View Full Version : URGENT: USB 3.0 Boost destroyed my drivers

Hi, very urgent. As the title says, I installed Ai Suite with USB 3.0 only, and it's essentially bricked my desktop. At first, it disabled usage of several ports, then after un-installing it and trying to remove the drivers, it disabled all ports, effectively disallowing me to interact with my computer. Re-installing the OS isn't an option, so what can I do? I can access the HDD via a different computer.

I attempted to repair it via the installation disk, but it claims, "This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair." All USB ports are also disabled here. Luckily, I had a PS/2 keyboard around. Or not luckily, as it doesn't seem to matter at this point.

I'll have to take legal action if this can't be fixed.

Can you try disabling xHCI in the BIOS? Basically set to disable USB 3.0 and use USB 2.0?

Through an extremely convoluted process that I wouldn't be able to post, I managed to get USB 2.0 ports working and got my keyboard and mouse working. All my 3.0 ports are still disabled though. I've gone through the registry, disabled Asus Hub filters, removed AsMedia USB 3.0 drivers, and removed everything explicitly related to Ai Suite/USB 3.0 Boost. Every time I plug something into a 3.0 port, Windows Solutions window pops up and links me to the AsMedia driver download, although I've installed/uninstalled them several times, doesn't seem to make a difference. Where should I go from here?

What shows up in Device manager for USB controllers? Can you post an image, and if there is any USB 3.0 controllers listed, show the drivers detail for it.

The 3.0 hubs that refuse to be recognized:

All other USB ports:

Physical port count: 4x2.0, 6x3.0, 2x3.0 (front/chassis' ports)

I have two devices plugged in that have additional ports as well, one with 2x2.0 and one with 2x3.0.

OK, what motherboard is this? The USB 3.0 drivers are not installed and I might be able to help if I know that.

Rampage IV Black Edition. I have the disc and have re-installed the drivers for the 3.0 ports, but it won't take.

Go to the Asus support site for your MB, download the Asmedia driver for it (under the USB tab). It should be a .rar file. Extract the folder in it to your desktop,

Go to the Other devices, right click on it and choose update driver e. Select "Browse my computer for driver software". Use the Search for driver software to navigate to the folder on your desktop and intall it from there.

Three tries, three time-outs.

Alright, for no evident reason, after the last reboot, which was somehow different to the previous ones (?), it allowed the drivers to install. The ports now appear to be working. Wow, this "software" is worse than any malware I've had.. Thanks for the help, geneo.
