Mrdrummer, there is 1 free (used to be a commercial product) Blu-ray player that works for me, Leawo 100% Free Blu-ray Player. I have used it to watch the latest Blu-ray movies out of Redbox release, so they are keeping the keys up to date. Last one was "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes"

Make sure it has access to the internet to download keys for blu-ray, and updates - currently v1.8.1.7

For DVD (File=>Open Disc) and video files I have used MPC-HC for many years (mostly as MPC without the HC), and it works great too:
http://mpc-hc.org/

There is a PotPlayer, which is new to me, but I am really liking it for playing video files, I also installed the optional audio/video codecs:
https://potplayer.daum.net/

FYI - I download the 64 bit version of all of those.

Have fun :)

Mrdrummer, I recall wrestling with this when I had an Asus laptop with a Blu-ray drive, during the Vista to Windows 7 upgrade, a very long time ago.

As I recall it wasn't a driver, but a registry fix, somehow the drive was mis-classified by Windows. You could try uninstalling via the Device Manager, then immediately reboot - with a Blu-ray disk in the drive, and hopefully Windows will add it back as the correct BD device - I also recall it was called a BDRAM drive - or some such - but it then worked.

Here is a Microsoft Fixit article that provides a tool to run.

Here are some google links for you to read and hopefully find a solution, if the above doesn't work.

Here is a sample, from MIcrosoft.

I also remember the problem where the drive would load/read Blu-ray discs but not DVD discs.
