View Full Version : G551JM freezes after extended periods of CSGO.

I have recently purchased an ASUS G551JM, very nice laptop for the price I got it but I have realised that it freezes completely and
becomes unresponsive to every input when playing CSGO for extended periods. A simple press on the powerbutton does nothing, folding the lid does nothing. The only possible solution is a hard shutdown by holding the powerbutton.

I have also had the same issue when the laptop was just idle once but I shrugged it off. With the reoccuring freezes now however I am worried I have gotten a DOA unit.

I have updated Windows, Nvidia drivers and I have limited the FPS in csgo to 60 just to remove any heating issues being responsible for the problem. The BIOS appears to be the latest as well so nothing to do there.

Does anyone have a solution for me or should I just return it within the 14 days you can legally return a product without much hassle in Sweden?

Best regards

Do you have the 24gb mssd in the laptop ? If so, uninstalling, deleting the ssd volume in disk management and reinstalling expresscache software did the trick. If not it might be faulty ram or hdd. I would recommend clean installing windows and trying CSGO with bare minimum drivers(chipset, audio, video, atk package) and see if it does the same.

This is what i have installed on my g551jm:

atk - http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=3&m=ATK+Package&hashedid=n%2fa Version V1.0.0037

chipset - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=20775&lang=eng&ProdId=816 + intel hd 4600 from intel's website

audio - http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=3&m=Audio&hashedid=SP89bJqCsz67CV9N - version 7409

nvidia - http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/80915/en-us

Also expresscache in case you need it - http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=3&m=ExpressCache&hashedid=n%2fa

I do have the 24 gb SSD version, I don't really like the thought of having to remove it because of it being unstable however since I truly enjoy the boot times I currently have.

Do not remove it, just reinstall it with the procedure mentioned above ( delete the volume in disk management, uninstall expresscache, reinstall the one from the link above from asus)
