x 256GB SSD) and do a clean install of windows. This is tricky because I don't have an original win 8.1 pro kit yet and I was wondering:
1. In case I format and partition again only the OS partition (C:) + the primary one (F:), will the ROG recovery partition be deleted as well ?
2. Is there a safe way to merge the 2 partitions -OS partition (C:) + primary one (F:)- in order not to affect the Recovery partition in any way ?
You can find attached a print screen with my disk management info - disk 1 is the RAID 0 partition (2x 256 GB SSD).

I also have a question regarding another possible problem - yesterday I was playing continuous SC2 for 6-7 hours having graphics on Extreme + Ultra without any problems but at one point the game started to move in frames. When I decreased the graphics details to high (no extreme and no ultra) it moved well again. Could it be because the video got overheated and at that point was unable to face extreme and ultra details ?
Your help would be highly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
Tavi
