View Full Version : Cooling pad recommendation for G751JT

Hi to all! Do you have a cooling pad/stand recommendation for the G751?
I read somewhere that the air flow/cooling design of this particular laptop would not really benefit from a cooling pad and then, somewhere else, that ASUS should have let more hot air flow out from the bottom.
So, given that I intend to eventually replace my ageing desktop PC with my G751JT and keep it on almost all day (for work & games), would it make any sense to buy a cooling pad or not? And if yes, do you have any recommendations?
Thank you in advance for your replies! :)

Hi to!
I have an cooling pad, but i just use it for better ergonomic
It doesnt make a big difference in temperature or noise if it runs or not and its one with a big fan....
Just buy one which lifts of the G751, so it can breathe easier

Hmm...
My previous ASUS N61Ja benefited from a cooling pad with the bottom opened because it would blow right over the GPU and CPU heatsinks.
The G751, however has a very closed design and seems to suck in air from pretty much any hole it can find and the bottom cover only exposes the memory and storage, which are simply not going to benefit from a better cooling solution.

So at best, you'd be cooling some of the plastic under the heatsinks. Consider that even with your CPU/GPU going at 80 degrees most of the keyboard is cool to the touch so the chassis won't benefit that much from a generalist cooling solution.

Also of note is that said N61Ja laptop was used almost every single day for more than 4 years, roughly at 5-6 hours a day and under gaming stress with games that the laptop was not meant to run. With an open bottom and with a cooling pad it ran HOTTER than this G751JY on its own, completely stock.

Make conclusions.

i made a little test in the past minutes
cooler was a http://www.zalman.com/eng/product/Product_Read.php?Idx=492

furmark with cooling pad (fan off) 69C
furmark with cooling pad (fan on) 69C

noise was the same...
so pls dont buy any high-end notebook cooler, the g751 dont use it ;)

Thank you all for your really informative replies!
They seem to confirm that this laptop's design hardly benefits from a cooling pad afterall...
Once again, thanks for your feedback, much appreciated!

i use deep cool m6 cooling pad it has a stylish look fit to g751 color and size.. nice big fan in the middle has 4 extra USB slot and a built in 2.1 speakers which sounds good and has a low fan noise.. (although i chance the fan to a much bigger and better blades gives more air.. i use it as docking station so the mouse, keyboard and and any USB devices i plug it on the cooler, so i only have to use 1 USB plug on the laptop. to minimize my USB sockets from being devirginized (plug/unplug) :D

It does not give a huge benefit in cooling like 1-2c only, i think.. but i like the speakers and USB ports
- i think it draws air on top not on the bottom, just a guess, cause whenever i turn my ceiling fan, temp drops 5-10c ;D

Thanks for your feedback, too, Dapogz! Using the cooling pad as a (quasi) docking station it's quite an interesting idea... ;-)

I've had various cooling pads in the past and they were effective on my first laptop, but the design of my second laptop didn't seem to work with them at all and the G751 is so efficient at cooling that sitting one on a cooling pad would seem a little pointless.

Therefore, I bought a Belkin Cushdesk which allows me to sit it on my lap while lounging on the couch/bed without the worry of the exhausts burning my legs! It's squishy on the bottom too, so nice and comfy.

What about something like this (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lavolta-Folding-Laptop-Table-Desk-Tray-Stand-Cooling-Pad-Cooler-Fan-Adjustable-/400298640241?hash=item5d33a88371)?*

* You should be able to buy online and have it posted to Greece?

Cooling pads don't work on G751's. the cooling air only comes from the keyboard and ports on the sides. A cooling pad would only cool a bit the RAM, but nothing else i've tryed with the coolmaster 19 (my brother's) and i've seen only 1C gain in temps. So not worth carrying this huge thing around. Also it takes power from your computer, an other bad point concidering the ridiculous temps gain on the g751. My brother use his coolmaster on the MSI GT72 pro and he get much better cooling.

The best thing would be to have something blow cold air on the keyboard

I use this http://www.coolermaster.com/mobile/notepal-series/notepal-u-stand/ I don't use it for the fans or cooling but so I can prop up the laptop to be more ergonomic. Works well.

Yep, this one is great, 4 differents height and seems light enough..

I don't know what's the temps on the G751JY but on the JT they're really great, do a nice CPU overclock and you can have amazing temps for a gaming laptop. My brother's GT72 Pro's CPU can get to 93-95C on full load and the GPU at 85C most of the times. That's the main reason i didn't bought one and went with the G751.

I use the u3 and so do most of my coworkers with g751s it will get between 5-7 degree drops during stress testing if you position the fans correctly.

Be careful of accidentally buying "notepal U MINI". The MINI only fits laptops up to 15 inches I think. I have the normal one and the underneath laptop rubber pads fit very well on it and are not sitting on the edges. They sit well within the dimensions of the pad. The laptop overall has very MINOR overhang on left and right side but VERY minor and it doesn't affect anything as the rubber pads fit inside. Top and bottom fit perfectly. Or should I say front and back?
