View Full Version : G751 change shadowplay key functionality with escape request?

Hi guys and gals,

Lately I've had 2 annoyances with the keyboard layout of the g751, the shadowplay button fooling my brain to think it is the escape key, and steam opening big picture instead of regular steam.

So, for the steam problem, I followed this tutorial https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?53229-Steam-key-open-desktop-mode to remap the steam key to open with desktop mode instead of bigpicture by changing the hex code from HControl.exe, and that worked great.

But I also find myself missing the escape key a lot and I know I could probably get used to it, but I figure, since we can modify the steam key, why couldn't the shadowplay key be remap-able as well... into... acting as a second escape button?

I searched for a solution, but I didn't find anything, and I know I could probably disable the key, but, if I could make it work as escape, it would be absolutely perfect.

If you have any ideas, pointers or leads that I could follow, please tell me, I'd be more than happy to investigate.
Thanks, and have a nice day.

A dirty solution, i wrote a simple program wich will send an "ESC" keystroke on execution. Copy it to "C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\ATK Package\ATK Hotkey" and rename/overwrite the old file.
Please test wich time is better.

ESC key pressed for 500ms

The difference is the time between the keystroke and the time it takes to send the actual ESC command? I tried the 100ms one and it works flawlesly, you have my thanks xemax, it does exactly what I wanted :D

Thanks and have a nice day!

The time is between ESC key pressed command and ESC key released command.

Small quirk is that it doesn't work in games, any ideas why that might be?
